live from the kgo-tv broadcast center. this is abc7 news. >> the bay area is drying out and cleaning up after a day of heavy rain, flooding strong winds and even hail. you now we're getting ready for the chill. good evening, thanks for joining us. >> the third storm this week caused lots of problems like this. there were many scenes across the bay area where residents had this to clean up after a treetop pelled on to three -- tree toppled on to three cars. no one was hurt there. look familiar? this man's umbrella was no match for wind gusts in union city. the trees blew in the wind as you can see along whipple road along interstate 880. and this cell phone video shows us the sights and sounds of pebble-sized hail pounding

a family's deck in san francisco. drew joins us with the rain totals and what's up next. >> at times the rain was coming down in sheets. the embarcadero and emeryville and the bay bridge earlier today. you saw the front move through and it really brought some soaking showers. in terms of how much rain we uh-huh -- a lot of locations picked them up. you can see napa over a quarter of an inch. it was over that in oakland and san rafael close to an inch. some of these numbers are the biggest rain totals we have seen since last december. look at this video. they saw nearly two feet of snow in the past 48 hours creating whiteout conditions there and even getting to the mourn step was a challenge. it is showing you going on 80

and 50 was a treacherous task. we did have at sugar bowl 22 inches. a little less than that in emerald bay. we will track our next storm coming up. >> drew, thank you. see you then. let's check in with sergio who is live in san francisco with a look at the clean up around the bay area. >> a lot of work ahead for some folks, sergio. >> it took crews a good part of the day to clear up a lot of the stopped up street gutters that were causing traffic problems earlier in the day. some had standing water like this spot here and it is getting pretty cold out here. some of these spots can get slick so drivers need to be careful. the day's storms caused an array of problems. it looked more like a river. the tow truck drivers came to the rescue of several stalled

out vehicles. >> standing water was a consistent problem. this is the intersection of third and castro in oakland and then there was a wind. it caused problems for one alaska airline crew headed to honolulu. >> to describe it as best as i can the wind came uh is cro the runway. >> with rain and wind came tumbling trees. these branches came down in the north beach district and county crews estimated this tree at 40 years old. it did a number on this transport van when it was pushed over by the afternoon wind. >> she walked out and literally saw this tree come down. she heard it smash. >> he says he dries special

needs kids to the daily appointment. the van was only parked for 45 minutes. luckily no one was nearby. this downed tree damaged cars on the street and took out power lines. the power was out in several portions of the city and they worked all day to restore electricity. abc7 news. weather likely caused an accident that left a mother and daughter dead and others hurt. it was raining hard when an suv plunged down the embankment near tracy. the children, a 6-year-old girl and 5-year-old boy, were taken to the hospital and are expected to survive. it is believed the suv hydroplaned before it crashed. interstate five is closed because of a mudslide near fort tejon. you can see 9 back up from this video. it is closed near was -- near

>> he said come here i want to talk to you. she said i don't think so. he said come here. and then he approached her and grabbed her. >> she lives a few houses down and managed to get away. the perpetrator threw the girl to the ground and dragged her before fleaing in this pick up -- fleeing in this pick up truck. >> you can see her left knee was dragged all over the pavement. we brought her in and called police. >> this is the lathest attempted kidnapping in the area in months. at this point police have no information this latest case is connected. albany's mayor lives around the corner and like everyone else in the neighborhood is shocked. it was not an attempted kidnapping. >> i will not let my son walk home that late. >> as for the teenage girl

they applaud her for fighting back. >> i am prod of her for doing dash -- dash proud of her for doing that. it could have been bad if she got in the car. >> the suspect's vehicle was said to be in good condition including lumber in the bed of the truck. the suspect is believed to have fled in the passenger's seat. another man was behind the wheel. lilian kim, abc7 news. voters face a warning. this after a cargo ship lost 12 shipping containers in rough waters near the golden gate bridge. the sales force ceo tweeted out this picture of one of the containers. it says, "hey matson shipping" you can find your container between china beach and baker beach. it shows what ended up on the beach. the crate from the container. they tweeted this picture out. coast guard said ho hazardous material was lost in the cargo ship late on friday night. several agencies are searching for the remaining container.

that's thanks to one of our abc7 viewers. >> another sent us wind gusts shredding this backyard canopy. we got lots of photos and videos of today's storm. it is all across the bay area. drew has been going through some of them. drew? >> our abc7 now community has been tracking the rain and wind. it comes from the high-tech dads on the bay bridge saying it is windy and wet and he saw three accidents saying slow down. another video. it is raining a bit. the windshield wipers getting a workout. along with the rain we had very gusty winds over 50 miles per hour. storm damage reducing trees or uprooted as the wind moves through. we also had trees falling down on highway 84. you notice the tree on the highway and taking down power lines. now behind the front we had pretty beautiful pictures. this from sonoma valley. the sun is out and so are

multiple rainbows. when you can capture is where you live use # abc7 now or abc7 ?ie. and strong winds from a thunderstorm storm blew a train off the railroad bridge and to the road below. it happened in eastern texas it. a total of 64 cars blew over. the railcars were empty and the train wasn't moving at the time. no one was hurt in that incident. the fbi is trying to figure out who vandalized two mosques in southern california and left a fake grenade in front of one of them. police found it in hawthorne which is south of l.a. they spray painted jesus on the gate. they believe the vandalism happened overnight and they are investigating it as a hate crime. >> the search is on for the thieves who targeted the home of a well-known paraolympian. the skier who has taken home

many medals has taken everything including the medals she earned. >> this morning they are the only one on their mind. they were caught on surveillance cameras breaking into the los angeles home leaving little behind. >> they went into our kitchen and started eating ice cream out of the freezer and then slowly over the course of the evening dismantling tv and computers and christmas gifts. >> at least eight surveillance cameras in and outside of the home giving police a clear picture of the suspects and the details of their crime. but it is what else is missing that haunts victor. videos of her most treasured victories. and including this.

on to a construction crane. the men had cameras and other photographic equipment with them. how the driver of this suv came inches from death. the piece of metal sticking out of his windshield came loose from a truck he was following last thursday afternoon in san jose. the driver said he saw the metal coming and didn't want to veer left or right because there were cars all-around him so instead he ducked. he walked away with a scratch on his arm. the owner of the truck is going to get a ticket. >> what an incredible story and kudos for that man not hitting someone else. >> always prepared. >> we have the rain and the wind moving through. now everything is calming down in the atmosphere. we are dry and clearing out our skies. but the winds were very active.

looking at our peak wind gusts and ocean beach at 55 miles per hour. sfo47. the golden gate bridge is tough driving across with a wind gust of 45 miles an hour. the winds have calmed down and we have a gust of 43. 22 in novato. you notice the wind direction out of the northwest. that's a cool breeze pulling down the cool canadian air and that is what is moving in overnight and setting up shop for the next couple days. the current temperature 46 in oakland and 48 in san francisco. 47 in fremont and pair field and santa rosa at 45. the northwesterly breeze and clear skies. it will get chilly in a lot of spots. 41 in oakland and then dropping to 39 overnight in

san jose. the winds will be with us even tomorrow morning. as you head off to work and school you will feel a chill. a 23 mile per hour gust in san francisco. 22 in oakland and even throughout the afternoon, the wind out of the north will be with us. that means a cool afternoon on the way. so plan out your monday. it is clear and breezy. by noon there is lots of sunshine. it looks really nice. but it is in the 40s and low 50s and the breeze is still with us by 4:00 with temperatures in the mid50s. 57 in oakland and 56 in san francisco. the same in san jose. 57 concord and 56 napa and 55 the high in santa rosa. then we have cool more than -- cool mornings on the way. some spots are close to the freezing mark. it is a carbon copy forecast headed our way wednesday morning as well.

i wouldn't be surprised if we saw a couple of frost advisories going up. it is 35 in napa and dropping to 35 in concord and 44 in san francisco. after the cool air departs we will be tracking our next storm system. we fast-forward friday night into saturday and this is when we will be tracking our next cold front. right now it looks like it is a slow mover. that means it could linger saturday into sunday and bring us some showers for next weekend. we will keep track as it gets closer. there is a cool start tomorrow, but breezy. it is a frosty morning with sunshine in the afternoon. a chilly start by thursday. sunshine to clouds. fry day bringing the -- friday bringing the north bay shower. then we are tracking the rain possible. the umbrella, relax.

"the talking dead" is a talk show about" the walking dead" took down the photo earlier tonight. family members believe shier riff deputies should have stopped firing at a man after he hit the ground. sur -- surveillance video caught the deadly confrontation. he is suspected of firing a handgun into the air. deputies say he refused to drop the gun and he continued to hold on to it. >> in the race for president

and these winds are going to be with us for much of the day on monday. it will have the chill in the air as we head back to work and school. since the front moved through it relaxed the atmosphere. lots of sunshine and 61. 50 in fresno. pief 5 in sacramento. here in the bay area the northwesterly wind and it is gusting to 25 miles per hour at times it is going to be chilly out there with temperatures in the mid50s. the same in san francisco. 57 oakland and 55 santa rosa and san jose. so the accu-weather seven-day forecast shows a chilly start tomorrow and the same thing on tuesday morning and wednesday morning. lots of sunshine the next three days. the clouds increase and ahead of our next front. we will track rain for everyone possible next week. >> so not the same downpours. >> not yet. we'll keep track. >> you are not going to rain

clayton kershaw watching the packers and the caw boys. aaron rogers and richard rogers connected again today, but only three yards. 14-0 green bay packers. eddie lacey ran for 134. packers are a game up on the vikings with a 28-7 victory. washington had a 21-7 lead over the bears in the third quarter until chicago came back. kurt cousins picked off and it lead to a seven-yard run with a quarter to play. robbie gold who missed the game winning kick against the niners misses the 50-yard field goal. watch out for the seahawks dominating the ravens. russell wilson has thrown 16td's. he had five today and three went to doug baldwin who has eight td catches.
