>> it's saturday, december 26th. good morning, thanks for joining us. i'm chris nguyen. let's start with the forecast on this holiday weekend. here's meteorologist lisa argen. she's tracking live doppler hd. good morning. >> good morning, chris. live doppler hd is clear. good other reason for that. we are freezing cold in parts baste area with clear sky and a lack of wind in some of our protected valleys is allowing for the freeze warning to last until 9:00, except for this narrow strip on the peninsula in the city of san francisco. scow we have widespread 30s, 40s, and in fact with freezing temperatures from our east bay, it's not only in the north bay and east bay. look at mountain view. 33 degrees. 32 in novato. 33 in concord. 34 in san ramon. so the wind is really keeping us cold but throughout the afternoon plenty of sunshine will warm us up.

but we have some rain to talk about for tomorrow. chris. >> we have breaking new out of southern california this morning. a stretch of the pacific coast highway in ventura is closed after a fast-moving brush fire broke out last night. it has burned 1,000 acres along highway 101 and it's threatening at least 30 homes. mandatory evacuations are in place for some areas. the cause of the fire is unknown at this time. stick with with abc7 news for updates on the story and follow us on twitter. now to breaking news out of the north bay. a fire start the at 2:30 this morning at the russian river health center. arrives were bursting through the front of the center and come out of the elevator shaft. they say there is extensive damage that will cost at least half a million dollars to fix. fortunately they were able to save some computers and medicine

supplies. no word on any injuries. 6:02, the time. police are investigating how a suspect who opened fire on a bart place officer may be connected to a body found inside a u-haul last night. it was at an east bay bart station. >> officials retrieved the body around 8:00 p.m. at the hayward bart station. that's the same place police say a minnesota opened fire on a bart police officer, who was injured. sergio quintana has the details. >> reporter: we watched at police officers pulled a shovel, gas canisters, some sandbags and several tarps from the bed of this u-haul rental truck and the body of a dead man. one officer saw something that didn't look like. >> one saw it was a u-haul with a smashed-out broken window and the suspect was walking away as he approached. >> the suspect is 28-year-old charles gedding, who is on probation. police were about to search him when he pulled a gun and fired, hitting one of the officers.

>> my officer produced his weapon and shot mr. gedding several times, and the two officers took mr. gedding into custody of the >> this person and her dad saw what happened and began helping the officer who was hit. >> we were taking off his jacket to see what happened. my dad got the gloves, like maybe to take off his shirt and see where the bullet landed. >> the policeman was hit in the arm and treated and released from the eden valley medical hospital. it's the same hospital where the suspect was taken. he is facing several charges. abc7 news. abc7 news. developing news out of palo alto this morning. police are investigating a shooting involving an officer. it happened just before 9:30 last night near forest and

middle field. police received the call of a disturbance on middle avenue where a person wanted to hurt someone. when officers arrived, a suspect charged at them armed with a knife. officers then opened fire. paramedics rushed the suspect to the hospital where they later died. no officers were hurt in the incident. >> in san jose police are looking for the drive of a car that hit a woman walking. it happened just before 6:30 last night. the victim was taken to the hospital for treatment. at this time her condition is unknown. >> a motorcycle rider who led police open a chase on the peninsula was arrested after crashing his bike. it happened yesterday in redwood city. police say the biker was wanted for a felony warrant. he led officers on a high-speed chase through several res exception neighborhoods before crashing. police tell us he was not injured. in pacifica, this is all that's left of two cars. two people died in this accident when a driver going the wrong way on highway plowed head

open into an upper car. the collision happened around 2:30 yesterday morning near paw loma avenue. investigators say the wrong way driver, as well as the uber driver, a man in his about mid-20s, were both killed. they believe the peak in the uber car was not wearing a seatbelt. take a look at the surveillance video captured 3:00 yesterday morning at a san francisco optometry office. the man in the santa hat was trying to break into the business with a set of keys he stole several hours from a hillsboro home he burglarized. he went into a unlocked car parked in hillsboro and he used the garage door opener in the car to get into the home where he stole several items, including the keys to the family business. >> it's unfortunate this grinch came along today and perform performed this act. the one thing you can do is remove any valuable items from your vehicle. any items at all. >> the burglar entered the office. it's not clear whether he took

anything. hillsboro police say they are compiling more video clips from the area to identify the suspect. this morning there's mass destruction on the streets of birmingham, alabama after tornadoes went through the center. and that's not flooding from the recent rain. a property the main break turned these streets in san francisco into a river yesterday. that be sent thousand of gallons of water gushing with a towardsteiner and union. one took advantage to clean the streets. >> we have such a drought the

>> welcome back, everyone. time is 6:13. we are taking a live look outside. cameras pointed at the embarcadero center. financial district of san francisco. the lights will soon gone. enjoy them while you can. developing news now a brush fire near melbourne, australia, has destroyed more than 100 homes. about 1600 residents in torres have been evacuated. firefighters are struggling to keep the fire under control. it started last saturday, but strong winds and high temperatures in recent days have intensified the fire, which has

burned nearly 5500 acres so far. organizers of the falls music and arts festival may cancel the event because of the fire. more than 15,000 people are expected to attend. a two-alarm fire at a mosque in houston, texas has caused major damage. the fire started yesterday afternoon at the islamic society of greater houston. a pharmacy next door also had smoke damage. the cause of the fire has not been determined yet, but officials believe there are multiple origins of the fire, and because of that they are investigating it as suspicious. some who pray at the mosque fear it was an act of hate. no injuries have been reported. police in hope, arkansas are treating a fire at the boyhood home of president bill clinton as an arson. the fire caused minor damage to the home. firefighters smelled gasoline when they first arrived and investigators said someone sprayed graffiti on the building.

the national park the storm struck friday operates and maintains the site which was originally owned by clinton's grandparents. the president lived in the home for parts of his childhood. some fed ex employees had to skip their christmas celebrations at home to deliver late packages yesterday. they worked extra hours to help the company manage late shipments that didn't arrive in time for christmas morning. bad with weather at an air hub kept a number of flights grounded this week. they also dealt with a surge of deliveries from online shopping orders. >> santa had some special helpers yesterday the dozens of letter carriers planned to sort the bail. they wanted to deliver every piece of express priority mail to every home in san jose yesterday. all around the bay area and all around the world millions celebrated christmas day yesterday. abc news reporter elizabeth herr has more on the christmas

increasing at this time and then a little bit of rain coming your way perhaps tomorrow. but we are talking about the freezing cold. a freeze warning continues except for san francisco, and the peninsula coastline until 9:00. we have the temperatures in the 40s with a little bit of wind out of the northwest for some areas. but, boy, look at mountain view and half moon bay. chilly at 41. morgan hill 38. the clear sky, the cold air mass and lack of wind in parts of the bay. it it is cold. 34 in santa rosa. the numbers continue to drop for you. it's freezing in novato, just above freezing in concord. livermore dropped another degree at 35. good morning to you fairfield. the wind gusts of 21 miles an hour out of the north is keeping it cold in fairfield. but with a little bit of mixing in the atmosphere, you are in the 40s. so it's chilly all around the bay. and 24 hours ago in some spots we weren't as cold. but from novato to concord to the coast it's colder this morning. we are going to keep with the

cold snap and perhaps freezing temperatures through sunday morning as well for some areas and that will begin to modify things after a weak weather system hits our way tomorrow. we have the forecast for the rest of the year coming your way, as well. we are freezing this morning. we have showers arriving for some. it's a weak system and a dry pattern. unfortunately it lasts after that. so for oakland today, it's going to be a day where you are going to need the jacket at 57 degrees. tomorrow night quite as warm and monday looks to be the coolest day and the temperatures slowly modify throughout the en. of the year. that's the temperature profile. what about the precip? in san francisco you will notice we have a 60% chance of rain tomorrow. doesn't mean you are going to see it, but it means that out of the next seven days, actually monday is your only -- sunday is your only chance of showers. we talked about the cloud cover tomorrow, 10:00. but as we cycle through the next several hours it's 2:00 we will

with all the rain we've seen lately, it begs the question is it having any impact on the drought? abc reporter david louie looks at reservoir levels and why they don't seem to be rising. >> reporter: it's not as simple as filling a bathtub. a reservoir can store 19,000-acre feet of water, yet it's only at 13% of capacity. the rainfall we've had is getting absorbed by the drought-parched soil and not releasing run off. the water district board said rainfall across the state is crucial since only a fraction of the supply is captured and stored here. >> it's stored in san luis reservoir, which is that big reservoir you see he when you are driving to los angeles. a lot is stored in shasta dam. our storage here locally it's small and don't forget because of the seismic issue at anderson

most part. so it is a cold start. from our exploratoriual camera, we have morris clear sky to show you. freezing temperatures in spots the next couple of days. but then increasing clouds for your day tomorrow will lead to a slight chance of a shower. not everyone will see them. we will look for a dry pattern then for the rest of 2015. so not what you want to hear, but when you look at the next seven days here, you will notice that we are getting milder in oakland and elsewhere throughout the upcoming work week. so if you think it's cold today, it will be a little cooler the next few days. then the numbers modify, perhaps near 60 degrees on new year's day. rain chances in san francisco, just at about 60% tomorrow. it's going to take all day for some of you to see just a spotty shower. it's nothing to write home about. 10:00 a few clouds around. by 1:00 we have rain from cloverdale to ukiah. by about 3:00, 4:00, maybe a spotty shower on the east bay and on the peninsula by 5:00.

headline back east. kind of a strange year. >> thank you. turning to sports now, the warriors are off until monday night when they host the sacramento kings at oracle arena. yesterday the dubs won their 32nd straight home game against the cavaliers. it was a game you saw right here on abc7. here's rick with the highlights in this morning's sports report. >> reporter: good morning. when the warriors won the nba championship the cavs were without kevin love and irving missed all the games except one. yesterday they were back in the lineup and golden state still came out on top. even santa had trouble getting a ticket to this game. despite being bothered with a calf injury, steph curry makes this three. draymond green had 10 points the first quarter. this game was close throughout. lebron james with the floater ties it at 33. irving missed most the finals with a knee injury, but is getting back into form. the warriors only led by three at the half.

golden state tries to pull away in the third. klay thompson gets the rebound and puts it back up and in. james turning the ball over. curry brings it up and dishes to green, who throws it down the chimney. draymond with 22 points and 15 boards. lebron led cleveland with 25 points. makes a tough jumper. the warriors got a huge living from shaun livingston and came off the bench and scored 16. golden state threatening to to break it open but lebron had back-to-back dunks. but it's curry with the answer. the warriors had their lowest-scoring game of the season, but hold off the cavaliers 89-83. they are now 28-1. it's their 32nd straight win at home. >> the playoff basketball for the most part. we proved ourselves we can win games like that last season and kind of what you saw getting comfortable being uncomfortable. that's how i can put it. >> a tight atmosphere and a huge honor to be one of the teams used to playing at christmas, especially at home, and we feed off our crowd's energy. >> deep in the heart of texas.

houston played host to san antonio. the spurs have the second best record in the league. leonard is the big reason why. the steal and dunk. he scored a team high 20. to 30-year-old tim duncan is not the player he once was but gets this basket, butting the lead to one. fourth quarter now. james hard he got hot. knocks down the three to put houston up by 8. fear the beard, harden hits again. the rockets snapped the spurs' seven-game win streak. 88-84. san antonio to yes is still 25-6 overall. the college football bowl season resumes today with six games on tap, including the foster farms bowl at levi's stadium. ucla is a 6 1/2 point favorite to beat nebraska. the cornhuskers only went 7-5, but lost four games in the final game of the regulation in overtime. bruins have a chance to finish 9-4. >> it would give us a chance to win 38 games in four years
