>> right now, mourners in san francisco are remembering those killed in the paris attacks. we can show you a picture of malcolm x plaza. organizers want to honor cal state's long branch student. she was one studying in paris when this tragedy happened. the other 16 are safe. she was studying industrial design. one of her professors say she's a shining star recently coming in second in a design competition. >> and as the wrorld continues to mourn and respond to the attack from paris, a massive security training exercise just wrapped up in santa clara. the preparation for superbowl 50 and was planned wreaks before friday's attack in paris. it takes on new meaning now. abc 7 news reporter joins us in santa clara. dafd? >> cheryl, the organizers say

they're very much aware of events but say the attacks did not change their scenario at all today. they did say that the details as well as tactics will be kept secret. >> agencies from across the region rolled in equipment to levi's stadium. it was apparent that dozens, if not hundreds volunteered. an fbi invitation was later reensiree rescinded for the media to attend the event. >> we try to keep this day e discreet. there's certain thing that is we don't want film and we don't want publicized. >> as you can see from sky 7 hd overhead, the exercise proceeded. the scenario was never released. transport helicopters made several passes. >> training is always an

intragal part of the daily things that we do. and, particularly, we face an event like the superbowl, we want to take all of the precautions that we can to ensure that we have the bases covered. >> the two agencies say that they plan to make the stadium safe not only for the superbowl but for other concerts held here. >> in the planning process, you always have to prepare for the unknowns. so you go through a variety of scenarios. what if this happens? what if it rains? what if it snows? what if you get a larger turn out of people than you expected. and all of those -- you prepare for any eventuality. >> in santa clara, abc 7 news. >> the paris attacks compelled administrators to alert police about strange graffiti on the playground. police have asked the fbi to investigate this graffiti. abc 7 news reporter is live in

the hayes valley neighborhood. >> definitely. that graffiti was scrawled on a green wall over there that you may be able to see. it happened overnight. this is a school that has deep, deep connections to france, paris, in particular. so you can imagine that they would be worried. this afternoon, crews began painting over the graffiti. >> obviously, in light of what has been happening, we thought that it was better to err on the side of caution. >> that man is calling in police who have conferred with the fbi. it is not connected to terrorism. >> we have discovered that the graffiti does not appear to be related to isis.

it looks like it is a a domestic group that has some ties to the nation of islam. >> the group is called the 5% nation or 5%ers. here's the official symbol of the movement founded in the 1960s. considered an offshoot of the nation of islam. many hip hop artists wear the symbol. 5 mnters are the original beings. >> i'm not sure of the meaning towards the graffiti, but i know we aren't in danger. >> the investigation continues. police say they want to determine if the vandalism a mouth to a hate crime. in san francisco, abc 7 news. >> and there is late word of a second fugitive. he could be a ninth attacker. more on that coming up on world news at 5:30.

>> now, the tour bus crash in san francisco that injured 20 people. today, only abc 7 news was there. investigators took their first look at the bus. it was supposed to be registered with the utility commission. but that agency says they were never imformed about it. the bus passed inspection september 25th. the the bus driver told abc 7 news the brakes failed. >> san jose police have picked up a 17-year-old high school student soliciting nude pictures of san jose schools. some of the pictures were distributed through instagram. there's other similar pages out there in cyber space. she's live where the story. this is more serious than initially thought.

it appears that it's linked to instagram used to share very inappropriate images. >> there are at least 10 user names on instagram with the words san jose bops. bop is an urban term for a woman who has many casual sexual partners. police are working with twro school districts. >> whether they have students who are victims or not, these schools are communicating with parents and are letting them know that this investigation is taking place. >> this all began yesterday. police arrested a 17-year-old for posting pictures and calling females derogatory names. instagram has since closed that account, but this one surfaced, claiming to be part ii since the other account got caught.

>> was i shocked? shocked that a couple of the girls focused on there. >> reporter: because the girls are minors, it's considered child pornography, a felony. >> there are consequences depending on the behavior on social media. it's important for us to make parents aware of that. >> instgram did not return our calls or e-mails. and despite severity of the matter, san jose police also kept silent today. their response today was this is an on going criminal investigation. in san jose, abc 7 news. >>. >> police are looking for vandals who smashed in property using an excavator. a gaping hole inside the building. it happened over the weekend. police estimate the damage to be

$30-40,000. police are not sure how the driver started that vehicle. >> two 49ers fans accused of beating a minnesota viking's fan were in santa clara county. they're accused of repeatedly kicking and punching the man. the attack was captured on cell phone video. >> this is not a case about teen rivalry or the minnesota vikings. this is about senseless criminal violence. >> the men are not allowed to contact the victim of the beating, but can attend 49ers games. >> alden smith will not be playing football again for white a while. the nfl suspended smith for one calendar year for violations of its substance abuse policy.

smith signed a one-year contract in september following his release by the 49ers. this is his second major suspension in the last two years. he sat out nine games last year for violating the policy. a new six-year contract. $75 million. is coming off his best season by far. he had .256 and 24 home runs and won his first gold glove. he had a phenomenal year. he made his major league debut in 2011. congratulations. great work. >> and still ahead, a 7 t-year-old woman in san francisco recounts a terrifying ordeal. >> i just stayed down.

this thursday at city hall to discuss the string of burglaries which extends not only to this city, but to neighboring towns like san bruno, daly city and pacifica. >> two have within home invasions. somebody poked me and said give me your money. i said i don't have any money. i just stayed down and didn't fight. >> they're happening in the afternoon. they pry open a sliding door in the back and steal at their pleasure. the neighbors stumbled upon three burglarers when she came home early.

>> when she went to run out, there was another one in her living room that stopped her and took her -- i'm not sure if it's her purse, but dropped her down. >> when confronted with the residents rather than leaving home, they continue to steal from the residence and then leave, regardless of that homeowner still being there. >> everyone we spoke to knew about the rash of burglaries. ana was patrolling the neighborhood, looking for anything suspicious. >> yeah, why not. this is what they do. we're at work and they're vandalizing us. >> the largest group of unionized sonoma county workers on a one-day strike today.

today, the organization says it will now lobby for a ban on drug advertising in the united states. >> any prescription may increase the chance of heart attack or stroke which can lead to death. >> the medical association believes the ad which flood the air waves are driving up prices nationwide. a research group says their company spent $4.5 billion on advertising last year, a 30% increase over two years. >> where he will, as we begin to see the el nino effects, you may be thinking about getting a car with all-wheel drive. >> in snow country, you've got to have a four-wheel drive, right? not necessarily here. consumer reports says there's something far more effective to consider.

inside today. the new hospital will add 31 more emergency room beds, two trauma rooms and three operating rooms. the er will have two ct scanners. >> the benefit is for the trauma of the medical patient who's here. it also helps inpatient and out patient who have scheduled ct scanners. >> there is also a rooftop garden with magnificent views of the city. the hospital raised $135 million to out fit the medical center. the hospital will open in the spring. >> you can call it the candidate out of the bag. jimmy panetta is currently the district attorney in monteray county. he's running to replace congressman sam farr. now, panetta's son is running for that same seat.
