a young fremont man is accused of trying to help a foreign terrorist. >> federal agents say he was preparing to board a plane at sfo to join a subsidiary of al qaeda. >> we are live in fremont now with the story. katie? >> reporter: he is still in custody following his july arrest. i spoke with his family tonight. they politely declined an interview at their home. court documents say his father told authorities he feared his son was becoming radicalized. in an affluent fremont neighborhood lived a 22-year-old man now accused of trying to join a terrorist organization in the middle east. >> i'm literally shocked and i know these kids in the neighborhood. i've seen most of them, if not all, born here. >> reporter: a grandchildren indicted adam for attempting to

join the terror group. in 2014 his father notified the u.s. embassy in cairo when he disappeared during a family vacation in egypt. in the fbi affidavit, it says adam sent a text message to a relative that said he had gone to quote, protect muslims. he returned home to the bay area. the fbi started listening to his phone conversations in june of this year with investigators saying he wanted to fight extremists. how can i meet allah when my face has no scars on it? he booked a one way ticket to istanbul. one passenger refused to board with him.

scott clark helped smuggle drugs into the united states for more than two years. she was arrested yesterday and due back in court tomorrow. sunnyvale police arrested a man suspected of sexual assaulting a student, accused of rape and kidnapping after police say he assaulted an 18-year-old woman. saying he became drunk at a party, drove her back to his house and sexual assaulted her. >> we have uncovered more problems involving double decker tour bus companies. it seems another company isn't following rules as well. abc7 news is live with the story you'll see only on abc7. >> one of the best ways to see the view here is on a double

all is clear in san francisco schools tonight after a threat forces investigators to do a security sweep of more than 100 schools. they're convinced there was never real danger but in this climate after after what happened in l.a., an abundance of caution. we're live with the threat and the reaction. >> lots of reaction, dan, tonight. the school threat was not specific and tonight, officials calling it a hoax. >> at this point in time we have no reason to believe that the threat is credible whatsoever. >> san francisco school superintendent tried calming the

fears of the surprised parents after they received this voice mail today. >> staff received e-mail threats of violence similar to one received this week in los angeles, new york, dallas, miami and several cities. >> the superintendent says the threat was almost generic, sent by e-mail to five employees, no specific schools targeted. but the district alerted police and the fbi. staff at 130 stools made a sweep of campuses. >> several officers around 7:30 this morning were responding out to their schools. and meeting with their principals to make sure the word was out. >> all education sites have been swept, or scanned. and nothing suspicious found. >> los angeles unified chose to close schools after a violent threat was made there. san francisco schools stayed

earlier, officers focused on a car parked along the shoulder. the chp told us there is no threat to the general public. a new report by the metropolitan transportation commission shows how tough it is to get around the bay area. the report says two thirds of us drive alone, each day, to work, meaning more cars on the road. average commute time up to 30 minutes, with each person driving 23 miles per day. >> we know delays are more severe than before. freeway delays due to congestion increased nearly 40%. >> there is positive news. 12% relied on public transit
