his town, around 2:15, the nanny was raking leaves in the front yard and she says she was confronted by a suspect and let him know that she did not speak english. 15 minutes later the man kicked in the door, and demanded money. after the nanny gave him cash and two ipads he still pistol whipped her and demanded keys to the family's porsche and took off. the homeowner told us all of this was witnessed by her 5-year-old daughter. >> she didn't go upstairs when the burglars told her to go upstairs. she stayed down stairs. she didn't see any of that. i don't know to what extent. >> orinda law enforcement issued

this is police confronting mario woods. police were trying to arrest woods and encouraged him to drop a knife. the police officer's association says officers were justified in firing weapons and the union is recalling a call for officers to carry tasers. >> four members of the sfpd used another level of force. >> the police commission turned down requests to equip officer was tasers. the commission meets again, tomorrow. nba champion golden state warriors hope to leave oracle arena in time for the tip off. and tonight, san francisco supervisors are debating whether to move forward with the plan despite objections of opponents who are raising environmental concerns. the plan to relocate is not the slam dunk.

and gang resistance education. the program is part of a law enforcement pilot program some parents oppose. >> reporter: once a week for six weeks, they're asking fifth graders to take the course. police and the school district are inviting them to taend the class. fifth graders at two san leandro schools will be given a course called great. gang resistance education and training program. >> it includes decision making, communicating clearly, recognizing and controlling anger, preventing bullying behaviors, respecting one another and opponents want to keep it out of the classroom. >> it's sad to imagine putting that time into a police pr

campaign. >> it will be taught by officers and the money comes from the federal government, only fifth graders from two schools will be taking the class. >> the teachers, the principals at the schools will evaluate the program and then, present that information and how that pilot went. >> parents we talked to have mixed feelings about the program. >> it would depend on how it is presented. >> how can you learn if you have to deal with the threat of violence? >> if the program is successful, it will be expanded. >> one of silicon valley's top school districts is trying to attract new teachers. cupertino union school district covers cities with a home costs $1.5 million. the district introduced a plan to help teachers pay for new homes on the former luther elementary site.

looking at ways to get homeless people off the streets as the weather gets worse. here is chris nguyen on the emergency shetter crisis declared today. >> reporter: at st. james park in san jose, a number of people without a home, bundling up. near city hall, a similar scene. >> this is an ongoing problem. >> reporter: robert agehry was homeless himself. >> we need to have a place where they can stay warm and safe for the night. >> as many prepare for temperatures to drop, extra help is on the way. the city council voted to declare an emergency shelter crisis which will allow homeless people to spend the night at predetermined buildings at certain times, in san jose, four cold weather shelters will open and a pilot temporary program developed. >> we're working now with churches that are willing to take in homeless and we're going

deals out there. whether it's a good deal for you, that is another thing altogether. a lot of times what they tell you you're going to get and what you're going to get can be a little different. david purcell heard about this offer from sprint to cut his bill in half. >> to think they're buying me out of a contract what. have i got to lose? >> he what had to pay verizon termination fees. sprint told him they would reimburse the fees. they came in gift cards. >> it was $130 and others but it was still half. >> david said sprint told him he would get the rest later and found his bill of $155 wasn't really cult in half.

he was required to lease phones from sprint. still, with the lease payment, the bill would be $110, a 29% savings but he encountered other problems. he says his internet signal didn't work well in his neighborhood. chris moran says david's experience with his plan is a common one. >> you may be getting a better price but maybe they don't have better service in the area. >> after three months, with no improvement, he decided to switch back to verizon and learned he has to buy the phones he was leasing. >> i said isn't that a contract? you're charging me an early termination fee. they said well, no. that is not what we call it. >> he says sprint demanded an immediate payment of $1400. >> the same as if you want to get out of a contract, pay the remainder in full. it is just another form of contract. >> david complained to 7 on your side and we contacted sprint, which dropped any further

a bay area company is joining forces with ucsf to revolutionize the way women are screened for breast cancer and your own genes to make a difference. >> reporter: for decades, mammograms have been the go to test for breast cancer but what if you can scan into a womens' dna? >> you zoom into the risk genes. >> the researcher says the genes

appear in familiar patterns like the colored beans on a necklace. they're able to hone in on key sections that can signal elevated risk. >> to look into the order of the beads. you compare if it's normal, compared to a standard breast cancer gene that functions normally or whether there is a change. >> now, researchers at ucsf are about to test the power of gene sequencing in a clinical trial. that will compare a breast cancer screening to a personalized approach. the study of 100,000 women is known as wisdom. half of the participants will provide details of the family history, then, undergo imaging. they'll provide a is a liva sample. >> yes. the test is very efficient. >> the founder of color genomics, the company has developed a system that lowered the cost of genetic screening
