a commercial fishing boat runs aground, pushes by strong winds and high waves. the crew left to fight for their lives. the boat is still trapped on the rocks on the marin county coast. what happened to the two men onboard? cornell bernard picks up the story. >> not the wait was supposed to end up. >> reporter: greg says it was supposed to be a none new year's fishing trip that ended in something scary when the fishing boat lost power and was headed for the shoreline rocks at china camp state park. >> a little unnerving. >> a little bit. >> the captain matt phillips

says the seas were rough saturday and winds were fierce. >> blowing 15 knots or 20, pretty rough. blew us right up there real fast. >> you think it would hold but it wasn't holding. chuck you on the rocks. but it wasn't happening. >> reporter: the captain radioed for help before running aground. both men made it to safety. park rangers say bay waters consider treacherous. >> you can think about it. it's easy to sink a boat in these waves. this is win we have most of the problems. it was an outgoing tide but the vessel was being blown into shore. >> the coast guard says the vessel likely ran out of gas. officials will monitor the situation. the fishing trip wasn't a total loss. >> i did catch one fish. it was cool. >> reporter: salvage crews will try to move the boat come high tide sunday morning. >> a water main breaks and hundreds of gallons of water

spew into a san jose neighborhood this morning. this is video taken by anthony, member of our community. the bolts on he the many broke. the water department capped the link at noon. water did not enter any of the homes in the area. >> san francisco repairs a sinkhole 48 hours after the problem was discovered. we were there where crews work all day to patch the sinkhole. the lack of proper equipment caused a brief delay originally. service on muni's j church metro line was impacted during the repairs but street car service should resume. >> you won't be able to light up the fireplace. air quality officials called for a winter "spare the air" advisory tonight.

the first of the season. >> looking at the air quality. we have good quality but still illegal to burn through midnight tonight. we have a lot of clouds upstairs. but the good news that's going to keep us not as cold as last night. by midnight, mainly cloudy skies, all locations will stay above freezing overnight tonight. the clouds tomorrow are going to give way to rain showers, and the storm will be a one on our storm impact scale on sunday. after the storm there are series of storms on the seven-day forecast that are much stronger and cause concern for flood the weather forecast is coming ultimatum. >> speaking of flooding, big weather problems in the the midwest, residents in missouri are finally beginning to see flood waters recede.

>> reporter: danger is swiftly moving downriver. >> it's mind boggling. >> reporter: as hispanic floods in missouri sweep away homes and businesses, the mississippi river is still surging. >> you expect floods but don't expect your house to float away. >> reporter: some parts of the area still under 16 feet of water in other areas the water is receding, giving residents their first look at what is left behind. some luckier than others. >> had some customers come bay to offer help, and that's -- gives you the hope that real humanity is still left. >> reporter: local churches are now serving as relief centers. >> we will come out and help with houses and relief effort. >> reporter: all that water is now moving south. the governor toured flooded areas, declaring a state of emergency, and deploying national guard troops. >> levees are holding well.

gulezian spoke with the couple and will have their story at 6:00. victims of a fire that obliterated their home in vallejo were overwhelmed today by the kindness from the community and local firefighters. the family were renting a unit built over a garage that burst into flames yesterday morning. they got out safely, but everything else was destroyed. including their christmas presents. vallejo firefighters, a union, and the community responded with money, checks, and bags full of toys. >> never in a million years did i think that the community would come together and people everywhere. i don't know from where, but everywhere. are helping us, helping complete strangers out. >> firefighters said it was just a matter of doing the right thing, helping a family in need get back on their feet. >> a vigil and rally got underwade in the east bay to pray for those facing deportation in the bay area.

53 in vallejo. with this system coming on sunday, it's a one on our storm impact scale. the rain moves in for the second half of sunday. a tenth inch to three-quarters of on inch, and heaviest on the coast. trying to get a bike ride or run in this is the best chance. by mid-day and afternoon, the rain starts to arrive, first along the coast, then everspreads the region. by 10:00 sunday evening tracking light showers before the system departs monday morning so total rainfall with this system, heaviest along the coast, perhaps over an inch of rain. as you move inland the numbers really fall out as the storm goes there last. probably less than a quarter inch in hayward, and livermore, but a stronger storm, tuesday and wednesday, a two only the storm impact scale. a half inch to inch of rain, wind gusts, 20 to 40 miles-per-hour. so jumping ahead to tuesday
