whatever reason? will the cameras stop them? >> b.a.r.t. has received millions in funding from homeland security for improvements. coming up at 6 cloek, we're looking to where that money has gone. live in berkley, abc 7 news. >> 25 new surveillance cameras on san francisco streets have some people worried about privacy issues tonight. some of them are going on around markt street where superbowl city will be held. san francisco says the cameras are not for surveillance. they're an expansion of a program to monitor live traffic conditions around the city that has nothing to do with the superbowl. the agency stresses that they do not have the ability to record video because that would be against a city law. >> the superbowl game is just that one day. nearly three weeks of impact in san francisco. she joins us along the

embarkdero with more. >> well, at the meeting today, they emphasized what was called stp, security, transit and patience. you're going to need a lot of patience. >> the biggest event will fill levi's stadium and bring annest mated 1 million superbowl fans into san francisco. >> san francisco traffic downtown is already a challenge. this is going to be a challenge times four. >> these residents charge the official mantra, don't drive if you don't have to fr three weeks. that's because of street closures. add to that muni lines that will be rerouted. we learned today some changes may even take place midstream. squl we're planning, in a way that we have never planned before. but we do have good experience.

abc 7 news was at the square park where the latest one went up in front of the painted ladies. this is the third in a series of signs the nfl has installed. each has a similar design, but each with a different scene. this one features the coin used in the pre-game coin toss to determine who gets the ball first. >> another band of rain is moving across the bay area right now. it caught some people off guard as it began falling in san francisco a little while ago. abc 7 news meteorologist sandy patel is tracking the system very closely tonight. >> live doppler 7 hd has been an active afternoon. let me show you right now. we're seeing some wet weather in the north bay. it is very light and steady. i'm going to take you in a little bit closer around highway 101.

in the east bay, it has lightened up. you can see what really happened. there were some brief downpours as those thunderstorms developed there in the east bay. right now, we are seeing some very light returns heading down towards salinas around 183. when you take a look at the wider picture here, we're going to continue the moisture coming in. one is light, five is severe, the currensystem is the one. >> tonight, less than half an inch of rain is expected with the light wind. we have three more storms in the accuweather

worried about flooding from the downtown area all the way to the bay. fema wants property owners to buy flood insurance. >> christin, coastal areas are being up dated to check for flood hazards. here, the bay area, some 1100 properties and 900 homeowners are being affected. the areas change include downtown redwood city and the chp's redwood city office. a nearby residential area is also affected.

fema has been updating flood zones. >> that's going to come up on the disclosure statement. it opens up a whole nother can of worms with getting insurance. the proposed changes won't be finalized until next year. it could mean property owners are required to take out flood insurance. online interactive maps allow you to drill down to a specific address to learn if you're in the proposed flood change zone. you really have to look at the map carefully. for example, all the houses on this side of the street are included in the change. however, go across the street, and the homes on this side are not. >> if you buy your coverage before the map shape takes

tonight, a bill to close a loophole they believe has allowed killers to get their hands on these weapons. vick lee is in the news room to get the story. >> most assault rifles are banned here in california. assembly man david chu believes the others that are not banned should be. and those are the ones with something called a bullet button. >> one of these two similar-looking semi-automatic rifles is banaled in california. it's considered an assault rifle. it's the one at the bottom.

nearly 90% of california remains under severe drought. state officials are hoping for some sort of recovery from the effects of a strong el nino. >> newts are not making a comeback. two years ago, we told you the drought was interrupting the mating patterns of the amphib n amphibians. scientists say there's only a few now. in a normal year, there's dozens, if not hundreds in a pond. but they're not too concerned yet. >> in some years, they don't come in until late february or even march. so we still have hope. especially if it keeps raining. if not, newts are very resilient. they'll usually live 20 or more years. >> they are rare, but they are extremely toxic. >> i always believe leave newt handling to witches. they know what they're doing.

>> we have several years of this. so it's going to take a while before we make a major dent in our drought. it is going to see the rain. and here's a live look, live doppler 7 hd. you'll notice where it is wet right now. steady light rain in the north bay. very light returns. santa rosa, south santa rosa. so we're taking you into street level radar here to show you where it is raining. from santa cruz, it is turning to snow. chain control on all roads. winter storm warning until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. koumd see up to 18 inches for the highest peaks. here's a look at those snow totals.

temperatures right now in the 50s. we do have cloud cover around and here's a look at the rainfall so far. look at that, santa rosa, a third of an inch. we have seen rain drops on our lens which is a welcome site here. the rain will taper overnight. stronger storm follows sunday and monday. look at the time line for tomorrow morning. you'll still see a few spotty showers but very lieblgt and very spotty. 7:00 a.m. may be one or two more showers. and then the sun comes out. it's dry most of your friday. expecteding a quarter to a half of an inch. it will be breezy one.

tomorrow night, looking at cloud cover by 7:00. light to moderate rain. 11:00 p.m., most of the bay area is looking at slick roadways. another batch of some heavier rain. and then we have that next system coming through. the next two systems between friday night through saturday night, we're looking at basically a rainfall total looking like this. sunday morning, the next system is already approaching. that system, the next one, sunday and monday, both weather storms, heavier rain. we are looking at some strong winds. monday morning's commute could be a bit of a rough goal.

obviously, the time line will change again. tomorrow morning, just a few showers. temperatures in the 40s as we head towards tomorrow afternoon. you do get a break. lottings of cloud cover. 60 in oakland. san francisco, 61. san jose, 58. accuweather seven someday forecast. unfortunately, if you have out door plans, the weekend does not look good. two for monday, the third storm. >> so you may not be running outside. so let's look at exercise equipment.
