>> this is abc7 news. >> good morning, everyone. i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, november 8th. let's start with a quick look at the weather with our meet lisa argen. >> hey, carolyn, good morning. live doppler 7hd shows rain in the north bay, in fact, just north of santa rosa, ukiah and cloverdale. you can see a few scattered showers toward the west, sea ranch, fort ross, and clear lake, hidden valley lake and lake port some scattered showers. this will continue throughout the morning hours. we are on the leading edge of a cold front that will sweep through the bay area today. in fact, just in time to get you folks wet if you are headed to the niners game. so we've got this first system come in, and then we have the cold core of the system, the

upper level low, sweeping through tomorrow which will bring even heavier showers and more in terms of rainfall accumulation. we will talk where and when come up >> thank you. you may have seen a mysterious light in the sky last night for a good 20 or 30 minutes, which added to the mystery. here's video from glen cameron, who shot this in san mateo county near the san francisco international airport. you can see how brightly it shined over the freeway. then this video from our abc affiliate in san diego shot near chula vista. there's an explanation from the u.s. navy. around 6:00 last night the navy said they flied a test flight from the uss kentucky, which was off the coast of southern california. you can see the bright flash in this video. people in the bay area are

describing a similar sight. >> it was deeming off the lake and it was owe bright it was shoot you up in the air. it was awesome. it was weird. a spokesperson said missile testing is not routinely announced since the information is classified prior to launch. people have been sending us pictures and videos from all over, using the # abc7 now. karen sullivan's picture shows a cone of light tracing behind the rocket. and these pictures show a duller light but it's fill much of the sky. and rachel power shows the beaming light from the rocket and the light behind it. our pictures weren't just from the bay area, they came from southern california, phoenix and las vegas. when you see news where you live, take a photo or video and

share it with us using the #abc7 now. we may show is on error on abc7 news copped. the faa is investigating a small plane crash in san jose. all four people on board walked away. you can see it flipped over on the runway. it happened around 8:45 last night at the reed hill view airport. single edge cessna was landing when the landing gear hit the side of the runway. only one passenger went to the hospital with a minor injury. the federal aviation administration is investigating how a skydiving demonstration killed a sky diver in madera yesterday. thousands of people at the festival witnessed the tragedy. a reporter from our sister station in fresno reports on what went wrong. >> in a split second a family festival became the scene of an accident. >> everyone was just pointing at

the sky, and i looked to see someone fall in the parachute. >> authorities say a 65-year-old sky diver was taking part in an airshow and was trying to land at a madera airport. >> the victim's chute was tangled. attempts were made to disrupt the tangling of the chute. they proved to be unsuccessful. >> hundreds of feet away the victim's first chute landed among a row of trees. witnesses say this is video of that first chute landing in trees far away from his body. >> out of the corner of our eye we saw the lose parachute and it was flying all by itself like a deflated balloon, going down by itself. the sky diver himself fell next to alex's truck, who said he was in that railroad spot just minutes before the crash. >> sounded like a car hit something and turned around and sure enough, it was the

gentleman that had fallen between the cars. the federal aviation administration is now involved in the investigation to find out how exactly this tragedy could have happened. abc7 news. a car crash caused a gas leak in san jose. abc7 news was at san philippeway road near silver okay elementary school where a car flipped over yesterday afternoon. it knocked over some policy. one bent causing a break in a four-inch bass line. it took pg&e crews nearly two hours to stop the creek. a blue lib won commission in santa clara county investigating a jail inmate's murder said it may have to quit before ever finding answers. the commission just learned the county has secretly hired a team of private consultants to do the same job. abc7 news reporter cornell bernard has the details.

>> i have concerns will how this commission can receive. >> 25 volunteers from all walks with a common goal, investigate jails in santa clara county following the death of an inmate last august. three deputies were charged with his murder. but the judge said she was shocked to learn the county hired a private consultants to do the same job in secret. the results will be kept secret, even from this panel, who appear to be doing the same job. they were hired to protect the county from future lawsuits. >> it's to expose everything, liability be damaged. >> they got this lotter friday, and it notified them about the paid consultant, whose findings would only compliment the blue ribbon's commissions work. >> we need more and more

traffic backup. drivers are being diverted off king street where i-280 ends. we saw cars backed up beyond mariposa on 280. >> how long have you been stuck in traffic in. >> it's been about 40 minutes. not so great. as for muni rail riders on the turned t-line, they said they will have to take shuttle buses a the embarcadero station heading through bay point at sunny available station. abc7 news. construction crews are demolishing asenty-old railway bridge in the heart of san mateo. it will come down this weekend and be replaced with a newer seismically safe structure. the work is expected to finish tomorrow morning, which would be good, lisa, because there will be something else for drivers to deal with in the morning. >> yeah. actually tomorrow looks like the heavier rain, as we get behind this weak will cold front that

new this morning, family and friends gathered this morning for a memorial killed for the vibe tipples killed in last week's plane crash in egypt [bells toll] >> the bells at st. petersburg raining 224 times, one for each of the victims. most were from the area of russia. some suspect a bomb a brought the flight down, but egypt warns it's still too early to say what caused the crash. sierra leone is free of ebola but one of its neighboring countries is not. 42 days have passed, twice the incubation period, since the last case was dispatched in sierra leone. it was the worst outbreak in history. but new in new guinea they have

reported seven new cases of ebola in the past 21 days. this is a move that seems to defylogic, getting rid of trash by getting rid of trash cans but that's exactly what they are doing at this beach in san francisco. and park officials say it's working. but people who live around there are not so sure. sand, eagles and a social experiment at san francisco's ocean beach. how do you reduce litter? >> i think more trash cans and bigger trash cans. >> instead the national park service removed garbage cans in a campaign commonly known as pack it in, pack it out. i think in theory it's a great policy. i think we are all capable of bringing the stuff that we bring out to the beach back with us. >> evan boucher and his friends loaded their garbage into their

car. but the be neighbors say some won't make the effort. i don't think it's a good idea. i can't imagine it work being for everybody or they are on a bike, this won't take out their trash. the others say the old trash bins weren't working anyway. there's always trash. sometimes on the weekend when we walk the dogs we will bring bags and gloves to pick up and we are always filling them up. she came out more than a week ago. rangers have spent significantly less time cleaning up garbage, from several hours to 15 minutes. so faerber the experiment is working. even if it's counterintuitive. >> humanity doesn't follow rules, not all of humanity. you will get probably a solid personal of people who just litter. >> and those people will litter whether you have cans or not. as ocean beach, abc7 news. >> hundreds of people in san francisco got ready this weekend for the possibility of a wet el nino season.

students, parents, neighbors of lakeshore elementary school spent yesterday building a rainwater catch meant step on campus. it involves planting and replanting trees, clearing dirt and redirecting water away from storm drains. they wanted to put every drop of water to good use. it's raining tomorrow, and we're hoping that we can even catch some rainwater and it will have an immediate impact. >> the volunteers took home an important lesson about san francisco's water supply and where it only natures hundreds of miles away at the hetch hetchy reservoir. coming up tonight at 11:00. >> the idea of your nice little green grass getting water every day, that's going to be a thing of the past. >> californians were supposed to cut back on water, as you know, so why are there so many green lawns in southern california? abc news anchor looks at the

up to 49 for you. overra anywhere from 2 to 7 degrees warmer from san francisco to the coast. 10 degrees warmer by the delta and up in santa rosa you are about 6 degrees warmer. we start out with the rain advancing from the north. by 9:00 we should see rain from burl game over to vallejo, berkeley, 580. as we go a few more hours into the 2:00 hour it is pushing through the east bay and south bay. game time 1:00 should see showers around santa clara. then we have the lull around 10:00. here's what happens through the overnight hours. heavy rain. tomorrow morning 7:00 through the north bay into san francisco. then by 8:00 just an hour later, just like last monday, it pushes through into the east. then you see things quiet down. so the first waive of rain with the front, not a whole lot. anywhere from a quarter inch to a third but lesser amounts in the south bay. about a tenth throughout san jose. look what happens as we go through the next wave. maybe an inch in oakland.

wharf. it's usually held on market street. this year organizers moved it to fisherman's wharf in an effort to attract a larger crowd. fire chief joanne hayes-white all expected to attend, as well as more than a thousand veterans. the parade begins at 11:00 this morning. a major veterans organization is suing the city of san francisco. the legal battle is over office space in a building dedicated in their honor. but the vets are feeling dishonored and they will be back in court later this week. veterans from many of the nation's wars gathered at san francisco's superior court, supporting a lawsuit against the city. >> they have basically treated us like the ugly stepchildren. veterans have been saluted with a beautiful granite memorial and reflecting pools on a site with earth from some of the battlefields. the legal bats is over the building next door. the war memorial veterans

bee keepers and the couple is on a crusade to get home improvement stores to remove pesticides that kill honeybees from their shelves. they said a chemical involved is the reason their pollinators are dying off at his hive. >> we should have had about 60 pounds of honey from our bees. this year we harvested only 25 pounds. >> three mainly hardware chains, lowe's, home depot and ace, have all signed on to the campaign. the chemical producers say their products save the nation's food supply from invasive pests and the bee die off is also as a result of environmental factors and live management practices. uber, ride share company will start targeting tourists in napa and sonoma counties.

it will be partly cloudy for most of you with the rain spreading from the north bay to the south and east. so it is a weak system. not as much rain as we had last week. but the second part of it will pack just as big of a pun of, if not more. so with the heavier downpours from the peninsula, the least bay and the north bay. the north bay kind of left out of it last type. and with the cold area of low pressure the snow levels really come down across the bay area. so a closer inspection and you will notice up 101 towards will lows and i-5 we are looking at wet weather. clear lake and lake pot and a few light scattered showers from bodega bay and elsewhere, just offshore of point reyes we have a few light showers a live look outside from emeryville. temperatures are a little bit easier to take this morning in the 40s and 50s. 53 san francisco, and the worm spot. 48 half moon bay. the cool spot at 41 degrees, morgan hill. with the warmer start we havethe
