>> live from the kgo-tv broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> a mind blowing surprise. in a letter to their newborn daughter facebook founder mark zuckerburg and his wife pricilla say they are celebrating her birth with a $45 billion donation. i'm dan ashley. >> and i'm ama daetz. the couple are pledging 99% of their facebook chairs to charity. they say it is to make the world a better place for their daughter and the next generation. >> tonight the philanthropic community has more. it is safe to say that the philanthropic community is impressed. >> indeed. they previously pledged to give half of their assets, so today's announcement that they are giving nearly all their wealth has stunned just about everyone. mark zuckerburg and pricilla chan are now proud parents of a little girl named max. they posted this photo on facebook and with it a letter

"max, we love you and feel a great responsibility to leave the world a better place for you and all children." >> the only way we reach our full human potential is if we are able to unlock the gift of every person around the world. >> the zuckerburgs plan to give 99% of their facebook shares over the course of their lives darr waves their $1.6 billion to charitable causes including the $75 million to san francisco general hospital and $15 million to san francisco's private school start up. >> $45 million is an enormous amount of money to fuel initiatives that wouldn't have otherwise started. >> the zuckerburgs are certainly breaking the stereo types as tech leaders who gained a reputation for holding back on charitable giving. the founder and ceo of the nonprofit tipping point community hopes this is the start of a trend. >> we have great role models here in the bay area.

we have others that can do the same thing. we hope they can step up as well. >> a call to action set in motion by the birth of a child. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> yahoo! shares are spiking on word the company may sell its core business. the stock closed at $36.09 a share in after hours trading, up 7%. it comes after a "wall street journal" report that the board of directors will begin considering selling off its core advertising and search business. yahoo! stock has been falling in in -- and several key executives have left. >> three dozen households in loss altos are being told to boil their water because of possible e-coli contamination. the advice wassish you ad after a contractor hit the watermain and a waste water line. the advisory includes homes on fallen leaf lane and lantis lane and holt avenue. the water is said to be safe

for showering and bathing. the advisory will be in affect until test results show the water is safe to drink. also new at 11:00, the alameda city council raped in >> reined in a landlord. it happened days after the council passed a temporary ordinance aimed at protecting tenants from rising rents. abc7 news reporter katie utis is live with more on renters. katie? >> we are seeing the battles being waged across the bay area. tonight the alameda city council made a real step toward real rental protections. remember the near riots over rent control at the november alameda city council meeting? a temporary ordinance came out of it. but a landlord found a loophole. >> he was exploited in an attempt to evict people for basically no reason. >> people received eviction

notices claiming renovations were necessary. >> it is something rental advocates called a tactic. >> basic renovations, there is no need. people go through renovations all the time. >> they agreed. >> this section will be deleted from the ordinance. >> the council voted unanimously to do so. wiping out the eviction notices for some 34 units at bay view. nobody spoke out in opposition. still other renters wait for long-term protections. >> every night they tell me are we going to stay in this house tomorrow? the -- >> the renters coalition has a ballot initiative next week. council may vote on a permanent ordinance in early january. in alameda, abc7 news. >> stop the greed in walnut creek. >> tonight abc7 news was in

walnut creek as demonstrators marched against a proposed housing development. the developer wants to build 53 single family homes. the protesters handed a petition with 1,000 signatures to the city council demanding the project be shutdown. many live just outside the city limits, but they are afraid the development is close enough to impact their country lifestyle. the develop -- the developer said they reduced the density. new tonight investigators said two men who briefly escaped custody in santa rosa are brothers who were in court earlier today. sky 7hd was above the sonoma county jail where they ran away while being loaded on to a transport bus. deputies found them a half hour later. he pled guilty to domestic violence. tonight we have learned the body found in a concord park is a 16-year-old boy. detectives say he is louis

estrada from martinez. somebody walking in hillcrest park discovered the body last night about midnight. police say the boy was shot to death. this is the city's fourth homicide since september. the detectives are investigating if there is a connection or ties to a gang rivalry perhaps. and new details on the stolen car, police pursuit and the gunfire that ended at an unlikely place, a toy story. it started this afternoon in san jose when a driver reported a stolen car. police soon spotted the car and that's where abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian is with the rest of the story. lisa? >> dan, the store shutdown for hours and reopened at around 6:00 tonight. it is not clear why the chase ended here, but a friend of the victim whose car was stolen told them they helped police by using an app on their iphone that helped track the stolen ipads that were in the stolen car. >> the suspect dumped the

bullet riddled suburban outside the toys r us and ran into the store to hide. police say he had already crashed into two cars and a police cruiser after stealing the suv from a parking lot in front of the pump it up kids zone. >> shots were fired in the direction of the suspect vehicle. >> the suspect kept driving and abruptly stopped here. this is a photo of the suspect just moments after police found him. >> they caught him. they brought him out. and i was watching the whole thing and it looked like he was shot in the rib cage. >> police have not con officialed if the suspect was shot, but with a store full of customers people were scared. >> i definitely was not -- it was not a crime like this, not here. >> if i was here at the time i would be scared totally. i would be scared for the people in there, especially the customers and the kids. >> no one in the store was hurt, but police did warn the

boyfriend of the woman whose car was stolen to stay away. he was the one originally following the suspect through a tracking app. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. sky 7hd shows us an accident that shutdown part of highway 101 for nearly seven hours. an out of control dump truck hit two cars. it then slammed into a railing spilling its load on to the highway below. on top of that, take a look at this dangerous situation. the truck also plowed into a light pole. all southbound leans reopened at about 3:30 this afternoon. the so-called "hot cop of castro" is getting ready for his first court appearance to answer hit-and-run charges. >> for someone who have -- to have done this shows i don't know what kind of judgment. >> for the first time we are hearing from one of the men seriously injured in the weekend crash. >> and spying on students?

campbell and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> tonight abc7 news has learned the so-called "hot cop of the castro" is now charged with two felony counts of hit-and-run. one of the men seriously injured in the weekend accident in san francisco is now speaking from his hospital bed. here is reporter melanie woodrow with the story you will see only on abc7 news. >> victor perez's face is covered in bruises. his jaw is broken in three places and his leg is also broken. >> i am glad that i am here. >> from his hospital bed perez gave his first interview. >> i am getting better, but really sore. i was taking it day by day. >> he says he now knows the person accused of hitting him and his friend and ditching this dodge charger is a san francisco police officer known as the hot cop of castro. >> they couldn't believe it. >> neither could his brother. >> accidents happen. but to run away, that's it.

>> in the surveillance video you can see people running toward the scene. one person is running in the opposite direction. it is unclear whether or not it is officer christopher cores running away. >> he had passengers who both said he was the driver. >> they said the passenger reis mained on the -- remained on the scene. a source close to the investigation said one was the officer's brother. they say investigators did an immediate search of the area and he was no where to be found. >> his cell phone was left in the vehicle. >> he turned himself in more than eight hours later timing that will impact the sobriety tests of the george gascone expects the time line to be a great challenge. >> how do we prove in front of a jury that the individual was or not under the influence of a mind altering drug or alcohol? >> victor perez says he has learned some witnesses who stood over him thought the

worst. >> i thought they were completely dead. for someone to have done this and to flee, i mean that shows i don't know what kind of judgment. >> the officer was on medical leave before the accident. if he is cleared to return he would be suspended. if he is found guilty of felony hit-and-run he would likely lose his job. in san francisco, melanie woodrow, abc7 news. google has been accused of spying on young students for marketing purposes. the electronic frontier foundation filed a complaint with the sec. they say google ricked the chrome book computers so they could find out what kid in kindergarten are searching and watching on-line. it would violate a student privacy pledge. google said they are following the laws correctly. signs of solitaire tee and support and strength can be seen across san francisco during this the 22nd annual world aids day. >> new at 11:00, abc7 news was

at san francisco city hall. the building is awash in red. it is a color signifying solidarity and those affected by the disease. >> earlier a show of support and stories of survival shared at the aids memorial grove at san francisco's golden gate park. aids activists say world aids day is important because it reminds the public and the government that much work remains. >> and it was a beautiful day for such a ceremony. >> it was indeed. it was cool and not cold. sandhya patel is here with what's ahead. >> dan and ama, the temperatures did come up this afternoon, and we will go with a milder day tomorrow. live doppler 7hd is showing the cloud cover right now. also some sprinkles right around ukiah. nothing is measuring so far, but this system will not bring the rain. another one will bring the rain. temperatures in the 40s and 50s and quite comfortable as you take a look toward san francisco and we don't have any fog. clouds are on the increase. rain intoe and windy and

drying out friday with sunny skies for your saturday. so at least the first half of the weekend is looking fine in terms of getting out and about. partly cloudy tomorrow as this system comes through here. it will just bring us extra clouds. so your sun will get filtered. it is not going to be a bright day. here is what happens. a cold storm is not influenced by el nino and will kick up the winds. thursday morning we expect breezy conditions and the wind gets going at 7:00 a.m. it is getting gusty around 30 to 35 miles an hour. as the winds pick up you will have to be a little careful. especially if you are out and about running errands. 35 to 40 miles an hour late morning still gusty and then as we head toward the afternoon hours the winds will ease up a bit. the winds could take down the power lines and a few trees especially if they are weakened and dry from the recent drought. be aware of your surroundings and also if you have holiday decorations up, you will want to tie those down.

look at the time line of the rain. 7:00 a.m. thursday and we are just looking at cloud cover. 10:00 a.m. is when we start to see moderate to heavy rain moving into the north bay. 11:00 a.m. it is moving to the east bay. by noon pretty much everyone is getting wet in the bay area. 2:00 p.m., still looking at moderate rain to heavy rain and you can't rule out a slight chance of a thunderstorm. by 5:00 p.m. some scattered showers for the evening rush and those light showers will wind down as we head toward the latter part of the evening. our highest totals will be up in the sonoma county area. half an inch to an inch possible in the santa clara valley. a 10th to a quarter of an inch. this will mean snow in the mountains. tahoe will be under a winter weather advisory. the snow level will be dropping down to 5,000 and take a look at some of the snowfall for the resorts. we are looking at half a foot to a foot of snow.

strong winds will accompany the system. if you are thinking of going to the mountains you may want to hold off until friday. first thing in the morning the cloud cover will be heavy, mid30s to the upper 40s. so it is not the chill we have been experiencing. and then for the afternoon milder weather. the cloud cover is heaviest to the north. a little less to the south. 61 san francisco and 65 santa rosa. oakland 64 and livermore and san jose and san mateo and as you check out the accu-weather seven-day forecast we go from mild wednesday to wet and windy thursday. dry on friday and saturday. if you have holiday shopping to do, sunday a slight chance of some showers in the north bay. we repeat that again on monday. that system is looking weaker and weaker and it may entirely miss us and go to the north. ama and dan? >> thank you, sandhya. >> well, still ahead here on abc7 news at 11:00, stuck in the mud. >> the help that was needed to get this
