walnut creek camera as the east bay gets ready for another freeze. abc7 news meteorologist drew tuma is here to tell us how gold it's going to get. >> as the sun has set, the numbers are dropping as we speak. currently 46 in oakland right now. san jose, a cool temperature of 47 degrees. currently 43 in napa and a chilly 41 in livermore. tonight, temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s, the freeze warning in effect begins at midnight, including all locations except the coast and san francisco, where we could see the freeze damage to sensitive plants, tomorrow we are tracking a little bit of rain, minimal storm, one on the storm impact scale but will bring wet weather. we'll go hour-by-hour on future weather coming up. >> thank you. as drew mentioned, that chill will be felt just about everywhere in the bay area.

we have team coverage live in walnut creek with how people are staying warm. >> reporter: temperatures are dropping but it's not stopping people front getting outside and enjoying the holiday weather and this weekend. look behind me. the walnut creek ice skating rink. folks have been packing the place all day long and automatic day long it has been cold in the east bay. here's video taken from earlier today. black ice covered part of the road and patches of ice in the exist off highway 24, and in lafayette, homes hat white rooftops. in well nut creek a water main burst downtown on bonanza street. the cold temperature may be to blame nor pipe break. crews worked until also while ago repairing the pipe and the street. the recommendation is to wrap your pipes when it gets this

that's good. so more of the crop has been harvested. the sugar content of the fruit is also higher, which helps better protect it from the cold. developing news out of ventura county where a 45-mile-per-hour santa ana winds whipping up a wildfire burning since last night north of ventura. a 15-mile stretch of highway 101 re-opened this afternoon. i was closed almost immediately after a duned pour line sparked the fire. nearly 60 homes in the solimar beach community are under mandatory evacuation. >> a very dynamic fire. fire is going to resist our control because we're at the end of the drought, not out of the woods yet. >> more than 600 firefighters and four aircraft are battling the wildfire. now just 10% contained. happening now. east and south of sacramento, mean club after two tornadoes

touched down on christmas eve. one hit in modesto, the other in el dorado hills. that's the twister here. reporter francis wong shows despite damage, business owners are picking up the pieces and trying to get back to normal. >> didn't care enough to do anything yesterday because it was christmas. >> reporter: for a guy whose business got hit bay tornado on his day off -- >> this morning i was there at the crack of dawn. >> reporter: you can see he is just as jolly as saint nick. >> it's all over the place. >> reporter: literally. the roof, front porch, railings, blown every by the christmas eve tornado. still he is choosing to see the silver lining of this funnel cloud. >> it was a dry day yesterday, so most of the stuff dried up. the carpets and things are still wet. >> reporter: you can see the extent of the damage behind the building. the front porch here flew over the rooftop.

palo alto. it happened last night at a home for people with drug and mental health issues on fourth avenue in palo alto. today police tape marks the spot where it happened. we're near the scene. police have just released some new information about what led up to that shooting. >> reporter: police say that the person who was shot is the one who called 9-1-1 in the first place. they suspect he was waiting for officers to arrive armed with a knife. this residential health facility looks like any other house on this palo alto street. it takes in men and women with mental health issues for treatment programs. christmas night, palo alto police were called here for a disturbance. they shot and killed the suspect, who they say charged at officers with a knife. >> we heard gunshots, and we immediately just turned off all the lights and went to the back of the house because we were scared. >> reporter: police sale the person shot was the one who

called 9-1-1. he allegedly called in a false emergency to summon officers there. neighbors describe the center run by a group as transitional housing. >> most of the people who are paroled there are very respectful and they're very good neighbors. rot rot a resident two did not want to be on camera told me the person who was shot was a patient and that the man had been living there for only a few days. she described him as being off. she says other residents saw him armed with a butter knife. a neighbor heard staff members trying to calm the man down, then gunfire. she comforted one of the workers sitting out front. >> he appeared to be very distressed and he just kept going on, they didn't need to shoot him. >> the suspect died after being taken to the hospital. the district attorney's office is investigating. in palo alto, abc7 news. >> a driver blamed trouble with his steering wheel for an dent that damaged two homes in
