love. it's what makes a subaru, a subaru. broadcast center. this is abc7 news. >> first on abc7 news, a woman gardening in san francisco makes a chilling find. bones belonging to a child. tonight sources close to the investigation are revealing details about the discovery. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm dan ashley. the bones were discovered at an apartment just a block from alamo square park. >> katie is live in the newsroom. you talked with the woman who found the first bone? >> uh gnaw i did -- anna, i did. she sent this into motion. she said the planters were put on the porch by a tenant in 2007, and then it was a couple weeks ago she was trying to save the plants, but throw out the boxes after discovering

they had termites and that's when she found a human bone in the soil. >> absolutely insane. a relatively quiet neighborhood. >> it gives me the creeps. >> she shared these photos with us. she took them outside her apart meant building a few weeks ago. she knew from talking with neighbors a bone had been found in a planter box on the porch. police also reportedly found another piece of bone in a planter next door with the help of cadaver dogs. >> especially knowing where the bones are at, i am interested to see if it has something to do with this apartment, that apartment. >> a team of experts arrived on scene and set up a makeshift lab after the woman who found the first bone took it to the police department. but not before she showed it to a neighbor. >> she knocked on the door visibly upset and she put it in a large zip lock bag. >> police thought the bone was human and reliable sources tell abc7 news that the medical exam per and archaeologists believe the

pounds, and he was last seen wearing a plaid shirt and blue jacket and blue pants and blue shoes. >> investigators say two children found dead in a storage unit near redding died somewhere else. detectives are trying to determine if the girl and boy are dalila and sean thara who lived in salinas and went missing. they were in the care of their aunt. the kids are the same ages as the victim. huntsman is considered a suspect in the death. tonight new video surfaced showing huntsman in a hotel lobby. no children were with the couple when they checked in. child welfare workers repeatedly visited huntsman's home in salinas and they say there is no evidence that the children were at risk. a 15-year-old boy in the east bay is facing felony assault and battery charges tonight for an incident that took place at a high school water polo tournament. >> but some say the punishment

goes too far. alan wang has the details from lafayette. >> all of a sudden i see the kid come out on a defensive play. >> his water polo coach said his 15-year-old player was punished for striking a opponent and breaking his nose. it happened in late september. >> we issued what we thought was appropriate discipline in this case. >> the school district suspended the boy athlete particularly and academically. now he is facing felony assault and battery. we were surprised. we were quite surprised by it. >> maybe we can -- maybe both families can talk. submitting it to the law is ridiculous. >> one of the main factors is intent. the water polo community is calling on its members to pressure the d.a. is into

dropping those charges. >> i hope all of those things don't affect the stress he is putting on him. >> now many in the water polo community fear it could set a new precedent in governing high school sports. in love lafayette, alan wang, abc7 news. >> a flight bound for amsterdam was canceled after a passenger disturbance grounded the plane in houston. a person on the flight took this cell phone video you are watching showing officers going through some luggage. all of this started when they say they were acting suspiciously. police were called in and the men were handcuffed and taken off the plane. police later released information that they were not a threat. and still to come, more protests as a mistrial was declared in the case against the police officer for the death of freddie gray. this new video into the abc7 newsroom shows the scene on the ground.

abc7 news reporter explains how this mistrial may affect the case of the other officers facing charges. >> a new round of protests in baltimore. >> deputies forming a line around the courthouse as they declare a mistrial in the case of the police officer tried in the death of freddie gray. >> obviously the process is flawed. >> jurors said they were deadlocked and they ordered them to continue deliberations. they still could make no progress toward a verdict on any of the four charges against officer william porter for the death of 25-year-old gray. gray died after suffering a severe spinal injury in police custody in april. his death sparking weeks of violent protests. prosecutors say he refused to put a seatbelt on gray. he was transported in the back of the police van and ignored

his request for medical help. >> i hope we do get a conviction somewhere because freddy is dead. >> whether they will force porter to take the stand in a retrial is not yet known. some speculate he could get immunity against the other officers facing charges and whose cases could be affected by the prosecution's failure in this first attempt. in the meantime, baltimore leaders and gray's family are urging a peaceful response. >> we ask the public to remain calm and patient because we are confident that there will be another trial with a different jury. abc news, washington. three jail guard charged in an inmate's death want to keep the public out of the courtroom. the next case is in february and our media partners will report it will decrease the

chance of finding jurors. they face life sentences in the death. winter vacation began for students to add to the elementary school in east palo alto. it will be closed tomorrow and friday because the school can't run the system. they are blaming it on a leaky pipe. pg&e will turn it back on when the school district finishes repairs. a robbery suspect turned herself into police after her selfie automatically up loaded to the victim's i cloud account giving her away. here are the selfies of tasha. they believe she was knocked out before stealing her cell phone. the victim alerted police when she saw the pictures up load to her account. this time tomorrow eager fans will be sitting in their seats for "the force awakens." these fans in san francisco will be in their seats tonight. >> and a skimmer scam hits a

is abc7 news. this time tomorrow night the movie theaters in the bay area and across the country will be packed showing the film everyone is waiting for. "star wars" "the force awakens." some fans are getting a head start. new at 11:00, they were there as dozens of fans camped out for a screening of all six previous "star wars" movies. it starts at 1:00 a.m. the marathon will then lead into a screening of the new movie tomorrow night and that is one way fans are getting ready. cornell bernard picks up the story. cornell i thought you would be in costumes. >> it is in the van. i'll put that on later.
