department are calling me. so i have stories lined up for coming weeks and this one, based on reports i've just obtained. the coroner finds a convicted child molester, paul eddie pierce died from a broken neck from falling in the shower but sources tell me the jail did not call out investigators or a homicide unit and by the time a rookie detective arrived, the scene, including the blood evidence had been cleaned up. that raises serious questions at the prison law office. >> there is evidence of lack of supervision, training, accountable. >> reporter: sources say they'll never know because of the poor investigation. two months before the incident, a mentally ill inmate, michael tyree was beaten to death at the

main jail, then, in september when guards wanted to move 33-year-old walter roches to another unit, he refused. the report says officers used pepper spray, and three rounds from the 303 riot guns shot through the food tray slot. >> it's cruel and inhumane and un-constitutional. >> reporter: sheriff smith refused to be interviewed but i caught up with her last month. >> have you now banned the use of the riot gun with the mentally ill inmates? >> we've banned that entirely. >> one autopsy found a large bruce, a result of shots from the riot gun with head trauma, a nose bleed and cuts and bruises from the cell extraction but the

autopsy concludes he died from sepsis and mental trauma. >> reporter: this coroner tells me the autopsy should have included injuries from the riot gun as parts of the cause of death and says the sheriff could have farmed out the autopsy to ensure objectivity in this controversial case. >> some counties in california do that routinely. if there is a death in custody they do not allow their personnel to do the autopsy. >> there is a video of the insy dent but the sheriff's office insists it's not of public record. sources tell knee it's -- me

it's disturbing. if you have a tip, call me. >> i know you don't rest until the truth comes out, thank you. we have details about a serious situation on bart. bart officials tweeted about a possible kidnapping at montgomery station. riders were concerned when they saw this. officials now say it was a domestic dispute. a father took his child from the mother and tried to get on the train. police say they could charge the father. service was briefly disrupted but running again, as normal. guilty on all counts is the jury's decision in the trial of raymond shrimp boy chow. the counts include murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering. an fbi probe led to the arrest nearly two months ago. he was indicted with others

including then state senator leland yee. at 6:00, a delay in the case of a woman and her boyfriend accused of killing two children and leaving bodies in a storage unit. the woman is the childrens' aunt. the hearing was continued for two weeks. they're being tried in monterey county because prosecutors believe the victims were killed in salinas the day after thanksgiving. the bodies of the 3-year-old and 6-year-old were later found in a storage locker in redding. dozens of protestors today called for the firing of the police chief in san francisco during mayor ed lee's inauguration at city hall. abc7 news anchor eric thomas was there and is live with what was at times chaotic. >> it was chaotic. another way to put it might be awkward. protestors here, angry over the shooting death of a black man in

the bay view district last month. today, trying to make sure the mess wrath was heard loud and clear. this was the scene during inauguration, some of the disruptive protestors taken away by sheriff's deputies. they used the mayor's inauguration to call for three things. >> fire chief suhr. prosecute officers that killed and executed mario woods on december 2 and we want an independent investigation. >> they're angry over this cell phone video showing police shooting mario woods to death. police say he had a knife. critics say there should have been a nonlethal way to take him down. protestors made enough noise that you could barely hear the mayor being sworn in to second

event center, calling it a quote an important civil priority. today, we ended the worst five day start to a year for the dow jones, ever. since monday, the dow lost a thousand points, or more than 6% of the total value. today, the dow closed at 16,346, the nasdaq down to 4643 and s & p dropping to 1922. now, not all local companies suffered on the stock market, apple stock gained about $0.50 but it's still under $100. yahoo stock went up, finishing at 30 and so did electronic arts. today, twitter dropped to a low. investors are not showing confidence about the company's ability to attract new users.

hillary clinton is back in the bay area, just left a fund-raiser in san francisco and on the way to palo alto for another one. hundreds of people lined up to get into the family celebration. the fund-raiser is $2700 per plate, clinton's last trip was in november. the most-wanted drug lord in the world is behind bars tonight. mexican authorities captured el chapo in a bloody shootout.

the question is will he be ex-indicted to the u.s.? >> reporter: that is the burning question. he has been captured and now what? will mexico keep el chapo behind bars or turn him over to the u.s.? take a look at the video, that is el chapo and his associates escorted on to a plane with heads covered. and this is video of el chapo forced into a vehicle after his arrest. and look at this, the best shot of the face that struck fear into so many, the head of a $3 billion cartel at the end of his journey. he was taken into custody in a bloody shootout in the his home state. five of his associates were killed and one mexican marine, wounded. this is the home he had been

hiding out. mexican marines seized armored vehicles, a rocket propelled grenade launcher and a huge cache of military weapons. >> it's a very big deal they're able to pull this off considering all of the resources he has at his disposal. >> mexican president held a news conference saying at rest proves mexico can overcome corruption, corruption was blamed for his two previous escapes, the latest in july, he busted out through a mile long tunnel. >> the justice department had a standing extradition for el chapo. but loretta lynch called it a victory for the citizens of mexico and the u.s. and the of law in our states.

el nino season, i would say there is a good chance there will be rain in the beginning of january, end of february. >> this is where a temporary mini marina was supposed to be built by now. storms prevented construction of the docks. the organizers say the safety is our first priority. more than 12,000 people were expected here. in san francisco, abc7 news. >> crews in joes sem ti have officials deemed it safe for clean up to begin. at this point it's not clear when it might reopen. the park remains accessible with

highway 21 and highway 120. >> more rain is coming our way. >> it's a great pattern. >> light to moderate rainfall. and probably will have two storms coming in before the end of the weekend. so i'll show you right now, you have probably noticed it's cloudy and there is moisture gathering near the coastline. no actual rain has been reported yet. here is a look at temperatures getting cooler in the north bay. temperatures dropped into mid to upper 40s and inland east bay as well, in antioch and livermore, mainly low 50s around the bay. here is a live view from our camera, looking westward over the bay, our forecast features, light storms arriving tonight. rain tapering off tomorrow afternoon. a second storm sunday night that will take us into a rainy pattern next week.

here is our storm impact there is a storm coming in tonight and tomorrow ranking one in our impact scale. it will be wide spread but light to moderate. here is our forecast starting at 7:00 this evening. during overnight hours, all areas get wet. at 6:00 in the morning it will be rainy. rainfall breaking into scattered showers and going into tomorrow evening and in the sierra, winter weather advisory tonight, we expect 4 to 7 inches of know.

there is accumulation expecting a few inches of snow and forecast animation, we'll see a wave of moisture moving in that may bring light rainfall. and then, during overnight hours, we'll see wind becoming more wide spread and steadier. by 5:00, beginning of the morning commute there will be wide spread rainfall with locally heavy down pours saturday evening, less than a third inch. taking that out to monday, we expect maybe up to an inch of rain and north bay locations

nuclear experts at stanford say they're studying a claim that detonated a hydrogen bomb. they say any test will have a destabilizing effect on the region. frantic calls for help, a philadelphia police officer was ambushed and investigators say his alleged attacker pledged support for isis. you're looking at images from surveillance cameras showing a man firing at officer hearten's patrol car. both men survived. detectives questioned the suspect. >> he's confessed to committing this cowardly act in the name of islam. according to him, he believes that the police defend laws that are contemporary --

if we're fortunate we get a long life that ends in old age. the unlucky are cut short. when i was younger, i remember older folks talk about how time moves faster as years go by. i never understood what that meant until i hit by 50s and it is gaining speed now. hard to believe it is 2016. when my kids were little i hoped i would live until they became young adults so i'm greedy and i hope to make it until their children become young adults as have my parents. now, time is something we're willing to waste as if there will be more. what really matters is to make the most of every possible moment because we can't get any of them back. let me know what you think. >> that is it for us tonight. >> thanks for joining us.
