>> good morning. i'm lisa argen. it's sunday, november 1st. we are going to start with a first check of the weather. so this morning we are looking at plenty of cloud cover out there. temperatures are in the 50s. live copler 7hd indicates pretty good visibility with numbers from the upper 50s in livermore, 56 in san mateo. so rain is on the way. it will be increasing slowly in the north bay. it's going to take all day to get here. by 5:00 we have rain from santa rosa to point reyes, cold showers, a chance of a thunderstorm right on through your monday morning commute. we will continue with chilly numbers as we continue with the upcoming work week, the first week of november, which will

offer up pretty cold numbers in the 30s. this morning we are following breaking news out of berkeley where police are investigating what led up to a riot that at one point included thousands of people. abc7 news we posted the picture open twitter showing a car windshield shattered on telegraph avenue near channing way in the south side neighborhood. according to berkeley side, the the up roar began around 1:20 this morning with reports of people throwing rocks or bottles at officers. people reportedly arrested three people who may be linked to several assaults. one person is hospitalized after suffering a head injury. >> there was a crash that killed two people that happened just before 3:00 a.m. at franklin canyon road and martinez ranch road. a third person is involved in the crash and did complain of pain but is not seriously hurt. we will continue to follow the

breaking stories and bring you updates on twitter. a wild chase through san antonio last night end with two cars open their sides and three suspects running electric a crash. abc7 news reporter centering joaquin takenna has more. >> a toe rush hauls away is silver sedan. three people have been rested. it ended with a crash and the suspect is on the run. >> i saw somebody run here and then the cops just all stopped here and they tackled him. and there were police guys on the ground. >> the get-away car slammed head-on into this parked red mini cooper. the silver volkswagen somehow rolled over at the same intersection. person who owned the mini cooper didn't want to go on camera but described the end of the crash. >> flipped over completely and the lady was pulling out of shock. >> officers tell us the woman in the volkswagen was not part of the chase and suffered nonlife threatening injuries. several blocks away, another crash.

a department of motor vehicle rolled over when it somehow came into contact with the get-away car. the parking control officer suffered minor injury. the cabdriver tells us the suspect car sped by him after the collision. >> it was too fast. going like really high-speed. and on the right, the wheel was locked. >> the right wheel was damaged and smoking. this all started in the sunset district with an armed robbery at a local business. >> it could have been worse with a lot of people being downtown san francisco. halloween night. a lot of people on the streets. >> police say they are happy the halloween night chase end with only minor injuries. abc7 news. >> over in oakland, a woman in charged with a crash that killed a man and seriously injured a woman. neighbors near macarthur boulevard and 106th boulevard heard a loud crash around midnight saturday morning. the driver of a speeding

convertible ran into another car, and then went airborne and landed on someone's front hahn. a 19-year-old was tossed from the convertible and killed. the woman in the other car went to the hospital. neighbors said they see drivers running red lights all the time. >> you have to be very cautious when you are in this area. very cautious. as you walk in on a car -- >> especially at night. it's really, really bad around here. >> you said you almost got hit once? >> yes, i did. actually it was yesterday around 5:00. >> the driver and passenger ran from the crash, but officers quickly found and arrested them. horrifying news out of new york. a speeding car went airborne and plowed into a group of trick-or-treaters on saturday. three people died, including a ten-year old girl. four others were injured. the youngest a three-year-old girl who is in critical condition. body parts scattered the sidewalk and some makes at first thought they were halloween props.

witnesses described a tragic scene. >> a family and kids walking behind me. all of a sudden i heard the boom and the car literally-like jumped over a parked car and. into the gate, hitting a bunch of people. >> the driver is a 53-year-old man. he's in the hospital. police still don't know what caused the crash >> four children this southern california are recovering this morning after a car crashed into a store. it happened saturday at the party city in san dimas. a 35-year-old woman lost control of her car sending it over the curb and through the glass. and a 14-year-old was airlifted to a nearby hospital. there was no update on her condition. the crash is under investigation. in colorado police are trying to figure out what float rate add man to shoot and kill three people in what witnesses industry as a shooting spree. it happened saturday morning across early blocks in downtown colorado springs. it ended when the suspect -- the

suspected gunman got into a shootout with police in front of a fast-food restaurant. officers shot and killed the man after he fired at him. abc7 news is following the investigation and will have much more coming up on "good morning america" at 7:00. back here in the bay area, san francisco's last remaining gun hop is now closed. the highbridge arms had only gunnysack he is russ left on the shelves after selling off most of its merchandise yesterday. it had been open more than six decades. the manager made the decision to close because of a new law that requires every gun sale to be recorded on camera and sent to police. supporters say that footage could be used to investigate gun crimes in the future. now to the east bay where a two-alarm fire that tore through a house is being called suspicious by the san ramon valley fire chief. fire investigators say it started around 8:30 last night on lincoln mesa avenue behind

mont air elementary school. a hoarder lives there and it was hard to get under control because of all the stuff inside. no one was hurt. happening today, ultima winds plans to shut down their turbines because they are killing birds. our media partner, the contra costa times, the company told u.s. fish and wildlife the reduction of avian impacts was the primary for discontinuing its operations. environmental groups have fought for years to bring awareness of the large number of golden eagles, rapters, burying owls and other birds killed by the turbines. at least 4500 birds are killed each year was the estimate. and also today new limits on woodburning kick in with the start of winter spare the air season. when there is an alert, bay area residents will be banned from burning wood or any fuel indoors

or outdoors. and they said be aware, we will likely see more spare the air alerts this winter. and if you burn wood you must use a device that's aps certified. it goes through the end of february. the earthquake swarm in the tri-valley is continuing. the san ramon danville area has been hit with 8 small earthquakes since the:30 last night according to the usgs. the biggest, a 3.1, hit after 11:30*. there are no reports of any injuries or damage and so far the shaking has stopped since midnight. these quakes are part of the hundreds of small tremors of that rattled the area in the past few weeks. >> we have some wet weather ahead on our way and i'll let you know about it come up next. this is a look at what is the calm before the inclement weather. we aren't going to call it a storm, just light rain. it's going to take its time getting here. that's coming up.

rains in texas have increased the death toll to six people. more bodies were found yesterday after turbulent weather created three tornadoes hitting the lope star state. crews recovered the body of an elder will i austin woman who was swept away from her home by floodwaters. they also found the body of a man who went missing after his car got stuck in rushing water. four others died on friday. new video this morning. a flooding in baton rouge, louisiana. residents say they have never seen this kind of high water before. this the second weekend in a row they have had to push cars out of the water. heavy rain has caused road closers in the area. officials say a street near louisiana state university is impassable due to the high water. chances are you are waking up a little more rested this morning after falling back with the time change overnight. daylight savings times has ended and we are back on standard

area tonight into tomorrow, no the only bringing showers but the chance of a thunderstorm and bluffry conditions as we begin the work week. temperatures this morning with the cloud cover, not bad. in fact, many numbers in the upper 50s. 59 in san francisco. 57 in oakland. we are looking at 58 morgan hill. half moon bay low 50s. from the sutro tower camera looks pretty good out here. we will enjoy the clouds to start. that will be a switch. and temperatures will be slow to warm today. 57 livermore with 58 in napa. finally from our exploratorium camera, we will talk about the clouds throughout much of the day. then the showers arrive in the north bay 3:00, 4:00, spreading south throughout the entire bay area and another push of energy monday had keep the showers going. but that's when we will see more instability and the chance of a thunderstorm. with the northwest winds, it is going to feel down right cold and winter like. high pressure sits offshore and it will protect us for the morning hours.

then here comes the front. it will take really through the overnight hours for this to pass on through. then it gets reinvigorated on monday when the low passes overhead. let's take you hour by hour. notice the cloud cover from 11:00 through noontime. it should be raining from point reyes into santa rosa. scattered showers 5:00. then we go through the east bay, the peninsula, through the overnight hours. notice we have a bit of a lull and then here comes more showers into your monday morning. some afternoon sunshine could fuel a thunderstorm. rainfall amounts from about a tenth to a quarter of an inch. higher elevations could see a little more than that. and we still have a winter storm watch above 7,000 feet in the sierra nevada. about a foot of snow for kirkwood. definitely something to get excited about. we are look at the rainy conditions from the northern sierra. sunny in los angeles. it will take a while for them to see any rain, if any at at all from this system.

send no more than two representatives to discuss how they can make changes. gop candidates ben carson and carley fiorina will discuss their chains following the third presidential debate. on "this week" the two will talk debate strategy ahead of the two-day summit and why the campaigns want the major changes in the debate. you can watch "this week" with george stephanopoulos right here on abc7 this morning >> it's a tradition in a high school athletes who excel in sports get a varsity jacket worn on a jacket or sleeve. now the honor is being extended to a special olympian at the high school. as laura anthony found out, that young man is wearing it proudly. >> 18-year-old andrew brum just told us putting on his letter man jacket makes him feel really good. >> i feel like it's meant to be on me.

i worked six years so hard doing it. it makes me feel happy. and a better part of me. >> brum has been competing as a special olympian in basketball and bowling since he was 12. but at foothill and most high schools, varsity letters were given only to those students who achieved certain standards at their respective sports at school. >> and one day i was driving in my car and said why can't he have one in. >> that's when andrew's mother decided to make a discussion to the school principal. >> i was thinking about the pictures and how families take pictures of their seniors with their letterman's jackets. >> he is deserving to represent foothill agent heats everywhere. >> the lotter means a lot to appear drew and sends a message to the larger student body. >> it's all about meaningful inclusion, and when you are

a young girl in a white dress runs in and out of frame. nobody knows who she is and doesn't know how she got there. they couldn't find her before or after that time on any of the 20 cameras. considering the place used to be a mortuary for decades, it may not be unusual. >> people say they deal with this all the time early and late. >> managers say the area where she was spot sudden where there used to be an elevator to take the bodies up for embalming. abc7 news was in downtown menlo park yesterday afternoon for the city's annual halloween hoopla festival. kids came out in all kinds of costumes to truck or treat, snag candy and play halloween games. there were also arts and crafts with spooky themes and a pumpkin wait guest for prizes.

halloween celebration necessary the east bay had hundreds of people really getting into the spirit. abc7 news was at the community center in san leandro for the halloween carnival on saturday. there wasn't any candy at this free event but lots of creative costumes. scary games like the eyeball splash and even a magic show featuring goofball, the magician. and it's not too late to show you how you celebrated halloween. share a picture or video with us showing the #spookyon7. you can see the photos on our website. silicone-based bands are a great way to show support for a person or a cause. one woman created wristband to memorialize her sister when she died. however, it wasn't the fitting tribute that she wanted. michael finney has her story. >> we were alike in a lot of

an cold front will work on down tonight and through tomorrow. it will bring a chance of thunderstorms with the passage of the cold front. so those are the next couple of hours. you notice the rain continues to stay north of ukiah. by 10:00, 11:00 we are have rain from ukiah to cloverdale. second half of the day, that's what you are wondering about, right? most of it had be dry. we will detail it in a few minutes. care minute. thank you. rohnert park police want any witnesses to come forward to help identify a man who tried to kidnap a 13-year-old girl walking home from school. while grab being her, police say he sexually assaulted the teenager. he's in jail this morning. katie has the details. >> people who live near adrian drive and southwest boulevard in rohnert are experiencing shock and relief. >> oh, no, i'm not letting my daughter walk home. >> the 53-year-old man, joseph,

likely followed a 13-year-old girl as she walked home from technology middle school many he may have been hanging around the school for the past few weeks. >> she saw him and she fell. and he at one point grabbed her and hung on to her and actually moved her >> the teen fought back, ran home, and her parents called 911. police arrested the man on attempted kidnapping and sexual battery charges. >> people like that should not be around here. >> miguel lopez has lived in the neighborhood for more than 20 years. >> kids are always pretty safe with their parents. it's amazing that that happened and i'm glad they caught him. >> since it happened around 3:15 in the afternoon, investigators hope witnesses will come forward. >> yes, this is very bold, broad day light time of day. there were a lot of people around. police say his mental capacity may be a factor in the assault. in rohnert park, abc7 news. new this morning, north carolina police are locking for a suspect who shot and killed a person and injured another at a university late last night.

that shooting happened just before police say the suspected gunman is not believed to be a current student. new details this morning on the russian passenger jet that killed more than 200 people on board. the international officials expect the first bodies to begin arriving in st. petersburg today. the cause of the crash is still unknown. but investigators are leaning toward a technical failure. russia's transport minister has dismissed claims isis brought down the claims. officials say of the 224 people aboard the plane, there are no survivors. forrensics experts have started the first autopsy of the 27 victims of friday's nightclub fire in romania. romania's president laid flowers

and lit a candle outside the nightclub. he believes safety regulations were ignored. a metal band was performing a free show in the basement club when there was a problem with pyrotechnics. 180 others were hurt. some in critical condition with burns and smoke inhalation. the nightclub had as many as 400 young people inside. new this morning the national transportation safety board said a navy search team has found the wreckage of a vessel they believe to be the cargo ship alfaro. crews found the ship last night in. it disappeared october 1st during hurricane joaquin. 39 people were on board at the time it went down. the navy is sending appear underwatercraft to investigate today but it could take up to 15 days to complete. an investigation is underway after an e. coli scare forced

chipotle to close 42 restaurants in two states. the restaurants are in seattle and oregon. 19 people in washing top and another 3 in portland became sick after eating at the mexican food chain, according to oregon health officials. 8 people are in the hospital. chipotle said safety is its first priority and they have shut down dozens of stores as a precaution after being notified that people became sick after eating at 12 restaurants. up next, the warning from auto safety restaurants about those cars google is testing and why they might want to consider putting the roll-out on hold. and here's a live look from our golden gate bridge. lisa argen is tracking showers and she will have a full accuweather forecast in just a few.

the south bay and then the low moves overhead on monday. that will give us the chance of a thunderstorm. so here we go with 10:00 today. you will notice the heavy activity from ukiah, points north. and cloverdale a few showers. by 1:00 the rain is still to the north. santa rosa looking at a few showers. into the 4:00, 5:00 hour it begins to sink south. by 8:00 it's from vo hay show up i-80, across san francisco. the peninsula is getting wet, san francisco. by 11:00 you will notice it pushes further toward hayward, castro valley, livermore and down through the santa cruz mountains. finally san jose getting rain. at 3:00 in the morning another push of rain for the peninsula, south bay. 8:00 tomorrow morning here's where the told showers get going many we had have the spotty, convective showers. some sunshine, some clouds, the heavy downpours, maybe a few areas of hail. and this goes through the early part of the morning. then we had dry out. so with all that activity from
