broadcast center, this is abc7 muse. >> developing now at 11:00, a child is carried to safety after an east bay apartment complex busts into flames. firefighters say this really could have been much worse. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. it broke out just after 6:00 tonight. >> alan wang is live at the scene with why first responders were stretched so thin this evening. alan? >> dan and ama, two fires erupted within minutes of each other and that's what stretched the department so thin. here at the pepper tree apartments are out of their homes and investigators believe it was caused by a space heater plugged into an extension cord which is not recommended. >> everything. i lost everything.

tv, clothes, christmas presents i bought for people. >> he was laid off from his job last month and now his apartment is destroyed. but they are thankful their 18-month-old daughter survived this fire. >> that's the first thing i asked. where is my baby? where is my auntie and where is my wife? >> she noticed the flames coming from the outlet and a neighbor carried her to safety. >> it is -- as i was going downstairs the fire broke and flames were coming out. >> at first only one engine and three firefighters were able to fight the blaze at the pepper tree apartments. that's because another erupted on the other side of town. two fires within four minutes of each other. >> resources coming from concord and they were with the working fire as well.

about two cubans. >> the next republican debate is scheduled for january 14th, two and a half weeks before the iowa caucuses. lilian kim, abc7 news. >> as brandy mentioned they will debate this saturday. live coverage starts at 5:00 p.m. on saturday. new tonight a false alarm caused tense moments on a college campus in orange county. students were placed on lock down and the out lying area was evacuated. after an extensive search the area was deemed safe. los angeles schools will resume school african selling all of them because of a threat. police say they received a warning about a large scale attack and shutdown the district of 650,000 students. >> new york received a similar threat and decided it was not credible enough to can sell classes. san francisco and oakland schools did not receive a threat, but police in both

districts increased patrols around the schools as a result of what happened in l.a. and administrators used it as an opportunity to review safety plans. and then this morning a hayward police arrested a high school student for making criminal threats. the student admitted to posting a threat of violence yesterday on social media. tonight a teenager who was killed by a broken tree limb in oakland received a special honor. they were unsure they wrote personal lanterns. a funeral service is set for this thur in oakland. >> the man who flew into a chp pilot. >> i feel really upset and what has happened.

the airline says the boeing 747's nose gear collapsed. passengers described hearing a loud noise and then feeling it tilt slightly before it came to a stop. >> well tonight two children reported missing are now feared dead after two bodies were discovered in a storage unit north of sacramento. 3-year-old delilah and 6-year-old sean have not been seen for days. she is in jail accused of abusing and torturing another child. abc7 interviewed huntsman last year. lisa amin gulezian joins us live from the south bay bureau with the details. >> ama, i met her outside her salinas home. back then she was using the name tammy. i remember seeing her with a lot of kids. they raided the same home this week.

>> they are accused of torturing her 9-year-old niece. they lead quincy to this home on friday. they found the girl alone in the parked car with broken bones and teeth. >> it was immediately recognized as grave. >> the couple was arrested and then another tip came in asking about the conditions of a 3-year-old and 6-year-old living with them. they talked about a storage unit in redding where they found the bodies of two young children. their identities have not been connish ifed, but we have now learned she had two children in her custody. 3-year-old dalila and 6-year-old sean tara. they were reported missing. this man lived next to the couple in quincy. >> it is crazy i didn't have any idea it was happening. >> it stretched to salinas where the couple lived until recently. i met hunts map hereafter her younger brother was charged

with setting the king fire in pollack pines last year. >> my brother wouldn't do anything to intentionally harm the forest, will wilderness or anybody's housing. >> they are wanted for the murder of the children found in the storage unit, but they have not been charged. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> new at 11:00. the city leaders moved forward on an effort to quell gun violence in oakland. they approved three ordinances. the second requires gun owners to lock and store guns in a locked container while the weapons are in their home. the third bans them from leaving firearms in unattended vehicles. facebook hosted a forum with members of the lgbt committee to discuss changes to the naming policy. last year the drag performers say they were locked out of their account after someone

reported they were not using their real names. they say the drag performers were being targeted and encouraged that facebook is taking action. >> they saw and heard from our community. they felt the pain. it was encouraging and great to hear that. >> the new policy will require people to explain why they are reporting a name. they will then have the opportunity to inform facebook they are being targeted. >> a popular hair care line is facing a class action lawsuit. at least 200 people have filed a lawsuit. it claims hair loss, scalp irritation and rashes. the hair care company says there is no scientific evidence when somebody pollutes their hair. >> more rape is coming to the bay area. sandhya patel has the timing for that. >> i do indeed. dan and ama, before we get to the rain, we will talk about the cold.

there are clear conditions and the high clouds. we will see them insulated. santa rosa and novato. make snow and they will be getting the first of two storm systems that are coming through. another cold night is ahead. the next storm arrives on friday. tomorrow morning how cold? try below freezing. 32 livermore and 33 concord. it is even cold on the peninsula. palo alto and south bay san jose 37 morgan hill. oakland will be in the 40s. wean colder weather south of the bay area.

they are expecting temperatures to dip down low to upper 20s. yeah, that could cause some damage to crops. here is a look at why thursday morning is not going to be as cold here in the bay area. we will see some high clouds increasing at 5:00 a.m. you will notice some rain starts to develop up in ukiah. we'll put in a slight chance of rain in the north bay around noontime. and then it will behead nooght evening commute. that's where the rain will stay into friday. that's when we expect the first system to come in. that first system is a one on the impact scale. rain and showers on saturday and expecting half an inch for the wettest locations. we head into the afternoon and it is in the north bay. it is shifting by the evening commute. especially heading out of town for the holidays it will be on

the tough side to get out of here friday night and evening. showers are still going and rain will taper and you can dpet out and about and get your stuff done. most areas are between .29 and half an inch. they will pick up a half an inch of rain though. it will be cool. tomorrow afternoon everyone in the 50s, half moon bay, san jose. 55 livermore and 56 vallejo. high clouds will be filtering the sun to the north. looking at the seven-day forecast we will keep it on the cool side. told tomorrow morning and then we lose the chill and then bring in the first storm system. it is a one going into saturday. we may see a chance of showers on sunday afternoon, but the second storm is wet and windy. it is a two.
