on it were offensive messages toward african americans threatening to have a publish lynching. students and parents were notified via e-mail. >> yesterday, it was about 8:00 at night and yesterday, i was fearing for my life. >> everybody else feels the need to stand out for it. >> the black student union called for a rally and, this morning, close to 1,000 students joined in a march. finally, they took their voices to uc berkley. >> i just took it as a sign, a message. racism isn't over. >> in a lot of ways, it's like a hate crime. >> it is considered a hate crime, the matter is being investigated by berkley police. >> and a student is likely to be charged now.

when i asked the principal if the student would be expelled, the principal told me very likely, possibly. they will not identify the student or give a name for fear of retaliation. >> we have some new details just emerging about yesterday's stabbing. authorities say the 18-year-old was carrying a manifesto when he was shot and killed by police. the manifesto contained a list of students he was targeting. he was going to tie students to desks and then steal a gun from police. he was shot after stabbing four people with a hunting knife. >> i don't think if he's specifically targeting that classroom. i can tell you that his intentions were to go further than what he did.

>> officials say muhammad was from the bay area. he lived in santa clara and graduated in june. those who knew him say he kept to himself. >> we know that he was a quiet student. he was a very good student while he was here. >> muhammad took advanced placement classes. the school district brought in counselors today to help students deal with this tragedy. >> students have been holding special classes to teach students how to react to an avail lant on campus. >> well, college students readily admit that they are often living in a bubble. a big push is underway to teach

them about what to do if somebody comes on campus with a gun or a knife. a process involved critical thinking. >> now it's time to think about, okay, what will i do if this happens. it's time to prepare yourself, mentally and physically. >> one of 14 students who took a voluntary class today on what to do. the number of such incidents surprised the group. >> we're at 48 or 49 depending on how you look at one certain case. that's a lot. that's too many. they teach the hour-long class where students are taught to run or defend. they're told for example to keep running even if someone stumbles or falls. >> if someone goes down and they're asking for help, we tell you just to keep going. are they willing and ready to do that? >> perhaps even tougher is deciding whether to take on an assailant to save yourself. the lesson is you must.

consumer reports just released a survey of 20,000 of the magazine subscribers identifying the airlines that soar for domestic, non-stop service and those that don't. >> travelers are far from happy with the co-service they're getting, according to the consumer report survey. of the 13 airlines evaluated, most get the lowest score possible on a number of areas. >> not having enough leg room and seat width are common complaints. most get room for carry ones. >> budget carrier, spirit airways comes in last with an overall satisfaction rating that's significantly worse than all other airlines. the big three u.s. airlines don't do that well, either. delta, american and united fall in the middle or near the bottom of the ratings. they are among those with the lowest possible score on leg room, seat comfort, food and in-flight entertainment.
