two stow aways that could have caused real harm in the bay area. these are called giant african snails. they were found aboard a shipment of wooden palettes. they measured three inches just around the shell. the snails are extremely disruptive. they can eat at least 500 types of plants and munch on homes, too. >> when they're short of food supply, they've been known to eat the stucco from homes because the stucco has high calcium content. >> and look at this, the snails also carry diseases including a parasite that causes meningitis. >> a road to recovery in bay air ya news. the two are appearing for the mountain yellow leg frogs. 270 tadpoles are now growing until they can be released into the wild next summer.
