with the accident cleared and 17 miles per hour is the top speed and now we are starting to see the traffic dissipating over the altamont pass. >> drugged at a college fraternity. uc berkeley police are investigating reports that someone has been victimized and is spreading the word ahead of the weekend when people could be vulnerable. amy hollyfield is on the campus. >> halloween weekend, kristen and should be fun matters but the administration has issued a campus-wide warning. campus police are investigating a drugging at a fraternity. they say it could involve more than one person. they are not saying which fraternity or what happened. they do think it is serious enough to issue a campus-wide warning. they are telling students to watch their drinks and do not leave them unattended at a party. they are reminding students that someone under the influence of drugs or alcohol cannot give

consent to have sex. we have just arrived on campus. it is quiet. it is still early. at the love students are sleeping and we hope to talk to a couple of them to find out what they are think hoping to watch an early bird up for exercise this morning. stay with us and we will write you another report open this in the hour. >> developing news in palo alto, haz-mat crews are trying to determine the source of an odor that caused the evacuation of a hotel overnight. several people complained of problems after breathing in the chemical smell. 12 were taken to the local hops. the garage and first floor of the hotel were evacuated. gifts above that were sheltered in place. the heating and cooling system was turned off as a precaution and officials deemed the area safe and our reporter is there with a report coming up for us

at 5:30. >> a truck driver is getting a reckless driving ticket for. russiaing into at least six parked cars in portrero hill neighborhood getting off 101 and at 18th and rhode island he was going too fast and lost control. a car he hit helped up against a home. no one was hurt. >> fake flying alert. notices are hand out in antioch claim the city is trapping feral cats but it is not true. we looked into the messages and our reporter explain why residents should be concern. >> susan traps and neuters and returns homeless cats for the humane problem if an effort to curb antioch's feral cats estimated to be in the-agreeds of thousands but this is warning of cat trappings was discovered this weak.

four lanes from marin. it is now 5:31. we have developing news a scare at a palo alto hotel. a strong chemical odor sent several to the hospital. it forced others to evacuate. janet o is at the westin palo alto. janet? >> this is a story of the fear of the unknown. haz-mat and fire crews have spent several hours trying to figure out what the chemical odor was. they have not been able to figure it out. theyered the john. they said it was safe to do so. they spent hours trying to pinpoint the source of the problem. it was first reported coming from the garage at 9:00 last night. that is when they noticed the issue. the strange odor affected 12 guests taken to the hospital to be treated for respiratory problems. one patient has been released. guests on the first floor and

garage were immediately evacuated. the air conditioning system was shut off to prevent the chemical from spreading. one of the guests evacuated share his video with us showing the fire department arriving of the responders quickly pulled all resouths to get to the root of the problem. >> we used air monitoring system s and test strips. we took readings on those. we took pictures. we were looking for labels on the capers. we could not find anything out of the ordinary. >> the fire department said initially they thought the odor was coming from pool equipment in the garage but that is ruled out as a cause and now there is a good possibility whatever it was may have just been passing through the area and dissipated in the air. they may not know what the odor was. everything is back to normal and
