broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> now at 11:00, get ready for a wet and windy morning chute as we take a live look outside with our abc7 roof cam. it is dry right now, but that's about to change in a few hours. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm dan ashley. we have live team coverage and we will start with sandhya patel. she is tracking the storm with live doppler 7hd. >> dan and ama, as we look at live doppler 7hd you will notice it is starting to rain in the north bay. it is light, but it is measuring. i will take you in closer and we are tracking scattered showers. look at the bigger picture and this is a classic storm. it is not influenced by el nino. on the storm impact scale it is a two. you can expect half an inch to an inch of rain in most

areas. the stormest part is tomorrow morning's commute with gusts up to 45 miles an hour. the wind advisory is up for the north bay mountains. it runs until 10:00 a.m. and the power lines are getting knocked down with gusts 45 to 50 miles an hour. we are expecting the wind to continue. most of the rain is up to the north and the north bay and 2:00 a.m. it picks up in intensity and 4:00 a.m. the north bay is getting hit, but the other parts of the bay area will pick some up. at 5:00 a.m. it is crossing the central bay. 6:00 a.m. still there. by 7:00 a.m. it is pushing into the south bay 8:00 a.m., that's not all. i'll have all of the details coming up. >> sandhya, thank you. >> let's continue our coverage. >> we go to san rafael where they are bracing for the worst

in this wet weather. >> dan and ama, i am getting wet out here, and if we put the lights up you can see the rain coming down. the supply is getting low. the north bay gets hit hard by storms and this is no exception. >> leaves cover the sidewalk in san rafael. the wind is one of the first signs of the big storm expected to make headway. heavy rain and gusty winds and large waves are expected some areas might see flooding. >> the locations are staffed and everybody is ready to go. >> jason hatfield says they are expecting a busy night. >> we will be out trees into the homes and trees into the power lines. and then as the morning hours get closer to the commute times the roads are slippery and unfortunately we expect the car accidents. >> thisy have set up sandbag

locations. in san francisco, the public works are preparing since last week. they have cleared leaves and debris from the storm drain to prevent flooding. >> we have trees that are particularly vulnerable to storm damage. if a limb will come down or the whole tree and if they need pruning, they have been out paying attention to trees. >> pg&e has activated the emergency centers to respond to the storm and any outages. >> this is one of those do it yourself situations. they left out shovels and some bags. you just scoop them yourself and you can bring them to your home or business and there are several around. to prepare for the storm coming in, it is very important to be aware of the strong winds. they can knock down trees and power lines.

abc7 news. the incoming storm is forcing yosemite to close for the season. it normally closes each fall and reopens in the spring. yosemite is reminding the park visitors that all drivers are required to carry chains while driving in the park during the winter months even if your car has four wheel drive. >> we are hearing so much about el nino. it will not play a role. san francisco city leaders say their response and the preparedness plan. they are trimming trees and free sandbags are available as well. >> that is going to overwhelm our catch basins and the streets with some flooding. i am worried because we are such a hilly city with rock slides and the mudslides. >> the city says they will have response teams ready for businesses and everyone should

register for emergency notification by text or e-mail. and the storm preparations underway in the south bay too. abc news was in los gatos where they were removing saidment and vegetation while the water district is offering free sandbags. the statewide el nino response plan is in place. federal, state and city officials unveiled it in sacramento. this plan includes the creation of a central hub for crisis management to be better coordinated. it is not too early to get ready for el nino. plan an emergency plan for your family and post-it at abc7news.com. the crews are preparing for impending weather and knocked out phone and internet service to much of humboldt county. they reported that the cal trans crew mistakenly cut a fiber optic cable in neighboring mendocino county.

the service isn't expected to be restored until noon tomorrow. also new at 11:00, it was a packed out at san francisco city hall. the protesters are outraged at the city's police department after a 26-year-old man was shot and killed by officers. abc7 news reporter attended tonight's meeting and joins us live. >> you can see what's left and there are just a few flickering candles. the commission went into closed session about 30 minutes ago. the commission said everyone would have a chance to speak during the public comment and the line was endless. because everyone wasn't allowed in the room at the same time, things got heated. >> the night started with a rally on the steps of city hall. demonstrators want justice for mario woods who was shot and killed by police in the bay view. it was captured on cell phone video. the police commission heard

comment for nearly five hours. people forced to wait outside chant it from the hallway while speaker after speaker addressed the commission. >> i want you to resign and the five officers that did this, i want their jobs and to be brought up on charges. it was senseless. >> you make $300,000? that's preposterous for being a killer. that's our money paying you to be a killer. >> you sit back there and you check off boxes and you file papers away and you forget these people are human beings. na come in here and ask for yous -- ask for justice. >> the issue is the use of deadly force. he said he would like the officers to have tools other than their guns. >> the london times subdue the subject and the use of the conductive energy device.

august 12th and december 4th. there are nine elephant bar restaurants in the bay area. on to the weather. we have this one-two punch coming. >> ama and dan, we have two storms coming. the first is approaching the bay area right now. i will take you in a little closer. we have seen santa rosa and ukiah. that will continue and only intensifying toward the morning commute. the current temperatures in the 50s, 60s and really it is comfortable to mild. it is muggy out there and it is going to be a misty and drizzly one with rain in the north bay. the emeryville camera is looking across the bay. stormy for your morning commute. showers and thunder tomorrow afternoon and tomorrow evening and the next system is coming in this weekend. the storm that is incoming is a two on the scale.

half an inch to an inch of rain for most of you with gusts to 45 miles an hour. take a look at the wind. it is going to get dwusy as we head -- it is going to get gusty. 36 at sfo. you know it is going to be a bit dicey. heading toward the latter part of the morning the winds will start to come down. there is a high surf warning in affect tomorrow afternoon at 4:00 p.m. until friday 4:00 p.m. swell building to 21 feet. you know that this kind of activity can really bring the risk of rip currents. please be careful if you are going to the coastline to check out the waves. tonight, 11:00 p.m. the rain is in the north bay. watch what happens. moderate to heavy rain moves in. as we head toward 4:00 a.m., everyone is getting wet. the heaviest is still up to the north.

5:00 a.m. staying there and then we head into 6:00 a.m. it is right across the central bay. 7:00, 8:00 it is in the south bay. we start to get a little break around lunchtime. a few showers, but nothing severe until the evening rush begins. the second and third waves move in and we may even see thunder. we are looking at the potential for thunderstorms. as we head toward 10:00 p.m. that's the second and third wave. the thunderstorm activity could mean small hail. this is indicating some snow around the mountains just north of the radar site. the showers start to taper around 8:00 a.m. a couple more into your friday afternoon. how much rain? looks like a healthy dose. right now over an inch in the north bay. looks like a half to three quarters. in the sierra there is a winter storm warning that will run until friday 4:00 a.m.
