supply in a year. >> we still need a solid four months of storm activities to have decent recovery. let alone, some left at the end of the season. >> californians holding out hope that el nino will deliver. chris nguyen, abc7 news. here in the bay area, we found frost covering lawns and cars in san jose this morning. one driver had to scrape his windshield and said it's becoming a regular thing. >> i do it every day, every morning. >> and a nearby nursery, vendors covered plants to protect them from frost. and abc7 news was at the embarcadero this afternoon. and weeks of rain are bringing down trees made fragile by years of drought. the rest of santa rosa, a 90 foot tree crushed a car. take a look at that. it's one of two trees that fell.

but police say the robber went to great lengths not to leave behind fingerprints. investigators know there is someone out there who knows who he is. he breaks in because it's 3:30 in the morning at the district is closed but there are employees inside. >> he makes a point to crouch down and wait for them. so they can move to the back. so he won't be seen and that way, employees won't know and alert other staff members. >> he takes employees by surprise, simulating that he has a gun, then, he goes to the safe and the cash register. the robber left with $1200. police say he committed robbery, false imprisonment and kidnapping. >> the next time, maybe somebody might resist and might not believe he's carrying a weapon. and there might be a weapon that is there. someone might be killed, or

ten bank heists over eight years, recently in september. he hands tellers a note, and claims to be armed. >> he appears to be targeting banks in asian communities. specifically, chinatown, and the clement street area. >> the fbi is seeking help identifying these robbers that hit a campbell branch on south bascum avenue. this is video showing the robbers with guns in hand. they're wearing masks that cover up their facial features. >> one suspect forced employees to open the vault. money from the vault was placed in a black bag and a bag described as a blue, reusable grocery bag. >> the robbers used two get away vehicles, first getting into of a vw jetta. they dumped it, and got into a green truck. the fbi says bank robberies or n

abc7 news spoke with a relative on the telephone. >> she loved kids and just being around her, she's very spiritual. and i don't ever imagine her doing anything like this. at all. >> she has been booked into jail for murder and will be arraigned tomorrow. a strange twist in the case of a little girl in livermore whose mother died on christmas day from complications of diabetes. a judge decided the 6-year-old should be under the care of child protective services despite requests from her father and grandmothers to release her, here is lyanne. >> reporter: the 6-year-old girl won over the hearts of firefighters. the day after, they delivered boxes of gifts. child protective services asked not to show her face.

her grandmother who lives in florida went to court to ask for custody. >> we have a large network of family that will love her and guide her. and we, cavable of doing that. >> the child's estranged faj, who lives in colorado also petitioned for custody and would not talk to us about the case. the mom, 39-year-old angela moved from florida to california. mes say she'd run away from a domestic violence situation with the girl's father. >> i am fearful because i understand the state of california usually will give a child to the biological parent. >> reporter: the 6-year-old is living with a foster family and today, a judge ruled that the child will remain with that family until all of the parties involved, including her father are investigated. it was not the outcome her father or her grandmother wanted. the little girl's family argued leaving her in foster care would do more damage than good.

another custody hearing is scheduled for january 20th. in san leandro, abc7 news. new at 6:00 a showdown is brewing in the south bay over youth soccer field the nfl is planning to use during super bowl 50. there is a temporary restraining order to protect the turf from damage. the complaint is claiming the st i broke the law when it agreed to close the entire youth soccer park without public debate. the plan is for the nfl to cover the fields and build a village. the niners and nfl said they'll replace the fields after february 28th. now, they haven't said how long it will take. >> there are cancelled new year festivities in belgium's capitol after officials discovered a plot to attack sites on new year's eve.
