>> thanks so much for joining us. traxing the next storm coming in on live doppler 7 hd. >> that's right. it connells in tonight. let's check out live doppler 7 hd and we'll talk about where we are seeing showers developing. up to our north, still tracking a few showers. some of it turned into snow mixing in with rain up to the north. right now, the somehow i recalls are near greenville headed towards the bay. all roads leading up to the mountains require chains: sform warning is in effect until noon tomorrow. so additional snowfall is expected. rainfall here in the bay area. .03 in fair field to about .69 of an inch. everyone else in between that range. here's what you can expect. 7:00 tonight, scattered showers.

rain develops. shifting south at 10:00 p.m. it will be well into the south bay and parts of the east bay, the coast at midnight with a dusting of snow expected during the wee hours of the morning. showers will continue at 5:00 a.m. will they go beyond that? will this impact your holiday travels tomorrow? i'll be back with a detailed look coming right up. >> thank you. >> and here's a passenger view of the rain in morinne county. this is highway 101. >> tourists had to bunldle up a bit as they checked out fisherman's wharf. >> the high sie arra snow. >> there are near white out conditions. police are asking for plenlty of stopping distance.

>> we're joined now -- >> laura, you know about driving conditions firsthand. not easy to get out there. >> reporter: i sure do, dan. it took us four or five hours to get up here from the walnut creek area. we are at donnors sum mit. it is cold. it is windy. chain controls are in full effect here. just behind me, to my left, actually, you can see cars are moving through. but up behind us here, they're basically coming to a stop. this is typical of what we've seen throughout the day. you'll go for a few miles and then you'll stop. chains are required here on the mountain passes. and i would expected they will be for some time. for eastbound travelers headed to the high sierra the back-up began well below the snow level. and traffic was being held due to the many spinouts on the slick roadway above. >> we are sitting and sitting

and waiting and waiting and it's taking an awfully long time to get up here. >> the chain controls went up at niak. first time in a long time. >> it's been a while since i've installed the chains. i'm just going to keep at it here until i is have some major success. >> it's a little wet. it's difficult to get them on the hook on here. but we'll get there. >> those who didn't want to do it themselves hired one of the many chain installs. >> of course, the hassle is worth it to many here thanks to the prospects of spending a snowy thanksgiving at the end of a road. >> the goal is to relangs and eat and be with our friends and family and enjoy the snow.

who gunned down stealing the camera equipment of artist antonio ramos. carolyn tyler joins us with police head quarters. >> yeah, it was really quite shocking cheryl. in court documents, holloway add mits shooting out the victim, but says it was an accident. in the courtroom, we were not allowed to show his face, but, yes, you won't believe this blowout. >> drama in the alameda county superior courtroom as the judge began reading the charges against marquise holloway, the 21-year-old began to hyperventilate and then exploded with obscenities. [expletive]. >> holloway is accused of fatally shooting 27-year-old muralist antonio ramos who was working on a peace mural.

investigators say the murder was sparked by an argument after holloway made a move towards ramos' cameras. >> he was painting the mural and he had taken a break and was taking some pictures so he could memorial kraize it. >> oakland police say u.s. marshals and the f.b.i. tracked in stockton and arrested him friday. in addition to the murder, he's charged with several street crimes, included an attempted robbery. early in the morning, ramos was killed. in one robbery, in which a tv crew's camera was taken. inves fwa xxs say the surveillance cameras of a person of interest in the case helped lead to the arrest. today, the mayor expressed con doll e doe lensens to the ramos family. an incredible, beautiful, brave family that is enduring so much grief. >> as for holloway's family and friends, they left the court in anger, shattering a glass case

in the hallway. he's due back in court november 30th to be assigned a public defender. in oakland, carolyn tyler, abc 7 news. >> oakland police belietook bigs today focused on gang members and their guns. oakland police showing this morning's raids. the cease fire team arrested 18 people across several northern california cities. >> it does not give us joy to announce all of these arrests today. these are people that did not heed the message, that did not hear the community call to stop the harm, the fear that violence has brought to oakland. >> we had an argument. >> police chief shawn wendt says that one of the guns found today is linked to a double murder. >> there is heightened security at bay area airports.

breaking news in chicago, this is a live look at what is happening. protesters marching through the streets after a white police officer was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a black teenager. >> city and community leaders are pleading for calm following today's release of police dash cam video showing last october's shooting. you can see what happened. the teenager is in front of the officer when it appears the officer shoots him in the back spinning him to the ground. we're freezing the video at that point. but the officer shoots the teen a total of 16 times. city officials fought for months to keep the video from being released to the public. >> more than a dozen people are out of that you are homes after an early morning fire at an apartment complex. that fire was on santa barbra road. among those displaced, a family with a four-year-old child. the family tells investigators they escaped sachly because of a smoke detector in their home. the fire appeared to have started inside a trailer. >> attorneys for convicted

killer scott peterson have filed an appeal. the lawyers say they have expert evidence that his son was alive one week before lacey disappears. that evidence suggests she was kidnapped by someone other than scott peterson. >> the federal trade commission is cracking down on some car dealers who advertise nose zero money down leases. >> michael finney is here to explain what exactly is going on. >> this is an interesting story and it's going to resonate. some car dealers made big promtss of zero down leases when, in fact, very few customers actually qualify for them. the agency filed a kplantd against two dealerships that advertised easy sign and drive leases. they hid the fact buyers needed a near perfect credit score to qualify. and they buried fees in the fine print, too.

the dealerships are located in ohio, but the law applies everywhere. dealers must display lease terms prominently in their ads. >> thanks giving day means lots of home cooking and a greater risk for home fires. partly because cooks get distracted by chatting with guests or watching football. >> if you're going to be frying something, you've got to be with that pan the whole time. keep an eye on what you fry is a guy way that we always say to keep that reminder out there. >> you should create a safety zone around the stove to keep kids and flammable items away from the heat source. >> every year, we report on these. >> that's true. >> san jose is hoping a new coffee cart run by people's transitioning out of homelessness will become a new way to battle poverty.

meteorologist joining us now with the accuweather forecast. >> what a storm that blew through here today. >> right now, the air is chilled: it's a cold storm. you can feel it out here. you're going to definitely need to bundle up as you head toward the next couple of mornings. don't get rid of those umbrellas just yet. right now, as i take you down into street level, you will see some light rain do allow plenty of time to get to where you need to go. those are your cold showers that are coming later on tonight going into the wee hours of tomorrow morning. winds have definitely eased up. about 22 in hayward. earlier, we had wind gusts on the order of 38-45 miles an hour.

to travel, 9:00 p.m., still some damp roadways. 1 avm, you're getting an early start to head out of town again, scattered showers will continue with sthoe over mt. hamilton in the wee hours of the morning. the good news is 6:00 a.m., we start to see the clearing tomorrow morning and then if you are traveling after that time period, it will be dry if you are getting away. in the sierra, we're expecting additional snow so far. 11 inches at the resort. snow level will be dropping to 2500 feet. could see anywhere in between of 2 inches to 13 inches. and if you're traveling down to southern california, one to tw inches is possible over the grapevine. you know if you've ever driven through that, this could be very dice sill. it may mean a very long delay. here's what you need to know once the second batch 069 showers move through. boy, is it going to get chilly. tomorrow morning, not so bad. thursday, friday, saturday, sunday, you're really looking at low to mid 30s in livermore. and in many parts of the bay

families enjoyed some holiday cheer in oakland today. they came to the 24th annual thanksgiving dinner at the marriott center. >> volunteers came across the east bay to serve at this event. funds for the meal were donated through the city's hunger and homeless program. >> and a turkey give away in san jose today got so big, it had to be moved to a sports stadium. >> yeah, check out the lines outside the earth quake avias stadium. more than 3,000 families lined up this year despite the cold and the rain. >> organizers say the rising rents are creating a lot more need this year. >> they're waiting because that's the desperation in our community right now. to have. food on the table and to feed their families and their children. >> more than 500 volunteers helped hand out the food boxes including staff from the san ho sai.
