>> now, to another terrorist threat. san francisco schools announced today that it did receive a threat overnight similar to the one that shut down the public schools in los angeles earlier this week. live outside galileo high school with the details. >> reporter: that threat is being labeled a hoax tonight. it certainly got the attention of a lot of people. no specific threat against galileo high school here or any other school in san francisco, but police will be maintaining a presence around schools for the time being. >> listening to a voice mail sent to parents about a threat of violence against san francisco public schools. >> for how long are they going to be this way? what are we going to do tomorrow? >> at this point in time, we have no reason to believe that the threat is credible what so ever. >> reporter: san francisco school superintendent says the threat was almost generic.

sent by e-mail overnight to five distriblgt employees. no specific schools were named. >> the e-mail threat, i can say, is very similar, almost identical to the e-mail threat that was mailed to new york city and los angeles earlier in the week. same kind of description about bombs being placed in schools, people with guns, et cetera. >> los angeles decided to close this week after a violent threat. after consulting with police and the fbi, san francisco chose to keep schools open. >> all education sites in san francisco unified school district have now been swept or scanned and nothing suspicious was found. >> yeah, i just heard about it in class. one of the students was looking at her phone and she saw an e-mail that there were threats. >> parents don't want officials to overreact to a hoax, but

police shot after they say he threatened them with a knife. carolyn tyler covered today's service which included an emotional eulogy. >> reporter: they celebrated the life and mourned the death of mario wood. the 26-year-old man they remembered seemed nothing like the suspect police believed stabbed someone before he was shot to death by officerings on december 2nd. >> he was a human being. he wasn't just some black kid from the ghetto. >> the fatal shooting says out rage. he says woods was no threat. >> we talk about terrorism. but for the african american community, this is terrorism. >> reporter: at the somber service, speaker after speaker denounced the police officers saying mario woods did not deserve to die.

morning in freemont. a dump truck spilled rocks all over the road. it took about three hours to clear those lanes. >> a new report by the metropolitan transportation agency shows just how tough it is to get around the bay area these days. the average commute time is up to 30 minutes each way, with each person driving an average of 23 miles per day. also, gone are the days when you kind of knew what to kmpt when you headed to work. the unpredictablilty has gone up 27% since 2011. >> after crunching all 2 numbers, we know that congestion is more severe than ever before. >> there is some positive news. 12% of bay area commuters relied on public transportation in 2014. that's the highest since 1960.

it is true. today is the day "star wars" fans have been waiting for. "star wars. the force awakens opens. fans are lining up to watch the premier. jonathan bloom is there live for us. >> reporter: hi, there. these fans have been lining up since 6:30 in the morning. another couple came all the way from maui. why are they coming from so far? it weighs 1200 pounds and it's nine miles long. i'm not talking about a space creature here. we're talking about celluloid.

moderate rain friday afternoon and emping. up to an inch in our wetest locations. here we go, hour by hour, starting you off, 5:00 in the morning, there may be a light shower. tracking that first. the rain moves into the north bay. the yellows and the oranges you see on your screen, that's the heaviest of the rain. knocking on the door of santa rosa around noon. it slides to the south by 2:00, 3:00. 4:00, the heaviest of the rain arrives to san francisco. steadier showers by 6:00. over much of the bay area. you see at 6:00, most of us are going to be in our car.

looking live now from sky 7 hd where police are investigating a shooting on interstate 80. investigation is focused on a highway as well as a nearby deny's restaurant located just off the freeway. first responders took one person to the hospital. it appears that person got to the deny's after the shooting. >> we do want to share some big news with you. >> it was made this morning on the abc 7 morning news. >> eric and i are moving on from abc 7 news. don't worry, we're not leaving abc 7. tomorrow is our last day anchoring the morning newscast. >> it's been such a pleasure and an honor to help you start your

a retired homicide detective hopes the bones will help solve cold cases. vick lee is live now with the latest. >> police investigators are waiting for lab results. specifically to annals that burning question, who is this child? a question that's especially important to cold case detectives. >> even if they don't identify the bones, they can say how old the bones are. and then go from there. >> joe tumey is a retired san francisco homicide cold case inspector. he's interested in the human bones found in a planter box. the disturbing discovery was made last movrnt. natassa told us she saw one of the bones! the piece that i saw was a section of what looked like a

jawbone and the teeth definitely seemed similar to the molars. >> police put up crime tape to preserve not only the planter boxes, but the dirt around the building. tumey says the last time he can remember a similar police operation was two years ago in a house about a mile away. investigators tore up the basemented floor when cadaver dogs low kated bones in a house once occupied by a person of interest in the disappearance of kevin collins. the 10-year-old boy has been missing since 18984. but the bones turned out to be from an animal. this latest discovery bringing tumey back to that cold case. the only case that i know of of a child that is unsolved and the child body has not been found is kevin collins, in san francisco.

compute computers, laptops and tablets are increasingly being used by physicians as they store data. and could eating bacon be better for the environment than lettuce? lettuce is over three times worse in greenhouse gas emissions and eating bacon according to researcher who is analyzed the inpact per calorie of different foods, in terms of energy cost, water use and emissions. despite the finding, livestock does contribute to global warming, as well. >> you may have noticed this trend. fewer companies are hosting holiday parties this year. a recent survey asked human resource managers about party plans. 65% of them are still holding parties. but 30% aren't. the society for human resource management also discovered that

accusations tonight he tried to join a terrorist organization. >> good emping. thank you for joining us tonight. >> that 22-year-old man is charged with trying to charge a group linked to al-qaida. he traveled to istanbul turkey to join an islamic extremist group. these accusations are shocking a quiet neighborhood in freemont, to be sure. katie yumis is live with the very latest. >> reporter: the f.b.i. arrested adam back in july. so this is nothing new to his family, whom i talked toed today. they did not want to do an interview, but thirp polite. it was somewhat caught in the middle. it was his father that noticed that his son may be becoming radicalized. >> i'm literally shocked. i know all of these kids in the neighborhood. i think most of them, if not all, born here. >> a sen tram grand jury

indicted adam schoffee atempb attempting to join the terrorist group. in the fbi's affidavit, it says adam sent a text message to relative one that said he had gone to protect muslims. schoffee went to istanbul, turkey and then returned home to the bay area. his father reported more concerning details. adam may have been following extreme imams online and that some of his high school friends were of the same mind set. the f.b.i. started listening to phone conversations in june of this year with investigators saying adam also stated that america is the aenmy. and he wanted to fight with extremists. in late june, schoffee booked a
