suspect. >> good evening. happy thanksgiving. >> at least three law enforcement agencies launched investigations since abc7 broke the story two weeks ago. >> abc 7 reporter vic lee joins us with details. >> larry, cheryl, the new witness corroborates the account by another one we interviewed in our earlier story. we have learned that the man has been moved from san francisco general hospital to the santa clara county jail. he had been recuperating from surgery for life-altering injuries to hands and arms from the beating he took. >> reporter: abc7 first showed you this disturbing video two weeks ago. the 29-year-old was struck repeatedly by two alameda county sheriff deputies wielding batons while the 29-year-old was on the ground. tackled in the alley in the mission district when he led deputies on a 30-mile chase, after they say he rammed a sheriff's vehicle.

the baton blows came after he appeared to slow down when one of the deputies yelled stop. taken to san francisco general hospital where he's been treated for wounds to his head, arms and hands. two days ago, he was moved to santa clara county jail, where his mother says he was previously in a program for drug and mental issues. she is angry he was moved from the hospital so quick i. >> he's entitled to intensive, physical therapy in order to retain partial movement in his arms. >> they kept screaming, get on the ground, pushing him, beating him continuously. >> reporter: you heard from this witness, when we first aired or story. now, the second witness, who also lives in the alley, has come forward to abc 7 news. >> what i saw was a man not resisting arrest. i saw a man getting beat up, and the only thing that i saw him

doing was trying not to get hurt. i mean, he was covering himself up. >> reporter: san francisco police are investigating the incident. their report should be completed next week, then forwarded to the district attorney. vic lee, abc 7 news. >> san francisco police say the 54-year-old victim of this brutal robbery caught on surveillance video will need facial reconstructive surgery. this happened last month on stockton street at clay and chinatown. video shows robbers kicking the victim several times in the face. officers arrested 19-year-old tristean duree and odis doss yesterday, they say the two attacked the victim, and ran off with his smartphone. >> horrible, horrible incident. 19 years old shouldn't be doing that on the streets. it should have no reason to attack others. if they want a job, they want to be successful, we can help them as a city they don't have to turn to violence. >> both suspects were out on bail from previous offenses at the time of this crime. turn to the holiday

cold, hitting the road in search of thanksgiving sales, of course. >> black friday starting now at many stores in the bay airport best buy in san francisco on sonic avenue and geary boulevard opened at 5:00. shoppers didn't mind standing in the cold if it meant getting the best deals. target sales opened a couple minutes ago. good luck finding those deals. >> david louie is among the bargain hunters, or an observer, among a best buy in san jose. >> reporter: crowds have been well behaved, orderly, enthusiastic getting thanksgiving day shopping bargain. best buy had a lot of experience dealing with crowds. other stores in the bay area had long lines as customers awaited their doors to open proof that shoppers want bargains, more than 400 people lined up outside jcpenney ahead of doors opening at 3:00, they were orderly, each

received a gift card, two worth $500 each. for others, people lined up yesterday or earlier to snag limited deals on tv and electronics at best buy. matt got wrist band number one. >> i've been here, like, three years ago, but i was way in the back over there. so it's definitely a good feel to be here, be first. >> reporter: it's assumed women are expert bargain shoppers, it was all men waiting here until we got to ainsley. >> it doesn't have to be a guy thing. could be a girl thing. i never noticed. >> reporter: others didn't have to line up. new bass pro shops was open all day. >> one of the few stores in the bay area that opened early in the morning. most stores don't open until around 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening. we thought we'd get a head start, beat the crowd. >> reporter: how can you resist fish pillows for $25 that come in a variety of species or practical items like jeans. fleece jackets half price

also caught people's attention. kayla walked in knowing what bargains she wanted. >> i researched all of the black friday ads. since they're open all week i wanted to come earlier because so we could get the sales before they were all gone. >> reporter: for the kids, time to sit on santa's lap, or not in the case of the older child at heart. it's hard to beat the adrenaline rush of doors opening and mad dash to grab the one deal you camped out to get. david louie, abc7 news. >> california farm is recalling vegetable mix believed to be the source of e. coli in costco chicken salad that sickened 19 people in 7 states. taylor farms pacific in tracy recalled a mix of celery and onion. taylor farms has not responded to our request for comment. officials say number of people sickened by the outbreak will grow the next few weeks though the produce has been removed from store shelves.

volunteers spent thanksgiving at the san francisco marin food bank. abc 7 news as they sorted and packed donations at the warehouse. teams of volunteers got into the spirit, competing to see who could pack the most rice and macaroni. some bartenders came straight from their shift to help out. >> pays our rent and has a good time at our bars nice to get together, show appreciation for the people who can't afford to come out and see us at our restaurants and bars. >> so far, the food bank has enough ingredients for half of the 10 million holiday meals it will distribute by the end of the year, so they need your help. one of richmond's finest restaurants but today it opened its doors to the homeless, providing them with a fine meal and all of the service that comes with it. abc 7 news reporter laura anthony has our store yp. >> gravy, carrots, string beans. >> reporter: this is an experience not just a meal, one

hundreds of bay air family so grateful to a program that offers free summer camp for children living with cancer. it not only helps the children but offers family camps and camps for siblings to help the entire family cope with cancer. >> there's no way any words could explain how awesome this place is. no words at all. >> reporter: 9-year-old isaac doesn't let anything stop him at summer camp, even brain cancer that affected one eye when he was a baby. >> tumor's in there. and a piece of it had to be cut out. so i can't see in this eye.

>> reporter: isaac is at camp, provides free camp for kids, families and siblings in the sierra foothills. >> time to go. >> reporter: free to share stories with each other and with us. >> i had blood cancer, called leukemia, i was 5 years old. >> >> reporter: 11-year-old virginia had two boughts with cancer. she needed bone marrow transplant and her sister was a perfect match. >> she was 4, 5 years old and had to get a lot of shots and tests. i'm proud for her, and i'm really glad i survived. >> reporter: you run better than i can ever run. 12-year-old ashton and his family had to make a difficult decision when he was just 8, diagnosed with bone cancer.

>> we thought amputation was the best idea, i can still do all athletic things still, i run, i can do anything like a normal kid can do now. >> i was 10 years old, fifth grade, leukemia. >> reporter: we metal lex's brother and sister in 2014. very young when alec was going in and out of the hospital but his illness had an impact on his sibli siblings. max is in a band wjm donates proceeds to the camp and other charities. >> this is when the magic happens. >> reporter: a counselor volunteers her time. she was a camper years ago. she had a rough time with cancer as a child. when she was 30, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a double mastectomy. >> leukemia at 9, at 12, breast cancer at 30. i'm at my quota.

>> reporter: how are you doing now? >> fabulous. all right. first customer, always had nursing in the back of my head. being amongst other young survivors of breast cancer and in that community which i found that pushed me over the edge to get into nursing. >> reporter: her doctor was dr. mike, he and john are co-founders of the camp. dr. mike a bone marrow transplant specialist. john paid for the first camp with his travel money. >> biggest reward, to have that big effect on them and make them be the kind of people who want to make other people better. >> reporter: the camp added an extra weekend of family camp with educational programs to help families cut through red tape and getting help for children returning to school. >> they look different and feel different. they've lost their hair, lost a lot of weight, gained a lot of weight, surgical procedures. feel separated from their peers.
