>> that breaking news is happening where rescue crews announced they have found a smael plane that crashed right around noochb today. good afternoon, everybody. >> the plane was heading to oakland when it dropped off radar in the hills. dozens of crews have been searching. that's where abc 7 news reporter joins us live. janet? >> reporter: alma, that search has been going on for several hours now. an alameda county fire has just announced they have found the wreckage. the search crews are still out here. they found the aircraft in castor valley, searching a mile

up from where we are. so that gives you an idea of how vast the search area was. you can see from sky 7 hd that multiple agencies took part by looking on foot and using atvs because of that low visibility and this rainy weather, they were not able to use aircrafts. we have confirmed that the aircraft that went down is small, single engine aircraft. air traffic controllers lost contact about 12 miles east of oakland international around is 11:30 today. the pilot reported engine problems. right now, we have learned that they still have not found any signs of life. but they are still investigating that and they have secured the scene. alameda county sheriff's office is now going to be taking over. they are the lead agency on this case. and they are awaiting the faa, the federal aviation administration to come out here and investigate this crash.

>> take a look at video of light showers coming down in san jose. you can see people trying to stay dry with their umbrellas. but the big story today is the wind which is greating problems just about everybody where. >> this tree came down in san francisco. another tree blocked all lanes on park street in alameda. it took a few hours to clear that up. another one, a large tree that fell and crashed on to the roof of a house. thankfully, nobody there was injured: let's take a live look outside for our exploratorium camera. you can see some of the drops that are still on the lens there. >> spencer christian is here now with our accuweather up date and umbrella in hand. >> oh, yes. we've got a nice little steady shower going on here.

>> in petaluma, a horse was killed after being hit by a falling tree at the horse park on lake view highway. this happened around 7:30 in morning. several trees are downed including some on top of the horse stables. >> snow in the sierra means more water. since mid night monday, the lake has gone up almost 2 inches. that's the equivalent of adding almost 64 billion gallons of water. >> the next storm where you live, you can download it for free at abc7news.com. a 19-year-old is in jail this morning after police say he we believe the on a drunk driving rampage. >> reporter: larry and alma, abc

7 news has learned that prior to last night's crash, the suspect has.had two other warrants for his arrest. we were inside the courtroom this afternoon as the suspect faced the judge. san jose police say this man of san jose was behind the wleel of a black ford expedition at around 10:30 last night. responsible for a drunk driving rampage that went for a mile and a half. police tell us the destruction began here. the suspect hit one vehicle on his way out and another as he approached the expressway. according to police, he then drove south on center road hitting two parked cars before making a u-turn. the suspect then drove towards singleton drive, ran a red light and hit a beetle.

but it didn't end there. after striking that volkswagen, our suspect continues and struck another vehicle preparing to make a left turn. a total of six vehicles were struck by the suspect. the santa clara county coral r coroner's office identified the man. his next of kin has been notified. the suspect has been booked for felony drunk driving, hit and run and two previous warrants. he was arraigned in court today on unrelated battery and vandalism charges. >> antioch police are investigating whether rain was a factor that left two pedestrians hurt. police say the victims were walking in the road when they were hit. the driver is cooperating with investigators. >> oakland police are investigating a double homicide in west oakland.

it happened just before 89:00 last night. officers responded to a report of shots fired. they found two victims who died at the scene. oakland police had just confirmed 17-year-old torey of oakland and the other is a man in his 20s. >> measure news today about a san bernardino shooter. he said he planned a pilgrimage to saudi arabia and had arranged to meet members of his family. this comes from a letter farook wrote to support his application. >> japanese americans are x pressing their support for muslims. the day is responding to antimuslim sentiment increase following recent terror attacks. >> i'm very proud to be here today with the japanese american community. taking a stand to support

inspected, they have pulled four of those vehicles out of service. and the results of this inspection report include violations that extend to the bus drivers as well. chp found more than 60% of the city sightseeing tour buss get looked at had violations. >> they were potentially unsatisfactory across the board. that doesn't mean it's something that can't be fixed. >> he inspected six tour buss others than the bus that crashed in union square. he says the most significant violations were mechanical including nonworking brake lights, nonworking emergency exits and a loose steering component. >> other violations included city sightseeing not inspecting its own vehicles every 45 days. the report also detailed some drivers not being drug tested or background checked. the most significant paperwork violation since august of 2014, none of the companies drivers have been enrolled in what's

thanks for joining us for abc 7 news at 4:00. abc 7 news at 5:00 is turning right now in the direction of dan and alma. >> steep terrain. there's a lot of area to cover. >> breaking news in the east bay as a rescue turns into a recovery. what we have just learned about a small plane crash. plus. >> it was a loud crash. >> yeah, it was the sound of this tree falling and it wasn't the only one. >> we got heat, we just don't have power. >> also here tonight, the end of a three-year rein of terror. >> oftentimes, they would use juveniles to complete the crimes. >> abc 7 news starts right now. with live breaking news. >> flames can be seen through the thick canopy of trees. the fire pinpoints the wreckage of a small plane.

good evening and thanks for joining us tonight. >> emergency crews are trying right now to retrieve the wreckage. the plane was heading from lincoln to oakland. what's left of the plane was found west of the road between the hills of pleasant ton and union city. near that area now live with the very latest. >> and, dan, search crews found the wreckage of the plane about an hour ago. we have just confirmed that they have recovered a body near the wreckage. this is near castor valley, unincorporated alameda county. you can see from sky 7 hd that a piece of the airplane from the wreckage can be seen down below. you can also see flames erupted from the impact of the crash. air traffic controllers lost signal with the aircraft around 11:30 this morning. it was 12 miles east of oakland

international when the pilot apparently was having engine problems. but we are hearing from fire officials that the weather below visibility were also most likely factors in this skas. multiple agencies searched by foot and by atv for several hours. but the challenge today was the terrain and, again, the weather. low visibility but they were able to get the drones up, which helped them locate the wreckage. >> i can't tell you that the wreckage was a very steep, brush shi terrain. as a result of the search taking place by ground today, two firefighters recently have been -- reports of two firefighters who have been injured. >> the alameda county fire fighters are now being treated for minor injuries. they will be okay. we have also learned that the plane that went down is a single engine piper pa 32. again, only the pilot is believed to have been on board and believed to have perished in that crash. the federal aviation administra
