narrow range, upper 50s from the coast to around oakland. san jose you could see about 60. this morning the fbi is investigating the san bernardino mass shooting as an act of terrorism. woe we just received this new photo of tashfeen malik. brandi hitt has more. >> reporter: this is a first look at tashfeen malik, the of . brandi hitt has more. >> reporter: this is a first look at tashfeen malik, the brain behind the massacre. malik and her husband syed farook bursting into a conference firing 65 rounds, killing 14, most of them farook's colleagues. within moments the 29-year-old mother went on facebook and declared her allegiance to isis. >> shocking. like why would she do that. >> reporter: soon after malik opened fire on police in pursuit of their suv and died with her husband in the shootout that followed. the question now, did she

radicalize him. >> this is now a federal terrorism investigation. >> reporter: the fbi says right now the shooters look like self-starters. >> we have no indication that these killers are part of an organized larger group or form part of a cell. >> reporter: federal agents tore apart the couple's home looking for evidence. inside, remnants of what seems like a typical family's life. dirty dishes, baby toys, diapers. and the crib of their six month old daughter, now an orphan. >> just seemed like normal ordinary people. >> reporter: but this inventory with dozens of boxes of ammunition, 12 pipe bombs also left behind. farook's family warned against a rush to judgment. >> every single muslim leader has come out and said this is not a muslim act. >> reporter: the fbi is combing through a large volume of electronic evidence including two cellphones the killers tried to destroy to find out who they had been communicating with. brandi hitt, san bernardino, california.

remembrances are pouring in about the 14 people killed in the attack. 60-year-old isaac amanios was the oldest victim. >> traveled all the way here from thousands of miles away for a better life. and someone just took it like that after he built what we would consider the american dream. >> here is a look at the faces of all 14 victims, they ranged in age from 26 to 60 and came from all walks of life. ten worked for san bernardino county in different capacities, one victim, harry bowman, previously worked for a think tank at usc. our coverage on the shootings continues now on the abc 7 news app. you can sign up for push alerts for the latest updates. back here at home, a freak accident involving a tree killed an east bay teen.

it happened last night right next to ferry land. alan wong has more. >> reporter: it happened right off the trail next to this sign. a witness says three teens were sitting on this long branch when another 16-year-old boy jumped up and grabbed on to the end of it. the teens fell off and the branch struck the boy in the head. the witness tells me he gave the boy cpr, but he quickly realized there was no hope because it looked like the boy's neck was badly broke. the victim's parents and other adults were at the park celebrating a birthday, all of them gathered and wept. >> it was like, oh, wow. i feel very bad for the family and during the holidays and my prayers go out to them. >> reporter: oakland police say it appears this was all an unfortunate accident. as the boy's body was taken

away, his parents were are given a chance to have a moment with their son. they thanked the police and went home in tears. at lake merritt, alan wong, abc 7. police are searching for a man who stole a package and more from a sunnyvale home. he walked up, grabbed the package and went back to his car, but he wasn't done. he hopped bag out and grabbed two oranges from a bush. it happened thursday afternoon. police say it's a reminder to set up delivery times for when you're home and also report suspicious activity in your neighborhood. a huge pile of stolen mail has been recovered stolen from several homes. more than 1,000 pieces were found during a probation search at a fairfield mail, police say it was stolen from at least 24 mail boxes. investigators are in the process of contacting the victims. >> it's a long process because

we're dealing with that much paperwork, that much mail. and numerous jurisdictions. so our investigators will be working for probably quite some time to search through all the mail. >> police arrested 38-year-old and a 29-year-old for possession of stolen property. forced identification cards and criminal conspiracy. >> you're shopping, walking around, making trips to your car, maybe just running a quick errand. crooks are watching you. but as katie marzullo shows you, you can stop them from stealing your stuff. >> reporter: in 30 seconds, palo alto police hope to impart some wisdom on holiday shoppers. that car burglars are window shopping in the parking lot. >> this is a problem that occurs annually. this problem doesn't go away. property crimes are on the rise regionally. >> reporter: to protect yourself, lock your car and never leave valuables inside.

monday marks the anniversary of tathe attack on pearl harbor. 18 sailors and two civilians were killed. a dozen survivors returned to the attack this week. and they will participate in a remembrance event on monday. a private jet landed smoothly after making a belly landing in palm springs because its landing gear failed. it happened yesterday afternoon. the pilot notified the airport of the issue. officials told the pilot the to circle the area to burn off as much fuel as possible before attempting the belly landing. firefighters quickly put out the smoke, only the pilot and one other person were on board. thankfully neither of them were hurt. tomorrow night in the

nation's capital, some of the biggest names in the arts will be recognized during the kennedy center honors. this year's honorees include carole king, george lucas and cicely tyson. they will be seated with president obama and michelle obama at the opera house stage for the star-studded celebration. the gala will air on december 29. we know el nino is already here because we've seen the satellite images and measured the warmer pacific ocean temperatures. if past years are any indication, it's possible that we'll experience mudslides from the rain saturated ground. but where? as abc 7 reporter wayne freedman reports, during the el nino of 1998, sonoma county residents never saw it coming. >> reporter: a warning sign, remnants from a past and still very much a part of the present for canyon residents. >> right on each side of us, 6 to 8 houses, so about 14 houses in here. >> reporter: the fire chief

walking through the ghost of a neighborhood laid to waste the night of february 6, 1998. it was the el nino signature moment. >> the mud channeled down this 500-foot tall mountain. it came this way. before long, it was 4 feet deep, hundreds of yards wide and still moving. slowly. mae was 15 years old the night of the slide. it put both her and her mother on the front pages of newspapers and in television news stories. it also cost them pretty much everything they had except each other. two women awakened by the sound of moving mud snapping giant trees into pieces. >> there was a long, long history, long ago, long before the neighborhood was even there, of mudslides and small mudslides in the canyons and on top of the hills, which we were unaware of.

inches of rain, extreme flooding and power outages. so we are expecting impact tomorrow to be very light on a scale of 1. so not all of you will see the rain coming down. in fact most of you you could sleep through it. but we will have some wind, anywhere from about 10 to 20-mile-per-hour southerly winds out ahead of this system tonight. so here is live doppler 7 hd where the cloud cover is with us. it extends all the way to the north. but this is where the rain is from portland to seattle. and this is really bringing a lot of rain and energy. just a piece of that will visit us tomorrow morning. it will be out here by noontime and we will be looking at calmer conditions and in fact dry conditions for the first port of next week. 38 in morgan hill, 46 half moon bay. and view from our east bay

apple and samsung have finally reached an agreement in a long running patent case. samsung says it would pay apple $548 million following a 2012 decision that found it violated key apple patents, claims include the way users interact with app wear and design concepts, but apple also wants samsung to pay nearly $2 million in court costs, something samsung says it will not do. divorce rumors are circling around a you power couple. reports claim beyonce and jay-z are planning to part ways for good. the duo has reportedly had other problems including a recent report they had a big fight in fromts of their home staff. this is not the first time they have faced divorce rumors. last sum are there were reports of fighting and jealousy.

but chilly. a few peek of sun, but the numbers will be on the cool side. upper 50s to near 60. some warmer locations with a little more sun, maybe 60, 61 in the south bay and we'll look for rain to arrive this time tomorrow. we'll detail it coming up. now to the shooting rampage in southern california. from housewife to killer, we're learning more about the woman who police say pledged her allegiance to isis. authorities revealed tashfeen malik posted that pledge on facebook during the shoot-out she carried out with her husband syed farook. as a result it's being investigate as an act of terrorism. the fbi is taking over the investigation from the san bernardino police department and the heightened alert following the shooting led to a suspension of all operations at a u.p.s. building in san bernardino last night. someone sent a suspicious package addressed to gunman syed

farook. the facility was temporarily evacuated as a precaution. and we also have an inside look now at their redlands apartment the couple called home. reggie aqui shows us what was left behind. >> reporter: she was a college graduate known as a brilliant student, turned wife, turned mother, turned accused killer. that great disconnect didn't become any easier to understand once you stepped inside her house. anyone looking for a reason why the suspected shooters may have killed didn't get their answer. while walking inside the red lands home, the couple rented since may. >> why did you decide to allow people to go in? >> i hoped it up because i had to take pictures of the damage and stuff for myself. for insurance purposes. >> reporter: he found signs of a police raid and otherwise evidence of a family looking like they intended to come back. >> it seemed like they were regular human beings.

>> after an hour of letting anyone coming in, they're telling us to leave. before, you can see a koran, forms. receipt from a home depot. >> reporter: what we didn't see, the massive amount of ammunition and bombs police took away. they weren't being tracked by the fbi. we now know they met on and online dating site. farook an american, malik on a spousal visa, so far no proof that anyone was directing him there abroad. but what about in the home, who was calling the shots? >> i don't know the answer, whether she influenced him or not, we're all influenced to an extent, but i don't know the answer. >> that was reggie aqui reporting. the six month old is with child protective services and could be

after the shooting death of a 26-year-old san francisco man. that shooting was caught on camera. critics of the police say it proves the use of force by officers was unjustified. cornell barnard tells us what some are demanding from the police chief. >> you need to be taken out of office. >> reporter: which were cheers when someone demanded the police chief be fired. the emotions spilled over in this meeting after the death of mario wood this week by officers. >> this isn't protecting. >> reporter: the chief tried to explain to the crowd the chain of events leading up to the shooting, but he was shouted down. >> when mr. wood advanced toward him, he fired in defense of himself. >> reporter: mario wood was a suspect in a stabbing on wednesday. officers later found him holding a 6-inch knife.

they told him several times to drop the weapon. nonlethal bean bags were fired. when that failed, multiple officers fired a barrage of bullet, killing wood. all captured on cellphone video. some called it an execution. >> there is no reason. he ain't got nothing but a knife. shoot him in the leg. >> reporter: the chief says he understands why the community is angry. >> maybe we need other tools in our tool box that are short of deadly force. we need to look at all of this because i don't want this to ever happen again. >> reporter: wood's son says her son suffered from mental health issues and was trying to overcome them. cornell barnard, abc 7. firefighters and officers

responding to a hazmat industry in fremont had to be taken to the hospital. they responded to the scientific research lab yesterday afternoon where smoke was pouring from a truck. investigators said four kinds of acid inside a drum had a chemical reaction and started spewing out gas. 11 buildings had to be evacuated. a hazmat crew diluted the chemicals with water and worked to clean up the area. firefighters and officers were checked out and should be okay. the turf war at the golden gate park far from over? after the break, the way opponents of aing soer field may be trying to revive a controversial issue. the time is 6:37. here is a live look outside.

we want to explain something that we will be doing throughout the entire storm subpoen. . >> we have a chart where we will rank each storm. the first is a very small storm with anywhere from less than half inch of rain and lasting just a couple hour before number two is moderate with with half inch to inch of rain. three is strong storm, 1 to 2 inch, widespread hazardous roads and mean or minor flooding.

4 is moderate rain and the most severe with 3 inches of storm with extreme floods, you power outages for several days. back to number one, that is what is headed our way tomorrow. it will be very light. trace amounts in the south bay. most of it will fall overnight. cloud cover right now, we'll see a few peek of sun. and the main impact in the next several days, it has been in the pacific northwest with lots of rain and wind. and a little piece of energy from this cold upper level low will visit us tomorrow and then we will get another chance of more moderate rain. in fact maybe a decent storm by thursday. so there is our roof camera with the cloud cover. 48 san francisco, low 40s oakland and mountain view. we're dropping in to the upper 30s in some neighborhoods. morgan hill, you're at 39.

and from mt. tam, nice start with always bet of sun there. 37. fairfield, livermore. 38 santa rosa. so highlights then for the next 24 to 36 hours featuring increasing clouds today, rain late tonight into tomorrow. and then a chance of rain heads our way maybe late tuesday with the main impact wednesday and perhaps into thursday. so right now we're looking at the cloud cover and we'll stay dry. season able rain, upper 50s to low 60s. but by the overnight hours, here comes the rain. it will come down in earnest in the north bay by about 4:00 from santa rosa to cloverdale. and then it moves quickly through the rest of the bay area. 8:00. we've got rain on the peninsula, but it will take some time to get there and by the time it does, it begins to wash up. 7:00, 8:00 in the east bay, peninsula, south bay, you'll be lucky to get a couple hundredths out of this.
