abc7 news starts right now with live breaking news. that breaking news, two stories unfolding right now. first, two 12-year-old boys hit by a car in san francisco. both have life threatening injuries. then, five people stabbed at uc merced. the suspect killed, and the campus is closed. more on the investigation. and reaction from students who actually witnessed the chaos. thank you for joining us i'm kristen sze. >> i'm cheryl jepgs. we were going to have more on the stabbing at uc merced in just a moment. first, two boys were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. they were hit at buchanan street and bay street at about 8:30 this morning. janet o'joins us from the scene.

>> reporter: cheryl, san francisco police say the 7th graders were walking to maureor middle school when they were struck in this crosswalk behind us. some of their belongings, ended up in the other crosswalk behind there. witnesses say the boys were clearly following pedestrian rules as they were crossing the street. they are at san francisco general being treated with their families by their sides. meanwhile, it's too soon to sigh if speed was factor in the 25 miles per hour zone. they say the driver. white volkswagen suv immediately stopped when she learned what happened. here's what they learned from her. >> preliminarily it appears that the truck you see behind me was stopped at the crosswalk waiting to make a turn for a delivery in the vicinity when the driver of

the vehicle next to him passed on his left side as the children was crossing in the crosswalk. >> reporter: investigators still have a lot of work to do out here. they don't know if the driver will face any charges related to this incident. some neighbors out here tell us they often see drivers speed down this road. but officials say it isn't particularly worse here than anywhere else in the city. but in light of this crash they are reassessing the situation and seeing if they can make things safer out here for all of the students, pedestrians and bicyclists who frequently use this road. back now to the other news story, the breaking news at uc merced campus. five people have been stabbed. the suspect shot and killed. uc merced is in the central valley city of merced. the stabbings happened inside a classroom, an office building. campus police say the subpoena was shot by officers and later died from his injuries. two of the stabbing victims were

take tony a local hop by helicopter. the other three were treated on catch us. all of them were said to be conscious after the attack. one student was in chemistry lecture when this incident happened. >> there was no rush, no panic, which is good. everyone left from this building avoiding the whole area. they all taped it off. so they all handled their job pretty well. >> the campus has been closed for day and students are being asked to stay home. uc merced administrators say they will provide an update for us at 4:00. laura anthony is on her way to merced and will have live reports for us at 4:00 and 5:00. also follow on twitter for breaking updates as they come in. 49ers head coach just finished talking to reporters for the first time since quarterback colin kaepernick was benched and tight end vernon davis was traded. we have the story. matt? >> reporter: that press

conference just wrapped up about ten, 15 minutes ago. and our sports guy, mike shumann, was there. and what did you take from this press conference? what was the most interesting thing to you? >> initially, he said he made the decision 100%. i don't believe that to be true. i think trent balky had to confirm this so that he could go ahead and make that decision. number two, we asked him about blaine gabbert. he didn't really know what he had in him because he hadn't seen him since the preseason. interesting, a head coach doesn't know what he has in a guy he is going to replace. number three, collin took it like a man. it will give him a chance to see the big picture without having any pressure on him this week. >> reporter: is there any chance collin will ever start again? >> i think this week they want to see what they have in gabbert. then you have a bye week. they can figure out whether they

want to alter the game to fit gabbert's game or play collin again. >> reporter: showcase him for a trade? >> they can do that. but maybe showcase him for the off-season trade. >> i appreciate it. a lot of games still to be played this season. the 49ers will not look the same this sunday. two of the biggest names on the team were given some harsh news this week. tight end vernon davis was traded to the denver broncos on monday and quarterback colin kaepernick was benched heading into sunday's game against the atlanta falcons. it might not be the end of his nfl career but analysts say this is likely the end of kaepernick's time in the bay area. >> i don't think he is broken completely. i think this is reparable. but right now he had to be benched because jim tomasula can't stand in front of the team and say he is going to evaluate every player and ignore how poorly the quarterback has played the majority of this year. >> reporter: just because the quarterback of the nfl's lowest

scoring offense will now hold a clipboard don't expect things to get better with gabbert. the prediction system for the nfl projects the offense led by gabbert will score five less points a game and cost the 49ers one more win on the season. they now have a 30% chance of having the worst record in the nfl. as the faces change on the field, the face and name of vernon davis remains in the community. he's the owner and frequent customer at his jam about juice just a mile and a half away from levi stadium. customers and workers told me they were sad he was traded. >> it is disappointing. i wish he would stay. >> reporter: if you are interested in coming to levi stadium this sunday for blaine gab expert the 49ers taking on the atlanta falcons there is good news. tickets are cheap. i went on line and found several for less than $50 each. matt keller, abc7 news. state agencies are holding an emergency meeting tomorrow to

decide whether to delay the highly anticipated start of the local crab season. this after a health warn being deadly toxin found in crab off the california coast. abc7 news reporter amy hollyfield is live at fisherman's wharf. amy. >> reporter: hi kristen. officials have their eye on ths saturday when the recreational crab season opens. but it is in question. dan enjoys fishing for his family. today's catch is a bag of mackerel. he likes to catch crab, too but is concerned about the crab recently testing positive for a toxin that can make you sick. >> it's nice to be able to go out and catch dinner every day. disappointing. >> reporter: he is really worried about what this will do for the crab industry. you don't have to look far in san francisco to realize eating crab here is a big deal. >> it's going to affect us bigtime. >> reporter: seafood stands say

local crab is the one thing that draws local to this tourist heavy area. all of them wanting crab for their holiday tables. >> we wait for them every november. we are not going to get any crab. that's a bummer. >> reporter: officials in sacramento are currently testing crabs and will announce tomorrow whether the recreational and commercial seasons will be postponed. for roadan, the damage may have already been done. >> obviously there was something found for them to say there is an issue. and clearing it i'm not sure it's going the clear it in my mine that it's going to be okay. >> reporter: we expect that decision tomorrow. it's an important one for them to be considering. but it's timely one. the lock is ticking on this one with the commercial season set to start in just under two weeks, on november 15th. live in san francisco, amy hollyfield, abc7 news. >> amy. thank you. now to our election coverage in san francisco. voters rejected proposition f, which would have cut down on

short-term rejectsals. >> the results show a 5% of san francisco voters voted no on the proposition f. that measure would have limited short-term rentals to 75 nights a year where the required hosting platforms to delete listings that exceeded the limit. b and bs would have most unless every year. >> as people learned more about the measure they moved further away from it. whether it was the prop f encouraging people to sue each other or the invasive privacy requirements. >> any b and b or other corporations are going to try to spend $9 million to convince people to vote know. it's hard to i don't have come that. >> a spokesperson says voters stood up for working class families and the right to share their homes. >> reporter: vicky hennessy won her about it to replace the incumbent shaerve with 61% of the vote to his 33%.

hennessey supporters cheered her at her party headquarters. she becomes the first elected female sheriff in the department's 165-year history. hennessey served as interim sheriff was the sheriff was investigated over a domestic violence charge. the incumbent has yet to concede the race. ed lee won 57% of the votes against his closest opponent. lee spent 30 times more on his campaign than all 11 off his opponents kind. another hot race. district 3 supervise, aaron possess kin beat out incumbent christiansen. possess kin served as supervisor from 2001 to 2009. he was president of the board in '032005. possess kin's win challenges the balance on therd bo of supervisors giving progressives a one up over the moderates.

. this morning an overwhelming number of faculty members for the california state university system have voted to authorize a strike. members of the california faculty association have been locked in a prolonged contract dispute. the vote authorizes the board to call a strike. but one has not been called yet. contract talks broke off between the faculty association and the university officials earlier this month. the association wants a 5% raise. the university countered with a 2% up crease in pay. the widow of comedian and actor robin williams is revealing new details about legal battle that followed between her and robin's children over his estate. in an abc news exclusive, susan williams explains why she took legal action. >> i was forced into it, basically. two and a half weeks after robin had left, i was still in shock. not back in our home. i was told that might not be

was at san francisco city hall where a celebration was held to unveil a art exhibition. it's called oh, glorious city. 100 drawings of iconic san franciscans and landmarks will be on display on the ground floor. harvey milk, the twins. they were all drawn by jeremy fish. diane fine steen, fish will be the first ever artist in residence at city hall. >> great work. a popular path for cyclists and pedestrians in palo alto is now closed for the winter. recent rain flooded the adobe creek undercrossing. this is what it looks like now. water flowing through, debris clinging to the fence. they have closed the path for the season. haven't said when it will reopen in the spring. when is the next time we have a chance for rain? >> we want the snow to stick up in lake tahoe. >> our next winter storm is

calm down. the high clouds may keep a lot of fog from forming but there will be patches to out there. more reign likely for sunday and monday. 68, 9, however it doesn't feel that warm with the breeze w. the breeze tapering tonight we'll see 40s. more than we felt this morning. and 50s in oakland, richmond, and san francisco. let's look at what's going on. that area of low pressure pulling away. high pressure trying to build in behind it. clockwise flow means the high pattern are going to be the mainstay towards saturday. saturday afternoon, increasing high clouds. sunday starting around 10:00 light rain developing along the coast and into the north bay. then it looks like monday modern's commute could be a wet one with light rain and scattered showers and thunderstorms after it. right now the rainfall amounts are looking at 15/100 to

building -- they saw him cross a bridge. that's when a police officer in pursuit shot him. we saw pictures on various social media of that suspect lying down on that bridge. and we are informed that he later died after he was treated here at the scene. now, students describe a lot of just strange activity. they were very frightened here on the campus. they were terrified that this could actually happen on their campus. very young campus here at the uc merced. and this is the first time anything like this has ever happened to them. we're live in merced, abc7 news. >> thank you for the report. campus remains closed. classes canceled. we're following breaking news out of san diego as well. flights are grounded at san diego airport because of a nearby active shooter at an apartment complex. get updates on twitter at abc7 news bay area. long lines expected outside a
