>> el nino is linked to above-average water temperatures in the pacific ocean. it intensifies weather we would normally get. now, that effects will start in january and it could be the strongest in reported history. scientists say it still won't be enough to end california's four-year drought. >> the mayor and other city leaders say they are ready for el nino storms. >> abc 7 news reporter is live in the mission district. a neighborhood that historically floods. >> yes, this is an area that is prone to flooding. the city said today they have a small business response team on standby. and they're asking all residents to get ready. >> sf we're lucky, we'll be

this is an interesting storm. a few areas of sprinkles. here's a look at the main storm that's approaching us. it's well to the northwest at the moment. moving rather rapidly from the gulf of alaska. we'll give you a look at what we can expect from this storm. it's going to rank number two in our storm impact scale. we'll see up to an inch of rain in some parts of the bay area. winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour at times. mainly in the higher elevation. so let's move on and take a look at other features of this storm. we have a wind advisory that will be in effect from 10:00 tonight to 10:00 tomorrow morning. winds will be gusting 45-50 milings per hour in the higher terrain. and we're going to get some other friday afternoon. strong u gusty winds tomorrow, rainfall totals near one inch. and that's moshing morning and

this coming storm, will rank number two on our storm impact scale. we expect to see half an inch to an inch of rain. this is a storm of moderate strength and winds gusting up to 45 miles per hour. here's our forecast animation starting at 7:00 p.m. at which point we'll have light rain and drizzle. by t by 2 cloek tomorrow morning, parts of the north bay. the commute gets underway. we'll see a wile spread area of steady, locally heavy rain over the north bay with moderate rain over other parts of the bay area. it will be swinging southward and down to the east bay and south baby 7 a.m. woe get a second wave of rain pushing down by about 9:00 tomorrow night. during late night hours tomorrow, we'll have showers lingering into friday morning. so after this period of rainy, windy weather, we'll see winds

gusting following the time line here, by 4:00 tomorrow morning, up to 48 milings per hour. 32 miles per hour at half-moon bay. 36 in san francisco. 31 mile per hour gusts on the coast. and then we'll see the winds diminishing just a bit into mid-morning tomorrow. but it will remain breezy to windy throughout the day. well, we'll see up to an inch of rain tomorrow with this storm. by friday morning, in places like santa rosa and concord and livermore, oakland, and many other locations, meanwhile, in is the sierra, winter storm warning until 4:00 a.m. chain controls are likely. we'll see anywhere from 1-2 feet of snow. so for high temperatures tomorrow, right arnoound 60 degrees. highs will reach into the mid to upper 50s.

positi positive day at berkley high. a majority of african american students opted to go inside berkley high's theater for a day of healing. after all, they were the target of a hate message posted last movant by a student on a school computer. the message threatened to have a public lynching on december 9, today. >> racism has never left. it's still alive today. we just put a coffer over it. >> today's gatt i recalling was called take back the day. one of the parents' organizers says he heopes there's a silver lining for that hate crime. other students could have said stay in the classroom. >> we really hope that this body of student that is arework rk on this issue now are going to be the first real tide of change. >> today, school administrators took extra precautions to make sure everyone feel safe. >> we have extra safety officers.
