storm watch tonight. this is a live picture from the kgo roof cam. take a look. showers have returned to san francisco. >> this is after we saw steady rain and falling trees across the bay area today. now we're getting ready for cold temperatures and snow in the sierra. >> let's begin our abc7 news coverage with meteorologist sandhya patel and live doppler 7hd. sandhya? >> dan and ama, the streets are already turning slick again. let's look at live doppler 7hd and you can see why. this is the second part of the system that is moving in. so let's take you into the east bay from oakland to san leandro. we're taking you down on street level. we are seeing oak port street and light to moderate rain. as we look along the san mateo coast we are seeing light showers developing to half moon bay and also up to the north around dillon beach. we are getting moderate rain falling right now and heading toward the southeast. and now we take a look at some scattered light activity

around the monterey bay. mount hamilton will see a mix of rain and snow in the sierra. the chains are required and it is still snowing. the winter storm warning is going until noon tomorrow. we have colder air coming in behind the system and that means the temperatures will plunge. i'll let you know how cold and what's in store for your holiday coming up. >> thanks very much. happening in the sierra there are chain requirements on interstate 80 and 50. this was the scene near donner summit. you can see the roads coated in snow in this cal trans video. abc7's laura anthony made the trek to the sierra. >> five and a half hours. that's how long it took us to get to donner summit. a tough day of travel thanks to a steady snowfall and cold temperatures. >> this is the downside of a trip to the mountains at the height of a storm. though most people this early in the season seem to be taking it in stride.

photo or video and share it with us using the # abc7 now. we'll try to use your photos on air or abc7news.com. we have breaking news from berkeley where police are on the scene of a freeway shooting at eastbound 80. in this live picture you can see that some of the emergency lights on the shoulder of the highway on the right hand side are just under the sign. no injuries have been reported so far. we are told the victims are being interviewed by police right now. for breaking updates follow us on twitter at abc7 news bay area. we are learning new details tonight about the gun used in the murder of an oakland muralist. sources confirm with abc7 news that not only was it stolen, but stolen from a federal agent. katie is live in the newsroom with that and what turned out to be a dramatic day in court. katie? >> ama, law enforcement has confirmed that the gun used to shoot an oakland muralist was stolen from the vehicle of a federal ice agent.

but the man charged with the murder is not the man who stole the gun. >> the law enforcement officer had his black handgun. >> that's the all points bulletin that went out on september 13th after a law enforcement officer reported their car was broken into and a gun stolen. this was at second and south park street in san francisco. ice is now confirming a duty weapon was stolen from one of its officer's vehicles on that date. sean gibson was arrested for the car burglary and our police source says the gun ended up in the hands of holloway who used it to kill the muralist on september 29th. ramos was working on a piece mural under 580 in oakland. we were not allowed to shoot his face, but you can hear him hyper ventilate and then holloway begins to curse and scream. according to the court documents, holloway admits shooting at ramos, but says it

was an accident. holloway wasn't the only person who had an outburst in court. his friend and family shattered a glass case in the hallway. in san francisco, abc7 news. >> protesters chanted "16" as they marched through chicago blocking a highway. 16 were the shots that struck a black teenager shot by a white police officer. they charged officer jason van dyke with first degree murder today. the release of dash cam video showing the deadly encounter in october of last year triggered the protest. they claim the 17-year-old refused orders to drop a knife. well, now to the attack on terrorists. the ringleader suspected it of the attack planned to kill again in a new round of bombings. but he was killed in a police raid before he was able to commit more carnage.

taking you down to street level here in the east bay. we are seeing some showers around castro valley and hayward and san leandro. light to moderate in intensity. in the north bay still tracking an area that is not moving a lot. it is south of dillon beach. how much rain. .69 in ben loeman. the second part is coming through right now and it is dragging with it colder air. if you are already feeling the chill out there, you know, the wind adds to the chill. and it has been a cold wind. the winds have eased up and the temperatures are falling and upper 30s to the low 50s. you will need to bundle up when you get going. visibility is looking good from the vantage point. cold and frosty mornings are ahead and it will be dry for thanksgiving right on through sunday. satellite-radar showing you what brought the snow to the

mountains. it brought some wind to the bay area. and now we are seeing the second part of the system that will keep the showers going in the overnight hours. here is a look at the hour by hour time line. scatter ited showers at 11:00 p.m. midnight still looking at the possibility of some mixed precipitation. rain and snow over mount hamilton. showers are focused in the south bay. in case you are doing an early get away, 1:00 a.m. in the south bay toward monterey bay, 3:00 a.m. isolated shower, and then it is all winding down. by 5:00 if you do have to go to work tomorrow, it is dry as far as rain is concerned. the roads will be damp by the showers. by the afternoon hours it is looking mostly sunny. for your wednesday get away looking fine. additional snow in the sierra and we are expecting another several inches. so far anywhere from five to 15 inches. the snow level is dropping to 2500 feet. make sure you have your chains if you are heading up to the mountains. still likely will see delays over the greatvine.

then the plunge comes and the temperatures will drop. it will get frosty and cold. tomorrow morning not so bad. 39 degrees and you will notice low to mid30s. it is cold enough to make you shiver. you will need the extra log on the fireplace. an extra blanket on the bed. 34 napa and 35 fair field. you are looking at 41 in san jose and 39 livermore. mid40s san francisco. oakland, half moon bay. 42 in san mateo. keeping it cool for the afternoon. mostly sunny, but dry. 50s. and just a reminder to watch out for the potential for flooding in the usual spots due to higher than normal tides the next few days. accu-weather seven-day forecast, cold mornings ahead. it will be frosty, especially thanksgiving morning, black friday morning. afternoons will be dry. right now the computer models want to bring in a chance of rain on monday and tuesday and possibly dan and ama one model hinting sunday as well. we'll have to wait and see. it is changing up.
