>> reporter: kirincic was arrested, charged and convicted of felony assault and domestic violence. in october straw got a restraining order against him. it was a second one she had filed this year. this summer a judge issued an order against a former roommate who harassed her, but this one proved deadly. kirincic was just released from jail after serving 60 days of a 120-day sentence. >> what happened is he completed his jail sentence last week, and so the violation of the restraining order was when he allegedly committed this murder sneer there's an all-out manhunt for kirincic. >> we thought we had a couple good leads, chased a few down in the east bay but no luck. >> police swept bars in the administration station when a cell phone pinged nearby. meanwhile the victim's parents told us she always said best in everyone she member of the

statistics say restraining orders are usually successful. in this case it was not worth the paper it was written on. vic lee. abc 7 news. there are some new developments today in the hit-and-run crash that landed a san francisco police officer in surveil. surveillance video released today shows a man running away from the crash scene at broadway and montgomery -- near montgomery at 2:20 sunday morning. investigators believe it's this man, one of their own, officer christopher kohrs. he owns the damage charger that hit two men in a crosswalk leaving them badly injured. >> we hold ourselves to a higher standard as police officers, and you don't like to see anything like that happen. >> the kohrs turned himself in eight hours after the accident which could complicate efforts to determine whether he was driving under the influence. both victims are in their 40s, and one suffered a broken jaw and a broken leg. people living in san francisco's castro and knowy

valley neighborhoods are feeling relief. police have caught at prowler seen here on surveillance video casing their homes apparently for more. sergio quintana spoke with police and is live with more on this. sergio? >> reporter: dan, that wig-wearing prowler was arrested in the tenderloin today along with a lot of items that police believe were stolen. this is an investigation that is still open because police believe this prowler may be connected to a series of break-ins across the city. residents in knowy valley and the castros say the wirg-wearing prowler has been caught on camera several times. >> this person is definitely active and so when we see somebody work an area for burglaries or for crimes, we see them usually hit an area until they get caught or spooked enough where they go somewhere else. >> reporter: over the last few days neighbors posted several videos of this prowler casing

homes. >> doesn't look some lysz a prowler but has another person following around probably protecting them. >> reporter: another neighbor told me by phone but declined to be on camera. the prowler was in his home a few weeks at 5:00 in the morning and was chased out. police say the intruder is facing a number charges. >> as we're trying to investigate different crimes and when they might have been involved in, those are still pending. >> reporter: based on all the surveillance video neighbors say this person has been working the area for several months. and this case remains open, and police are hoping that anyone who recognizes that wig-wearing prowler will call them because they want to see if they can connect him to any other break-ins and also they want to see if they can track down that possible accomplice that was featured in one of those surveillance video. reporting live at police headquarter, i'm sergio quintana, nbc 7 news. >> the rain and cold will not go away. today's storm brought light rain this morning to several spots, including the valley, just

the santa clara department probation area and the department of family and services area. police are asking for any possible victims to please come forward. police are searching for a person who stole 26 mountain bikes from a san francisco school over the holiday weekend. they were being kept in a shed at visitation valley middle school and someone broke through a sky light and broebt lock and took every single bike inside. kids used them for p.e. class as a way to exercise while having fun. >> kids are dealing with all the things they are dealing with in a neighborhood like this and come to school for a little bit of solace and a little bit of fun and add venture. i mean, it's devastating. >> the bikes are worth more than $9,000. school leaders set up a go fund me page today to help pay for the loss. so far no one has donated. if you want to be first we're putting link at nbc 7.com. the search is under way for a stolen violin taken during a recent car break-in in san francisco.

it's a 200-year-old instrument. it's a treasure to the family and the college student who lost it desperately wants it back. abc 7 news report eer cornell barnard is in the newsroom with the story >> reporter: family is desperate to get the violin back. the young owner is now speaking out sending a message to the thief who stole it. >> just give it back and return it. >> reporter: 20-year-old erica was make hag plea for the return of something precious. ♪ erica's a master at the piano, but her first love of music is the violin. ♪ not just any violin but this rare instrument which she played at a recital several years ago. it's so precious erica even gave it a name. >> i named it elizabeth. it has a name. it's like something that i real made my own >> reporter: elizabeth the violin was made in london in the early 1800s.

it's valued at about $20,000, but on november 20th, it was stolen from a car at safeway parking lot on webster street in san francisco after it had been loaned to a family friend for a music school audition. erica is devastated. >> it's something that i really didn't appreciate having taken from me. >> reporter: from the family. >> definitely. >> reporter: violin pretty hard to miss, inside this bright red shiny case. >> i've been kind of stressing, like this big sentimental issue of really wanted to pass on this violin to my children. my dad passed it on to me. >> reporter: sadly the violin was not insured. san francisco police are working the case and need help from the public. erica is studying music back east at dartmouth college and hopes to be reunited with elizabeth by the time she returns to class after the holiday break. >> offering a reward of $1,000 with no questions asked if someone would return it to us. >> reporter: and return the sweet music of this violin to its owner.

as world leaders meet in paris to talk about what could be a historic climate change deal, several big names in the tech industry have pledged to do their part. microsoft founder bill gates, facebook ceo mark zuckerberg have organized the brewing energy coalition. it's going to help pay for new technology that can meet world's shifting energy needs while they are reducing the burden on the environment. zuckerberg said on facebook today we won't be able to make meaningful progress on other challenges like educating or connecting the world without secure energy and a stable climate. well, what happens this week in paris could mean money flowing into the bay area.

exciting to see. >> reporter: in san jose, katie utehs. on this cyber monday internet traffic has been clogged all way dong, shoppers hoping to get 50% all off all target merchandise. the national retail federation estimates 121 million shoppers are use e-commercial today. target.com reports traffic is twice as high as it was yesterday. and everybody is clicking on the buy buttons online so robots and warehouse workers are making sure that we all actually get what we ordered. the amazon fulfillment center in tracy is having one of its busiest days. the facility is the size of nearly 20 football fields. a unique look behind the scenes from that center and that story from amy hollyfield snau place your order and this is what you kick into action and on cyber

monday employees say they rarely see a break. courtney will work a 12-hour shift today to keep up with the demand. >> it's a lot busier and have kind of gotten it down. >> reporter: national retail federation is actually predicting that shaels might be a bit slower this cyber monday than last year because people now shop online all weekend. the idea of waiting until monday is becoming a thing of the past. amazon executives say they now think of cyber monday as a season, not a day. >> we're not seeing the same thing that we saw a couple years ago where people come to work and turn on their commuters and want to shop in the morning and people have wi-fi all day. >> reporter: and they still think today will be huge. >> last year in cyber monday it was our busiest day of the year. amazon customers ordered 43 million products worldwide. >> they have brought in robots to help handle the demand. the robots move five feet per second and can carry 750 pounds. >> basically what they are doing is picking up shelves and moving

them to associates standing at ergonomic work stations. >> this is the first season that amazon has had these in all of its 13 facilities. some of the orders were placed today and they are already shipping out so cyber monday may be slowing down and still very busy. amazon is predicting they will see 500 orders per second tate. amy hollyfield, nbc 7 news. >> shipping shopping online is easier than ever. >> michael finney is here with what you need to know. >> yes. cyber monday, very big with shoppers and also very, very big with criminal. they like it as much as we do. there are ways, however, to protect yourself on line like shop only on secure websites. watch out for fake e-mail campaigns that takes you to a site that doesn't include the name of the store or e-mail that asks you for personal information. avoid making purchases in public wi-fi hot spots and review your

bank and credit card statements for unusual transactions. brick and mortar retailers are fighting back against cyber monday offering a week of sales. for instance, pop-up sales with deep discounts on individual items and other retailers have similar plans and considering how slow back friday was there,year, i expect even more sales coming up. by the way, tomorrow is giving tuesday. adobe has crunched the online numbers and say average donations double on that day. new year's eve ranked highest in online giving, eight times higher than on an average day. amazon has released a video of its latest drone prototype. the onlike retailer hopes it will deploy the drone as part of its prime air service using the unmanned aerial devices to deliver packages in under 30 minutes. they ply under 400 feet and use

half moon bail. our highs today only in the upper 40s and lower 50s. liver more's high was 49 degrees. and you'll -- looking towards the embarcadero and 49 in concord and 48 in emoriville. you'll be seeing quite a bit of cloud cover and dryer and milder and looking for wet, windy conditions. the weak system really produced a few light showers and sprinkles. we'll keep in the scattered sprinkles for the next hour or two and then it's good. at cold storm woman on later this week, nothing to do with el nino. it won't be enhance the by el nino but will kick up the winds. gusts to 40 miles per hour. we're seeing, 55-mile-an-hour

winds around the coast and winds on the gusty side as we head towards thursday afternoon just before the storm moves in. trees could go down and may see power outages and just ahead of that, watch out for that. the rain holds off until later on in the morning 11:00 a.m. thursday. we start to see some rain and picks up in coverage at 2:00 p.m. we head towards p.m. and we'll still see some scattered showers going into thursday night. look at the bay area rainfall totals and the highest totals upped to the north and thursday night will bring snow to the sierra nevadas. tomorrow morning we won't see the 20s we saw this morning, chilly and low 30s and mid-40s so bundle up and on tuesday 60 degrees in san jose this.

a cruise ship that left san francisco friday lost power today near hawaii. "the grand princess" was 20 miles off the coast of hilo when princess called a significant failure. the ship had limited backup power for several hours and everything appears to be repaired and back to normal now. more potential problems for san francisco-based wells fargo bank. according to sources two separate federal agencies are investigating whether the bank pushed its employees too hard to meet sales cutos while not doing enough to address questionable
