sergio in the meantime, the largest ever container ship in the u.s. is headed to oakland, it's carrying 18,000, 20 foot containers. a 26-year-old man faces manslaughter in the death of a bicyclist today in san francisco. police say eric mendez was speeding when he ran down a 63-year-old man this morning. the cyclist was wearing a helmet and reflective gear. mendez did try to help the victim but the bicyclist died at the scene. no charges are expected in a deadly collision between a pickup truck and bicyclist today. investigators say a 52-year-old woman was killed as she rode down channelwith avenue. drugs and alcohol were also not

a factor in that accident. three teenagers may face charges after injuring a newark officer with a rock. police arrested the three after they threw a larjt this s.w.a.t. van friday. the rock shattered the window and hit the driver who suffered a gash to his head. police say the teenagers admitted to throwing the rock and said they were sorry. santa clara county prosecutors found the owners of two cats that were wearing collars that is key evidence in this case. we have new details on the story you'll see only on avb 7. >> reporter: it is strange and sad. now, prosecutors know who the owners of the cats are, the cats that wore the collars, they can add more counts to the charges against robert farmer.

his main charge is animal cruelty. abc7 news first broke this story in september with this man, police say robert farmer was caught snatching a cat from a lawn of a home in san jose. neighbors feared there was a serial cat napper. others saying they, too, had cats missing or found dead. prosecutors last week asked for the public's help in finding the owners of the two cats which had these collars when snatched. police found the collars with a dead cat in robert farmer's car when the 24-year-old was arrested in october. the pink collar belongs to thumper, a cat owned by leon martinez and his wife. his remains were found in a parking lot. >> sorry, vic i'm just a little emotional. >> reporter: martinez saw the collar and called the d.a. >> it's just, just bad feelings

nose and throat surgery in oakland. she suffered a heart attack during recovery and was declared brain dead. she's now in a hospital in new jersey on a vent later, though the county issued a death certificate for her before she was transferred. her family insists she's still alive. the santa clara office of cair is open after hazmat scare there. an envelope containing a white substance arrived at the building on thursday, forcing an evacuation. the fbi determined it was not dangerous and the office reopened today. the counsel of islamic relations. the local office is across the street from the largest mosque in the bay area, part of the investigation focuses on whether the envelope is in response to the san bernardino shootings. alameda police are investigating after someone vandalized a building formerly used by an islamic center. the window was smashed at the building located just across from the islamic center of

big news for anyone who owns a drone. you'll now be required to register them with the federal aviation administration and the pricey fine you can face for

failing to register. >> think of it as driving without a license and registration. if you get caught in a crash, you can create a pricey fine. the same happened to drone operators in cases, they can face up to a quarter million dollars in fines and prison time. >> drones are the future of aviation. >> drones plus manager explains the new rules to customers. >> seems like a simple process but seems a little more than necessary. >> tyler wilder will be required to register their drones with the faa. modajemi says it sets rules and that is a good thing. >> without having proper registration the industry is not going to grow as fast as we wanted it to.

palettes, what is left of a shipping container that washed ashore. there are 10 or 11 others one accounted for. >> if they sink, you can cause damage to living habitats. >> each weighs about two and a half tons. this is before it got ripped apart by the waves. people stacked palettes from a possible second container. but siero foam lining is scattered about everywhere. >> saying there may be containers and just to be extra cautious. >> a spokesman says all 12 were packed with empty plastic palettes, washed about eight miles off shore when the bar pilot was transferring back to his boat.
