santa rosa. so 24 hours ago we were much colder, much warmer this morning, so easier to take. before the afternoon plenty of cloud cover, could see a stray shower on the coast, otherwise low 50s today. we will talk about the rain coming up. chris. >> thank you. a bay area teacher has been accused of molesting a student. we are hearing from stunned parents and students of the sudden arrest t happened on the campus of fairfield high school. we have more. >> he taught chemistry and integrated science. >> reporter: andrea said 27-year-old eric hankins was her chemistry teach everybody at fairfield high school. >> he got along well with the students. he talked to us a lot too. he was really friendly. >> this was his first year at fairfield high, but it didn't last long. he was aa rested on new year's eve and charged with lewd and lou sidious behavior with a 14-year-old student. police say it happened on campus

in early december. >> how does something like that happen on campus? that shouldn't be happening. >> hankins was placed on administrative leave until his arrest. >> a few days ago i received an e-mail from another chemistry teacher saying he's no longer going to be our teacher and he will be taking over for us. >> to know that someone was taking advantage of their privileges and rights as a teacher is disgusting. >> police also searched his home for evidence of an ongoing relationship with the student. >> the fairfield unified school district was unavailable for comment. meanwhile investigators are still asking the public for more information about this incident. in fairfield, alan wang, abc7 news. >> this morning a man and a woman are facing felony charges after a skinny dipping adventure at an upscale wine hotel was turned to the police. >> the police were called when they saw two people jumping the

fence into their pool area. the two were drunk and vandalized the property. police said when they tried to stop the pair, the man struggled with an officer and they used a stun gun to subdue him. authorities of trying to determine why a feds who was killed last night was walking on a san jose freeing. the chp said the 65-year-old man was walking on the transition ramp from southbound 280 to sound bound 101 when he was hit by at least one car. it closed two lanes for about two hours. the driver of the car was not injured. alcohol does not appear to have played a factor in the crash. also in san jose, a woman who was stabbed tuesday night in an attack that left two people hurt has died. sky 7hd gas overhead when police cop verged on the shopping center. several men attacked the couple at a carl's jr. restaurant. the woman was stabbed in the neck. the than is still in critical condition. police say they made some

arrests in the incident but have not released their identities. a family in vallejo is homeless after an early fire new year's morning destroyed their home. the sound of crackling flames woke them up and they raced out just in the nick of time. it started in a back unit built over the garage and spread to the front unit. the family lost everything. an estimated $300,000 worth of items, including the christmas presents. >> it was like an explosion. first aves crackle and then it was, bam! >> fortunately no one was hurt. red cross helped with providing essential supplies the family stayed with relatives last night. >> the new year has begun and there are 807 new laws that too effect yesterday in california. they include an increase in the minimum wage from nine dollars to ten dollars an hour.

with poor air quality in the santa clara valley. bonus today with mid and high-level clouds. we are much warmer, 39 morgan hill. elsewhere look at all the 40s not only san francisco but oakland 44. 42. and 48 on the coast. the roof camera, the winds are light. still an offshore flow with very little fixing and that's why things are stagnate out there. that's going to change. 35 in santa rosa, 40 napa, 38 novato, 37 in fairfield. we are looking at 40s in san jose, as i said works temperatures anywhere from 3 to 14 degrees warmer. mainly you are feeling that in the north bay where it's been so frigid, all the frost around. didn't have to scrape the windshield this morning. not as cold but late evening showers possible. wet pattern begins tomorrow with several days of wet weather. your commute will be impacted for several days. we are still going to see the low snow levels in the sierra nevada. we will fast forward to later on this afternoon where we have

partly cloudy conditions. we are dry, but then throughout, say, 10:00, 11:00, some rain on the coast. this is not going to reach, most likely, our inland valleys. the winds will shift to the south so we will be milder. but as we go through the sunday time period early, you notice still the focus is in the north bay and scattered showers to throughout the afternoon tomorrow and into your monday morning. so you put together late together, into monday morning, and rainfall amounts not bad. nothing huge, though, we are still talking about perhaps a half-inch in napa to better than that in san francisco, san carlos, a third and .2 in san jose and livermore. we are picking this up on monday afternoon. notice we still have showers around. but look what happens monday night into your tuesday morning commute that. first wave, very windy conditions. then wednesday morning check it out, wednesday afternoon, more rain, and into thursday still some showers. so we are adding the rainfall totals from monday afternoon

an israeli arab. his man identified him after seeing the footage. the tel aviv mayor said it appears to be an act of terrorism. >> developing news out of france. three people are hurt after soldiers opened fire at a mosque they were guarding yesterday. one of the three is a soldier. officials are calling it a surprising incident. a person drove toward the soldiers and knocked them to the ground. they told the driver to stop and when any didn't, the soldiers started shooting. the officials have not yet identified the suspect who was shot in the arm and leg. in san francisco crews will return to noli valley today to repair a sinkhole that opened up thursday morning. it's 3 by 3 and 10 feet deep at church and 24th street. it damaged an 18-inch sewer line and has been temporarily patched up. a bus shuttle will carry riders through the area until repairs

are complete. >> 5 castro valley:35 is our time. abc7 news viewers have come through in a big way for a horse rescue group facing a financial crisis. in october we told you the equine rescue center was in danger of shutting down. now it's a different story, thanks to you. we have the details. >> this happy horse is named hattie. one neglected and afraid to come near anyone, now she's strutting herself and pose fourth holiday photos. deborah was originally planning to give hattie a temporary foster home, and then she fell in love. >> it's permanent now. a few months after that i adopted her. >> she's one of many success stories made possible by the equine rescue center south of hollister. >> we are kind of the rescue that will take the ones that nobody will take. >> it's a haven for abused and abandoned horses. they are rehabilitated and adopt out, or if that's not possible

they get a permanent home at the sanctuary. the entire organization is run by donations and staffed with volunteers. but this year they were in crisis because of hay pricing soaring because of the drought. they had to raise $350,000 or shut down. and many of you responded. >> we have had a huge out pouring from the abc7 news viewers. >> hundreds of donations, large and small, came into the center's gofundme page and in the mail. >> i have received so many wonderful letters of support. i have had phone calls, i have had people reach out to us just to let us know that what we are doing is important. >> the response still makes monica emotional. now the center has met its goal and will stay open. >> it's the best feeling in the world. >> much of the donated money will be used for an irrigation system. >> this property has four welvs on it. >> once they are ready, this he

will grow hay and cut down on the hay bills. and the 350-acre rescue center happens to be home to one of the most endangered species in california. >> they live off the endangered kangaroo rat, wig we have colonies of them. the goal is to make it a wildlife habitat for the endangered animals. >> she is working with the u.s. fish and wildlife service on the project and it may be eligible for federal funding. >> it's pretty awesome. >> of course, they need donation to go keep up with day-to-day expenses. but all in all it's a great holiday season thanks to the volunteers and the abc7 news viewers. ama daetz, abc7 news. monica said her emergency call for donations brought in more than $60,000. but the center always needs more to keep up with day-to-day expenses. we posted a link to our website at abc7news.com.

all week long. partly cloudy skies. 11:00 tonight notice along the coast we could see some showers. not likely to reach inland, but by sunday you will see some showers all around the bay and we will look for more of that on and off throughout the day. in fact rainfall amounts with this system, pretty decent. once again, nothing huge, but that's good because we have a wet week ahead. anywhere from about over a half-inch in san francisco and san carlos, .2 livermore and san jose. about a third inch in mountain view. but as we go through monday afternoon, the next system on our heels, and by late monday, 11:00, we've got more rain. it's widespread all across the bay. into tuesday, tuesday afternoon, possible break, but by wednesday more windy and wet conditions with this system adding another inch or two in the wettest locations of the north bay. so this is adding on top of what we will see tomorrow and into monday. so it looks pretty good. then beyond that, still could be

wet. so in san francisco, with a slight chance of a shower today, we break it up by tomorrow and monday. and look at the rest of the week. yeah, it's wet. highs today 49 in concord. it will be cool, cloudy, gray, 54 san mateo. a few peaks of sun in and around the afternoon. the accuweather seven-day forecast, periods of rain tomorrow morning. open monday we will be wet and tuesday, wednesday, thursday, first time we've seen a successive series of wet and windy systems that will bring at least a half-inch to inch of rain and mountain snow. the mountain snow levels look low, which is good. keep the jackets and umbrellas handy. you don't want to put them away anytime soon. >> no. >> lisa, thanks. turning to sports, tonight the warriors will register their 150th consecutive sellout when they play the nuggets. the injury-riddled dubs may still be quite steph curry who is listed as questionable. but there's a possibility head

coach steve kerr could return to the bench tonight. he's been recovering from off-season back surgery. tipoff is at 7:30. yesterday stanford star running back christian mccaffrey gave the nation a preview of what may come next season in the rose bowl. here's the highlights in he this morning's sports report. >> good morning. it's if not for the slip-up in the season opener against northwestern, stanford might be playing for the national title. yesterday it looked almost unstoppable against iowa in the rose bowl. coach david shaw had his players fired up for the third appearance in pasadena in four years. the cardinals scored on the very first play from scrimmage. kevin hogan to christian mccaffrey. mccaffrey was just getting started. the cardinals defense had 7 passes. he takes it the other way, 56 yards for a touchdown. stanford scored a rose bowl record 21 points in the first quarter. it's hard to believe iowa won
