victims joined oakland police today and renewed their call to solve a crime that took place three years ago. eduardo childress was shot dead near garfield elementary school. they believe the same gunman killed larry la vet and left his body near diamond canyon park. >> we know somebody who knows about it. i know that his friends knows. no doubt about it. why no one come forward, i don't know. >> not so much about a number or stat, but about a person. but about a family member, about a community. >> police say they have some leads but not enough to prosecute anyone for killing childress and le vet. the national football league recently added to a lawsuit by santa clara's youth soccer league appeared in san jose today over plans to use the soccer field for the super bowl. it appears a deal might be in the works to settle this dispute.

david louie is live at the soccer field next to levi stadium. david? >> reporter: this used to be a soccer field. you can see buildings built on top of the soccer field. the problem is, as you know, the soccer field is used by kids for various tournaments. but they can't use it during the super bowl. so an nfl attorney in court says they get together to work out a special deal. >> contractors for the nfl have wasted no time covering the grass and turning this youth soccer field into a media center and security headquarters for super bowl 50. still, the attorney for the youth league is back in court speaking an injunction to stop the work, even though santa clara agreed two years ago to let the nfl use the facility. the soccer group says 6,000 young players have no place else to play. the attorney wonders why the last-minute objection. >> nobody said boo about any of the arrangements or the likelihood or the facts that the nfl would need these soccer

fields. >> the soccer league's president says they were left in the dark at meeting after meeting. >> in those meetings, we've asked what can we expect when the super bowl comes? and we were told all the way up until the middle of the december we don't know. >> if the judge grants an injunction, it would send the nfl scrambling to move media and the security operation. however, both sides left court hopeful that an agreement could be reached. home of the earthquakes possibly at no cost to the soccer league. >> we're open to talking to the other side, to look into solutions that. that's what we want at the end of the day. >> some of of the availability is being worked out with the alternate sites. i do anticipate having further discussions with the host committee and others to try to nail down more specificity on that issue. >> the judge will issue his decision in the morning. in santa clara, david louie, abc 7 news. at levi stadium today in

santa clara, sky 7 hd was overhead as they got the field ready for super bowl 50. now less than a month away. more than a dozen truck loads of new grass arrived at the stadium today. workers started to lay it out and water it. doing a lot of work. janet oh is there live. the nfl admits they are concerned about the weather. >> yeah, kristen, they said the weather determines houfs they work. even with the concerns of the weather not cooperating, they are prepared for the worst. super bowl 50 preparations continued early this morning as crews rolled out the new sod on meticulously graded sand. nfl field director, ed manage an expect the field to be completed tomorrow. the el nino driven storms remain april threat. >> removing this field, we did most that of in the rain and tried to do laser grade. we did most of that in the rain.

it has affected us but we're on schedule. >> he says on top of the weather, they have backup sod and tarps to cover the field in case it gets too wet. >> we'll deal with mother nature as she comes. as to the new sod, many question whether it will hold up. the hybrid bermuda is for west coast turf, the same that the 49ers use. >> it's been done, i don't know how many times. they've redone it two or three times this season. it never seems to be right. >> to this game a few months ago. loose sod was very much a parent will have baltimore's kicker missed a crucial field goal. no one believes it will get as bad as it did in the 1939 playoffs between the redskins add the niners. when players were trudging through sod that stuck to cleats and helmets at candlestick park. george tomah was there. he's one of the experts making sure everything is seamless.

vandals that left a is this shambles. the baseball league sent abc 7 news these pictures. you can see red paint splattered throughout the baseball field snack bar. it was also burglarized. now the damage was discovered on saturday. the league is asking for donations to help pay for repairs. we have a link to the group's online fundraiser at abc 7 news.com. san francisco police are searching for an armed robber who assaulted a woman and her 2-year-old. it happened friday while the woman pushed her child in a stroller along cortland avenue. the robber jumped out of a car and pushed the stroller over and then hit the woman with a gun. grabbed her purse and snatched a tablet from the child. the man jumped back in the car and took off along cortland avenue. the woman and the child were treated for injuries. formal charges are now filed tonight against a teacher's aide accused of hitting a child with special needs. cell phone video surfaced last week showing 26-year-old hitting a 9-year-old boy at the toe bin world school in antioch.

she's now been charged with misdemeanor child abuse. police say koor admitted to losing her temper. a second teacher aide is charged with failing to report the incident. you're looking at some of the cars vandalized outside the contra costa county jail. the suspect did it because she wanted to go back to jail. the crime took place moments after a 35-year-old woman from antioch left jail after being released on charges from another vandalism case. a deputy hurt his knee while arresting a suspect. >> a meeting is just about to get under way to address concerns about a series of recent suspicious fires in guerneville. they will listen to community members outraged over five fires that broke out over the holidays. one of them destroyed the russian river health center. three homes were also damaged. the meeting gets under way at 5:30 at guerneville elementary school. a berkeley wine business accused of operating a wine pyramid scheme has filed for bankruptcy.

he could lead the assembly through 2024. one of his big priorities is expanding early childhood education. he knows it's important. rendon had a high school gpa of .83 once. if you can believe that. >> wow. >> a new proposal that has the raiders staying in oakland appears to be gaining yardage among nfl owners. a report says a consensus is building within the league for the st. louis rams and san diego chargers to share a stadium in englewood. dallas cowboys owner jerry jones made the proposal on saturday. now, this deal would nullify a proposed raiders/chargers stadium in carson. the raiders wouldn't be left empty handed. several reports say the league could provide additional money for a stadium in oakland. at least 24 of 32 owners must agree on a plan for any team to get the green light to moch. laura anthony traveling to houston for the owners meeting.

the meeting will be tuesday and wednesday here on abc 7 news. uber is making headlines in consumer news tonight. michael finney is here with more on that. michael, what's going on? >> all about the -- uber kept the price of a ride in 100 cities across the united states and canada. the bay area is getting in on the deal. prices here are being discounted from 10% to 40% depending on location and the service you request. the discount is an effort to increase business. january is a slow time of year for many businesses, including car shares. if you live in santa cruz counties, watch out. people are being targeted in a computer scam. a caller claims that the victim's computer is infected with malware and asks for remote access in order to get into the computer and fix it. the scammer then claims the problem has been solved and demands payment. the scammers request payment by credit card or prepaid debit cards. individual consumers have been

store branded children's cold medicine because of an overdose risk. they include dollar general, cvs, rite aid and kroger. it was sold nationally under a number of brand numbers includes a dose cup with incorrect markings. it recalls children's grape and cherry liquid cough medicine sold in four-ounce bottles. no overdoses have been reported. for a list of the medicine, go to abc 7 news.com. a full court press to find a cure for cancer was announced today in san francisco. spearheaded by dr. patrick soon shown. a world-renowned oncologist and the coalition is now in business. it includes several researchers, drug giants and biofek firms with the goal here of testing more cancer drugs and developing new treatments faster. the program is called cancer moon shot 2020 and will test more than 60 drugs on 20,000 patients. let's wish that project luck and
