further east. around the san ramon valley, just north of pleasanton and higher elevations around mt. diablo should be wet. and we will tell you how long it's going to last and a a more significant rain and extended outlook coming up, carolyn. >> lisa, thank you. now to the latest in the san bernardino attack. now to the latest in the san bernardino attack. the investigators think the wife may have had weapons training and she may have had connections to a isis recruiter. well have the latest. >> still so many questions, but this new video could answer where the assault rifles used in the san bernardino massacre came from. police stated they knew syed farook and his wife tashfeen malik purchased the handguns and the third party bought the rifles. authorities now tell abc news, they believe the third party is

a former neighbor of farook. >> syed farook is not available. >> farook's voice can still be heard on a mobile messaging system and investigators are looking to see if he left behind twitter messages linking him to a notorious isis recruiter, an fbi fugitive, mohamed ssan, who uses an online handle. s the same man who attacked an exhibition in garland, texas. tweeting to his american followers then, "it's time for brothers in the u.s. to do their part." >> it ended with both attackers being killed. >> meanwhile, in an online posting isis praised the farook and the attack. the mother-turned-murderer was the mastermind, leaving her family baffled. >> how could you do something like this?

at least think about your kid. >> and president obama will address the nation sunday night. he will give an update on the investigation and outline what the government is doing to keep americans safe. abc news, new york. >> the president will address the nation on the attack in san bernardino today at 5:00 this evening our time. he's also expected to discuss the broader threat of terrorism, how it's evolved and how he believes we will defeat it. you can watch president obama live right here on abc7. this morning concord police are looking for a gunman who shot a person yesterday afternoon. it was on highway 242 yesterday afternoon. the driver is recovering in the hospital. traffic was backed up hours. police saying 911 calls came in about a person in a silver s.u.v. opening fire on another s.u.v. abc7 news reporter sergio

quintana has the details. >> concord police arrived within minutes of the 911 calls and shut down highway 242. drivers were diverted off the freeway. as police combed over the asphalt looking for clues that may help down the shooter, the victim was able to call himself -- to drive himself to the hospital in concord. >> the victim was struck a couple times to his upper body. there were gunshot holes on the left side of his vehicle. >> officers talked to him briefly before he went into emergency surgery, but he was only able to give minimal information about what happened and so far only a couple other witnesses described a white s.u.v. opening fire on the victim's gold mercedes-benz s.u.v. police are hoping to connect with more witnesses. >> the freeway at that time was probably packed with cars and there were probably multiple witnesses that saw what happened but didn't want to call or report it. we strongly urge them to call the dispatch center because we would love to talk to them. >> the highway was shut down as they conducted their investigation.

it was re-opened before 6:30. they don't have a motive and don't know if it's connected to s other freeway shootings that have happened recently in the east bay. in concord, sergio quintana, abc7 news. in san francisco the naacp will hold a press conference on the police shooting last week of mario woods. police say they want the community to come to together to bring a calm response to the issue in the city. and they want community members to work together to find solutions rather than violence. s the meeting is set for tomorrow night at 6:00 at the third baptist church on mcallister street. >> we are hearing of friends of an oakland teenager after a tragic accident took his life. it happened friday you night on the shores of lake merritt where he and his friends were celebrating a birthday. s abc7 news reporter cornell

barnard has the details. >> he was a really, really great guy. >> reporter: clair brook is dealing with the unbelievable loss of her good friend, jack lewis. >> it just doesn't feel really real at this point. >> she and jack came to lake merritt friday afternoon to celebrate a friend's birthday. the group was hanging out by the lake. some were climbing trees. >> there were three people sitting on the branch and jack just jumped up to hang on it, and it fell. >> police say the 16-year-old was crushed by the enormous weight of the tree limb that broke off, killing lewis. cards and flowers are left by the site. >> he was so full of life and joy and he never had anything bad to say about anything. >> jack lewis was a junior at oakland tech. a guidance counselor told me the school staff was notified about the tragedy. she said that lewis was thinking about going to college. >> he was a super handsome dude.

he was super nice to me. every time i saw him he was super happy to see me and super happy to see everyone. >> i'm so sorry for his family. >> some parents say many trees have been impacted by the drought. >> i go up to diamond park with my son a lot and i see a lot of the trees kind of dying, so i get more concerned about it. >> the city said public work crews will examine the tree to find a possible cause of why the large branch broke off. in oakland. abc7 news. >> a fire gutted a home and killed more than a dozen animals in san jose. that was yesterday afternoon. no one was hurt but two dogs died. the family also raises chickens and 11 chicks perished, as well. it took about 45 minutes to put out the fire. investigators are working to find the cause. a man who helped make kitchenware cool has passed away. chuck williams, founder of

william sonoma, died of natural causes at his home in san francisco yesterday. you are looking at video of the tribute posted on the company's website. sonoma said a trip to paris inspired him to open a store in downtown sonoma back in 1956 using the same cookware used by top european chefs. two years later he moved to a larger store in san francisco, and then expanded nationwide. he sold the company back in 1979, but he remained involved. chuck williams was 100 years old. happening today, bikers will be hopping on their motorcycles for a good cause as part of its annual toy run. bikers from the golden gate harley club will deliver gifts to sick children at san francisco general hospital and trauma center. this is the 32nd year for the annual event. bikers will revv up their engines at 10:30 this morning

landing and then skidded off the runway. only the pilot and 78-year-old actor were on board. neither were hurt. two men are in critical condition after a coworker doused them with gasoline and afternoon in maryland. >> he threw the gas on him and caught him on fire. it happened so quick. >> it happened on the highway near rush hour. >> the one victim received gurns over 90% of his body. his clothes were burned off of him at the scene. our second victim received burns to over 60% of his body. >> police say 28-year-old christopher harrison started the fire. harrison worked with the victim. anthony rodriguez works for the same company. he said harrison had an ongoing dispute with one of the victims, they kept pushing him, pushing him, saying they wanted to fight him. >> they agreed to settle it of

there was nothing besides that was said. even leading up to the altercation they both took their shirts off and they appeared like they were going to fight. >> david posted his video online. >> we did receive this video. we have that video as evidence that we will use to further our investigation and hopefully assist the prosecution of this case. >> as the investigation continues, a group of one of the victim's friends is doing what they can to help him heel. >> he might not be able to work when he comes out and i kind of wanted him to have a little bit of money set aside for him so he would be able to get on his feet and recover. >> that was vanessa herring reporting. police have been charged with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment. >> take a look a at this drone video of flooding in the united kingdom. this is in the down of kindl where an elderly man fell in the water today. crews are looking for anyone else who might still be in the floodwater. the storm is threatening

and back here, not much. redwood city. but we go further south and it really falls apart through sunnyvale and cupertino. and the sierra nevada rain-snow mix right now. mid-and upper 30s. and nice shot for you with beautiful cloud cover there and a little bit of snow. one to two inches expected throughout the day with this system. not much, but enough to show you down. 56 mountain view, good morning. 47 in morgan hill. numbers ranging from the 50s. and mild with the south wind. breezy at times and not great if you are out for a run or walking the dog. it should get more widely scattered throughout the day. dry in san jose. scattered showers, looking for partly clouding and mild conditions tomorrow and into tuesday 60s return, no rain on thursday. into friday and next weekend. so high surf warning with big-time waves, 16 to 19 feet.

>> generosity? or an excuse to toss trash? the city of san leandro said they need the public's help in cutting down on the number of donation bins around town. our abc7 news reporter, katie, shows how some are becoming dumping grounds. >> people dumping whatever they want in and around them. s. >> reporter: many donation locations are now dumping locations in san leandro. s >> really messy. >> dozens of bins have been placed across the city, four in one parking lot. >> this woman works near the restaurant at washington s avenue. >> anything you can imagine is right there. they leave it there and don't put it in the bin. >> discarded mattress, broken glass, even pet waste, all in

front of a donation bin that's a for-profit recycling company based out of oakland. >> following public complaints the city is trying to weed out the unpermitted bins, said the assistant city manager. >> many have become havens for illegal dumping and appear to be blighted. >> only two organizations with 17 bins combined have gone through the proper permitting and approval process. the locations on the map. >> we believe there are many unpermitted, but we don't know where they are all located. >> we've seen this before in other bay area cities but san leandro wants to be notified of the locations so they can tackle the mess. some say they will take the s items to vetted nonprofits. >> we have some in down, the davis community center. >> and in the meantime they are forced to handling the clean-up. >> abc7 news. es. >> knew this morning.

really all throughout the bay except for the south bay. in the north bay you will notice that around middletown, a sweep on top of mount st. helena getting wet. with guyserville. these folks picked up over half-inch of rain through the 34:00 hour. more showers spreading up toward i80, the delta, american canyon and vallejo. light activity throughout san rafael, mill valley, over 580 and richmond. hayward, union city, outward the san ramon valley. a little bit of shower activity and we don't want to forget about the peninsula and into the dumbarton bridge and the san mateo bridge where the activity has been light. san jose, can't forget about you, you are dry. carolyn. >> thank you, lisa. new this morning, at least six businesses have been damaged in the north bay after a two-alarm fire broke out early this morning. fire officials say it started at the cigarettes cheaper store in petaluma.

it spread to others in the complex. some of those businesses are also without power right now. the cause of the fire is under investigation. now to the latest in the san bernardino shootings. the fbi raided a home yesterday next door to where suspect syed farook's family used to live in riverside. one neighbor said that an old friend of farooks lived in the house, and more than three years ago that person bought the two assault weapons used in the shootings. but authorities have not talked to him because he checked himself into a mental hospital after the attack. the fbi says he's not a suspect, but they do want to question him. >> it was like 3:00 in the morning. i got woken up by it. it sound like a voice coming from the loudspeaker and that's when i saw a big unmarked s.u.v. and that's where the sirens and lights were coming from.

one single voice over a loudspeaker. >> the fbi says there's evidence that extreme planning before that shooting. the president will address the nation on the attack at 5:00 p.m. this afternoon. he's also expected to address the broader threat of terrorism, how it's evolved and how he believes how the u.s. will defeat it. you can watch the president live right here on abc7. s. >> the president of liberty university, a christian college in virginia, is urging all his students to arm themselves because of the mass shooting. he made the comments during the school's weekly convocation. he said if more people had conceal carry permits, they could, quote, end those muslims before they walk in and kill. he later clarified he wasn't talking about all muslims, just those who plan attacks. new this morning, u.s. authorities are warning of an imminent security threat to the american consulate in istanbul

and they are warning citizens to avoid the area. they are not saying what the threat is or who may be behind it, but the consulate compound has increased their security measures. the road is closed off with metal barricades you see there and several police vehicles are stationed in front of it. in london, scotland yard said a stabbing at a train station was a terrorist incident [indiscernible] >> that was video taken inside the underground station shows a man stabbing one of several people yesterday. one man has serious injuries, two others with minor injuries. witnesses say the attacker shouted "this is for syria." police hit him with a stun gun and arrested him. british parliament recently approved military air strikes on islamic extremist group targets in syria. terror has become the new focus of the presidential

s. >> welcome back. a live look from santa cruz. you still see some folks out there. it's 57 degrees right now. it's going do ramp up to a warm toasty 62 degrees later today. , the high surf warning there but no rain. doesn't look like it. in fact, san jose maybe .01-inch. it's winding down in the next couple hours. first we want to take you to our storm impact scale. we are currently under what we call a number one system, which is light with some breezy winds lasting a few hours, an inch and a half of rain.

. >> so number one here is light. breezy winds where you can see anywhere from a inch to three quarter inch for those in cloverdale in the early morning hours. as it pushes into a dryer air mass, it's manage to go bring down a few light sprinkles but not much out there at all. toward american canyon and vallejo. marin county, and southward through berkeley, oakland, walnut creek and concord. highway 12, wet weather. the san ramon valley, higher elevations of mt. diablo and fremont a little mist and drizzle. peninsula you picked up a little and belmont, half moon bay, but really falling apart toward mountain view and san jose.

rain-snow mix. maybe an inch or two should do it with temperatures in the mid-and upper 30s from truckee to the tahoe valley airport. we have fog, as well of the san francisco, poor visibility with delays over an hour. mid-50s for you. and the high dewpoints and the rain keeping it somewhat mild. from mt. tam kind of sets it on a rainy day. more showers in the north bay today before with winds down. livermore has been cool and certainly damp out there. san jose a little sunshine activity for you. temperatures will be on the mild side the next one he will days as the system moves out of the way. high pressure building tomorrow and tuesday a good deal of the high cloud cover. numbers back into the 60s. the next system looks to be a a longer one. we could see a half-inch to inch of rain into thursday and more saturday into sunday.

a polar bear receives special treats on a milestone birthday. this is snow lilly. she lives in a milwaukee zoo. she turned 30 on friday. zookeepers gave her a rawhide bone and an ice block filled with fish and other treats. she arrived at the zoo ten years ago. her birthday is special because they say polar bears in captivity usually live about 30 years, and 15 to 18 years in the wild. >> reports of an active shooter made tense moments as an air force base in new mexico. officials ordered a lockdown
