san ramon and livermore with numbers in the upper 20s from novato, santa rosa and napa. 31 agree not, san jose and mountain view with a chilly 30 in los gatos, 35 on the coast. with 40 in san francisco, it doesn't feel too bad here. but everyone much, much colder due to the lack of wind. so temperatures will continue to drop further. perhaps some records san rafael and mountain view. in the mid-20s san rafael. maybe upper 20s in mountain view. we will look for sunshine today but with increasing clouds, some of you looking at a few showers. cornell. >> lisa, thank you very much. when you get unusual weather where you live, take a photo or video and share it with us using the #abc7now. >> nine people are recovering after a tour bus crash last night. only people on the bottom level of the bus were hurt.

abc7 news reporter lisa amin gulezian has the details. >> reporter: the tour bus came to a screeching halt after the driver of this black s.u.v. crashed into the double-decker. the driver made a sudden turn in front of the bus, cutting the bus path off, and the driver applied the brakes. of course, we had impact to the bus and the vehicle. >> the embarcadero lit up as police and medics quickly arrived. people rushed out of restaurants to find out what was going on >> there were a lot of police cars, people being put on to ambulances. some were treated immediately on the sidewalk before taken to the hospital. the majorities of victims suffered minor injuries. the most severe injury was a broken ankle. the driver of the big bus and the driver of the s.u.v. were tested for drugs and alcohol. both passed. big bus's general manager said the tour company driver has a

solid record. >> our driver is fine. a little bit shaken up, but totally fine. >> a veteran driver? >> been doing it for quite a long time. >> about how long? >> about two years. >> the driver will be cited for making an improperly change. in san francisco, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> and yesterday's crash comes more than a month after another accident involving a san francisco tour company. last week the california highway patrol released their findings into the november about 13th crash of a city sightseeing bus in union scare. the chp sighted the company for numerous mechanical issues on their fleet and 20 people were hurt in that incident. a popular restaurant on bay street closed after a fire saturday night. christine mason in our abc7 new community took this video of the fire on the roof of the elephant bar at the bay street shopping center be around 5:30.

smoke and flames could be seen from interstate 80. they say the fire started in the kitchen. nobody was hurt. thanks to christine for sharing this video on our social media. if you see news are you live, post it with the #abc7now. new details of a shooting of a man by a police officer. he was a resident of a halfway home where it happened. the resident who didn't want to be identified said a 31-year-old man checked into the home only three days before friday's incident. they believe he reported a false emergency to 911 dispatchers for officers would response. the man told the dispatcher there was a person who wanted to hurt someone at their home on forest avenue. >> and our officers responded. as soon as the first units arrived and got out of their cars, the suspect charged at officers while wielding a knife. two officers fired their pistols. >> both palo alto police and

the santa clara county district attorney's office are investigating the fatal shooting. the medical examiner is working on and confirming the man's identity. walnut creek police are asking people who witnessed the beating outside mel's diner to contact officials. this man was arrested for seriously injuring another person last sunday. police believe there are more witnesses to the attack and they would like to interview them. damaged homes and smashed cars. a driver blames trouble with his steering wheel for losing control of his car in milpitas. the car first pushed an s.u.v. into a garage on badgerwood lane. the driver lost control again while backing up. his car then hit a home and ruptured a water pipe. nobody was hurt. police tell us the driver is cooperating with investigators. if you received one of this year's hottest christmas gifts, watch out. many are being treated for serious injuries. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana tells us why bay area doctors are warning about hover boards. >> in internet video after

control. >> they recommended using a skateboard helmet, pads and guards. it's advice other some people aren't following. >> you know, it's a new toy, it's fun, what can happen? >> there is a blotter of spills and injuries from people across the country. sergio quintana, abc7 news. the faa is concerned with an estimated purchase of 1 million drones this holiday season. the agency worries there will be more trouble in the skies and on the ground. drones can and do drop from the sky, posting a great risk to traffic and pedestrian. operators take risk when flying them into prohibited airspace. they cannot be flown within five miles of an airport or above 400 feet. pilots have reported an increase in drone sightings. happening today the islamic center of almeda plans to hold on open forum to stand against hate crimes. in tracey a prominent islamic relations group is calling for an investigation after a

suspected molotov cocktail event at the center in the morning. these are photos sent to us of the building's exterior. they want the incident investigated as a hate crime. in texas federal investigators believe someone may have set fire that gut add mosque on friday afternoon. you can see some of the damage inside the mosque in houston. atf agents say the fire started in several places. the fire broke out after about 200 muslims had just finished fray protege islamic society of houston. >> when i left there, everything was fine. there were a whole bunch of people. >> burned chairs, burned synogogue going or a burned temple, it's not good to see it like that. >> nobody was hurt in the fire. tragedy did not stop mosque members from praying together. they met in a nearby banquet hall yesterday. developing news out of north

texas. authorities say there's a substantial tornadoes damage in dallas. the dallas-fort worth area. this video shot south of dallas shows the enormity of a funnel cloud each time lightning strikes. take a look at all of this destruction. 8 people confirmed dead mainly from storm-related traffic accidents. the severe weather death toll stands at 24 across the south in less than a week. we will have the damages on the latest in mississippi, alabama and arkansas coming up later in the newscast. this morning a freeze warning is in effect throughout parts of the bay area. black ice covered parts of tahoes drive. here it really looked like winter. homes had white rooftops yesterday morning, and daring east bay residents refused to let the cold snap keep them from celebrating the holidays. i'm freezing. it's very cold out here, but we are having a good time letting the kids play. >> why not just stay inside? >> just want to celebrate winter right now.

peyton manning denied he used human growth hormone back in 2011 when he was recovering from surgery in indianapolis. that is from a report said to air on al-jazeera. the report claims manning received hgh, which the nfl has banned, through his wife so his name was never associated with the shipments. in a statement, manning said the allegation is, quote, complete garbage and is totally made up. it never happened, never. unquote. it also names phillies first baseman ryan howard and nationals indeeder ryan zimmerman, and boxer mike tyson, who reportedly received hgh shipments. southern california brush fire from shut down a stretch of the pacific coast highway is no longer spreading this morning. a terrifying scene in southern

california. winds whipped the fire along the ventura county coast. u.s. highway 101 reopened yesterday afternoon. the fire broke out late friday night when winds battered the coast. >> a downed power line was the cause for this incident. we can surmise the winds certainly had something to do with it but that's our primary cause. >> 400 firefighters have been battling the fire. it burned more than 1200 acres but luckily no homes were damaged. containment is at 60% this morning. two firefighters are recovering from minor injuries. it. >> in illinois chicago police say an officers fatally shot a mother of five children by accident when they were checking out a domestic dispute. it happened on the south side yesterday morning. both people killed were african-american. the family of the man killed by police said he had emotional problems. yesterday's shooting comes as chicago police face a federal civil rights probe following the deadly shooting of a black teenager caught on video.

>> san francisco firefighters made a citizen arrest after witnessing a woman break a car window and steal a bag. it was in the south of market neighborhood at tenth and fullsome streets where it happened after 10:30 yesterday morning. the fire crew chased the woman down, held her until officers arrived. many people planning a vacation soon in the new year, some children in tow. if they are babies they can still sit in our lap on the plane. however, a bay area couple got a rude surprise at the airport. michael finney helped them out of a jam. >> joaquin of berkeley couldn't wait to take his wife and baby to his homeland of argentina. >> to get to know my family better. >> the baby sat on her parents lap the whole plane ride to buenos aires. >> we brought a bag full of toys, pencils. >> during the visit she reached a big milestone. she served two. >> so we celebrated in buenos aires. my family was there, friends. >> her birthday loomed even

larger when the family tried to get home. >> they noticed she was over two. >> the couple was stopped at the miami airport. the airport said she could no longer sit on their lap. she had to buy a ticket. >> we said she's over two but she falls under the ticket we bought in september. >> the federal law says only babies under age two can fly on a parent's lap. what happens if they have a birthday while they travel? joaquin asked american airline that very question before he booked. an agent said she could fly both ways on the lap since she was under two before the trip began. still the agent at the airport said buy a ticket or she doesn't fly. >> then we ended paying for a ticket there. >> he demanded a refund and got nowhere. he contacted 7 on your side and we found out the american airlines has a specific policy. babies who sit in the parents' lap and turn two during the travel will receive a free

ticket for the return flight. a travel agent booked the including a free ticket for the baby. however they did refund with a voucher for a future flight. one they are about ready to take. >> by law she had to sit in her own seat on the flight home. the travel agent did not request that free return flight for the child. make sure your agent knows about special fares or book directly with the airline. i'm michael finney, "7 on your side." >> michael, thank you. gas prices are soaring across california. they aren't going up as fast as anywhere else in the country. experts blame a shortage caused by unplanned refinery issues in the state. a gas analyst told the media partner, the bay area news group, that prices should continue to climb. according to triple-a the average price in the north bay is $2.68, $2.69 in oakland, $2.70 in san jose and san francisco, of course, the most expensive in the bay area,

with an average cost of $2.78 for a regular gallop of gasoline. last year at this time prices were about the same except in the city, where it was eight cents higher. welcome to california. it's been freezing out there. we've been talking about the chilly weather all morning. >> colder here than buffalo, new york. >> crazy. >> yeah, it's kind of out of control. we will show you some rain in a minute. we are going to cut right through the chase and show you the temperatures in the low 30s and upper 20s from morgan hill to san jose and mountain view. i think mountain view could see a record. we are looking at the warm spot san francisco at 41. records potentially as the numbers continue to drop. how about half moon bay at 34 degrees? but it gets better or worse. here's a look at san jose where the delta now is the cold spot at 26 degrees. 27 in novato, 28 in livermore. napa, santa rosa, 31 concord. so the sun comes up at 7:24.

we get our coldest temperatures before sunrise but it will be after 8:00 when some of the numbers begin to recover. we are likely to see 25, 24 degrees in some lock. we will probably break a few records and then we look at slowly warming temperatures for the rest of the year. 4 degrees cooler this year for the city. parts of the peninsula. mountain view was pretty cold yesterday. but this morning it's antioch, oakland, san jose, and even napa without your wind, that light wind allowing for the temperatures to plummet. radiational cooling. the skies are so clear and you likely got a lot of frost on your windshield this morning. so with the freeze warning until 9:00, except for the city of san francisco, it's still cold there. we are looking at the cold just sticking around. in fact the clouds on the way really won't begin to increase until the afternoon but we have sunshine in morgan hill and for the bulk of the day in san jose, as well. it's because not only is the weather system weak, it's still

pretty far away. as you notice not a lot of moisture associated it. it will continue to drop to the south and east. increase the clouds. give us a few showers. maybe a couple hundred dreads and that's it for 2015. we will look for the next significant system the first week of january. it's not unusual to have the mid-winter dry spells, and that's exactly what we are having comedies into january. for most of you off this next week, it will warm up. the rain is still well to the north in cloverdale, santa rosa. the south bay and the peninsula, you are sunny for the bulk of the day. 5:00 a few showers from emeryville to oakland. maybe around belmont. by 9:00 we still have more showers. all around the bay they are spotty and light. we will look for the midnight hour, and also have some wet weather. so in terms of amounts, yeah, not very much. anywhere from a couple hundred

>> good morning, everybody. we are starting this half-hour with a look at the weather. here's meteorologist lisa argen. lisa, it's cold out there. >> it certainly is. a freeze warning until 9:00. 26 by the delta. the record in san jose is 24. that's not likely but the record in mountain view is 28. you could see a record. records are in the mid-20s. 30 in oakland. yeah, you have dropped significantly in the past hour. mid-30s on the coast. 31 san francisco. so all of these numbers represent anywhere from 4 to perhaps 14 degrees colder this morning than you were 24 hours ago. so this cold snap and does last throughout the day, and the winter -- the freeze warning until 9:00. we will talk about the forecast coming up, with i includes new

year's eve. cornell. >> lisa, thank you. developing news in the south this morning where at least eight people are dead in texas after devastating tornadoes touched down in the dallas area. abc news reporter chuck sievertson reports. this has been a dangerous weekend of holiday weather in much of the country. >> a tornado strike in the dallas area. at least four people reported killed as police and fire units scramble to do search and rescue. >> everything is gone over here downstairs. >> homes destroyed by a storm that menaced communities. in alabama the day after christmas this santa's-eye view shows the aftermath of a view that will be hard to forget. >> we were in the house having a good time, laughing and joking about memories of our family through the years. >> a quiet christmas at home suddenly became a fight for survival. >> everybody said, tornadoes, get down! and the lights went out. we all fell to the floor. >> the holiday temperatures have been treacherously pleasant,

flights grounded last week. fedex also dealt with a surge in deliveries from online shopping orders. business owners are picking up the pieces after two tornadoes touched down near sacramento on christmas eve. one hit in modesto. the other shown in this video eldorado hills. one owner stayed away from his business on christmas day but came out yesterday morning to start the clean up. the tornado ripped the roof off its business, the front porch and railings. >> every month at the end of the month registrations are due so i definitely didn't want to be out of business today. my landlord spoke with me and asked me to shut down but i think it's inconvenient for all the the people who were going to come here. >> it also tore apart the electrical panel. smog king is servicing customers using a generator at least for the next couple of days. an unnamed intelligence service warned several european cities they may be at risk for possible terrorist attacks. it would involve explosives or guns. the attacks could occur sometime between now and new year's eve.

>> a chance of rain and a record with these temperatures this morning. we thin to drop with the numbers mainly in the 20s. and our north bay and east bay interior valley. san rafael, oakland, richmond and mountain view could all see records shattered this morning. as you look outside from mt. tam, here are some of the warmer cities with san francisco leading at 41. everyone under a freeze warning except for san francisco and the peninsula with numbers 15 degrees colder away from downtown. 30 in oakland. that is a record. 31 in mountain view. 31 san jose. you would have to make it into the mid-20s to see some records in the south bay. morgan hill, i think you would have to go down to 24. it's 29 right now. 34 in half moon bay. and from our roof camera, the cities even colder this morning at 28 santa rosa. napa, novato. fairfield 26. you are about 40 yesterday with the northwest wind. 31 concord and 28 in livermore. so some of your neighborhoods likely could be colder and i

continue to see some of your tweets and pictures. it's certainly some of the coldest weather we've seen in quite some time. with the dry air mass in place and no wind at all. low dewpoints and numbers 12 degrees cooler from san jose and antioch. everyone experiencing the cold snap until 9:00. the freeze warning in effect with numbers in the 20s and 30s and the possibility you could even get hypothermia if you stay out there for an extended period of time. so with that said, we also have some rain on the way. it's just a little bit of rain. you can see it here along the northwest coast. it will continue to slide to the south and east. and with it just some very light shower activity for the late afternoon in the north bay. it will take all day and the evening hours for the rest of us to get wet. when we see the wet weather, it won't be much. just a tenth, perhaps, to .2-inch in the westest locations. we remain dry through the end of the year. we can call this our midwinter

dry spell that can last from a week to two weeks. and we get back into the rain, looks like perhaps january 5th the next chance of significant precip. we will have to keep our fingers crossed. the south bay and east bay remains sunny underred partly cloudy skies in the arnold. 2:00 rain from cloverdale to santa rosa. and then perhaps in vallejo and the east bay toward the evening hours. it stays with us throughout the later evening and overnight hours some spotty showers. very light and by midnight still a few showers are possible. so amounts nothing too impressive. in fact, we are looking at amounts anywhere from about a tenth, if you are lucky on the coast. otherwise less than that. that translates into about an inch or two in the sierra nevada. certainly icy with some low snow levels along the north coast. we will look for numbers today to be below average with just 52 in livermore and san francisco. probably not even 50 up in parts of the north bay.

here's the winning numbers from last night's $255 million power ball draw. nobody picked all six. wednesday night's jackpot sky rockets to $300 million. disneyland fans prepare for a portion of the park to close as it makes room for star wars land. starting next month ten attractions will close, some temporarily, some permanently, to build the new 14-acre star wars land. the park will permanently close thunderland, the petting zoo and big barbecue restaurant and another area had next month. opening day for "star wars" land has not yet been announced.
