there is probably going to be gridlock around the city. >> this one game translates into three weeks of traffic challenges in san francisco. justin herman plaza is the setting for a free super bowl city from january 30th through february 7th. that fan village will close to traffic between beil and stewart streets. on the same dates there is the nfl experience, closing howard street between three ready and 4th and part of the block between 4th and 5th. planners say don't drive, take public transit. >> the lines have

knocked into a power pole before stopping. a man rushed over to help rescue the truck driver. >> he didn't know where he was, so just sit down and talk to the police. everything is going to be okay. >> the driver kicked out of the cab. it's believed the brakes may have failed. abc7 news learned a san francisco police officer is charged with two felony counts of hit and run. one of the men seriously injured from the accident is speaking from his hospital bed to melanie woodrow. she is live with his story. melanie? >> reporter: the officer will be arraigned on those charges on thursday. a source close to the investigation tells me that he was out in a fisherman's wharf area, saturday night prior to the accident that happened around 2:20.

there are two victims, both men in their 40s. one has a broken neck, jaw, and broken nose. the other victim, victor perez tells me he's lucky to be alive. victor perez's face is covered in bruises, his jaw, broken and his leg, broken. >> i'm glad i'm here. >> from his hospital bed, he gave an interview. >> i'm getting better but very sore. and just taking it day by day. >> he says he knows the person accused of hitting him and his friend is a san francisco police officer known as the hot cop of castro. . >> i couldn't believe it. >> neither could his brother. >> accidents happen. okay. but to run away, that is what is repugnant. >> reporter: you can see one person running in the opposite

direction. it's unclear whether it is the police officer. the passengers remained on the scene. a source close to the investigation says one was officer's brother, the chief says investigators did an immediate search in the area but he wasn't to be found. >> his personal cell phone was in the vehicle. >> chief suhr says the officer turned himself in eight hours later. george gascone says he expects the time line to be a challenge. >> how do we prove in front of a jury this individual was, or not, under the influence of a mind-altering lug or alcohol? >> perez says he learned some witness who's stood over him thought the worst. >> i mean just thought we were dead. for someone to have done this, and see that, just to

and good evening to you. this store, one of two crime scenes, the store here just reopened and shoppers telling us they're grateful for the great response from police. san jose police responded to a call of a moon who reported his vehicle had been stolen. the police caught up with the stolen vehicle on blossom hill road and the suspect ran into vehicles on the roadway. >> a struck a police officer vehicle. shots were fired in the direction of the suspect vehicle. >> the driver kept going and ran unside and tried to hide. >> i just saw him speeding and police behind it. and when i came around, it was

pulled up in the front. >> i was just telling people let's go. there is an emergency. you know? everybody looked confused and didn't know what is going on. >> shoppers doing their best to keep their cool. >> when we got out, that is when it hit everybody. >> these pictures provided by a news viewer at the scene. the suspect has been taken to the hospital with unknown injuries. in san jose, chris nguyen, abc7 news. investigators are looking for the cause of a fire in a used auto parts business in the east bay. a lot of people noticed the smoke around richmond. three vehicles were burning at that time. the good news is no one was hurt. two armed robbers who shot a

store clerk and took off with cash didn't get very far. they are identified and both from pitsberg. they were arrested after a robbery on lone tree way. the man they're accused of shooting is in critical condition. abc7 news spoke with the co-worker who says the two tried to shoot him but the gun jammed. >> the family of a young woman who was stabbed to death say they feel sorry for the man accused of killing their daughter reading our hearts are broken at the loss of our beautiful daughter we cannot help but feel sorrow for his parents as they suffer the loss of a son just as we suffer the loss of a daughter. s.w.a.t. officers took the 22-year-old into custody, he is expected to make a court appearance tomorrow to face charges he killed straw, who was his girlfriend.

action on december 15th. in walnut creek, abc7 news. >> tonight in alameda, city leaders will discuss a rent crisis that became so heated last month, two arrested. the city council talked about the possibility of rent control. tonight, they'll take up the issue again and discuss rules that may allow land lords to evict tenants during that moratorium. the city council will discuss another contentious issue. rising rents made it unaffordable for many families to stay in their hometown, a coalition that will call on the city council to enact a policy. >> let's move on and talk about the weather. it's chilly out there. >> yes and maybe some rain this week. >> yes. rain and wind.

the drought is affecting at pg&e we've definitely put a focus on helping our agricultural customers through the drought. when they do an energy efficiency project and save that money they feel it right in their pocket book. it's exciting to help a customer with an energy efficiency project because not only are they saving energy but they are saving water. we have a lot of projects at pg&e that can help them with that and that's extremely important while we're in a drought. it's a win for the customer and
