abc7 news begins with breaking news. a horrific scene on west 101 in san jose. a greyhound bus headed for san francisco overturned. sky 7 was overhead where the bus still remains on its side. two passengers are dead. many more are injured. the traffic impact will last for hours, likely into the afternoon commute. thanks for joining us. i am kristen sze. we have coverage on the deadly bus crash this morning. matt keller is in san jose at the crash scene and the hospital for updates on patients. janet o is in san francisco where the bus was headed. matt? >> the medical examiner took the

bodies of two victims and c.h.p. is on its own saying it will be a long day as they try to figure out what led to the horrific crash. >> at 6:40 in south san jose a greyhound bus with 20 people coming from los angeles and holding to san francisco never made it to the final destination. it crashed on northbound 101 at the northbound 85 car pool ramp. >> a witness said the rear of the bus ended up on the right side. >> two confirmed fatality, five transported with immediate and life threatening injuries to local hospitals. 13 of them have minor injuries being treated and transported. 45 firefighters and ten ambulances were opposite scene. several lanes of the major road were blocked during the commute. when help juried were taken care of c.h.p. started the

investigation. they will talk to passenger and look at the bus to see if there were mechanical issues. >> they will look at the driver the past 24 hours, a 24 hour profile on the driver and see everything that has happened, he has done in the past 24 hours. >> a tow truck driver is here but will have to wait to get to the because. the investigation needs to be completed before the bus can be taken away. i just talked with a c.h.p. sergeant and she told me she expected the investigation to last at least another six hours until 5 o'clock tonight at the minimum. >> thanks, matt, the injured were rushed to different hospitals including in san jose at regional medical center. we are there, chris, we are hearing different reports on the severity of the injuries. what is the latest? >> that is right. the c.h.p. said that there are a total of 18 injuries in the crash and most of them were minor. however, we can tell you that at least nine people were taken to

local hospitals, and one of them was a child but we have been told that child is expected to be okay. i want to show you a breakdown of where the people were taken to in the san jose area. we are currently at colleague natural medical center in hose where three people were taken for the injuries and all three are currently in stable condition. we just got the update from a hospital spokesperson at valley medical, three people were taken there, with minor injuries. another three people were take were to good samaritan hospital. however, all three were treated for the injuries. they have been released. back here at regional medical center, we have been told the three would were take were here who are currently in stable condition do not have friends or family in the area and at this point it is unknown where, exactly, they were coming from. the hospital is telling us they are trying to provide as much support as they can to the people who are here at regional medical center. we will be sure to follow up and bring you more details as they become available throughout the

day. we are live from san jose. >> thank you chris. this bus originated in los angeles. it stopped in gilroy this morning and was on way to san jose when it crashed. san francisco and oakland would have been the defendant nations -- the destinations after that. janet is at the san francisco great behind where more. >> the passengers were supposed to arrive at san francisco because station at 7:25. it hook off last night at 11:30 when it crashed in san jose at 6:30 this morning. it would have headed to the final destination to oakland today. a greyhound spokesperson said another bus picked up passengers at the scene and dropped them off in san francisco. we are told that the driver reported the crash after it happened as they are required to do so. they are also required to get nine hours of rest before a trip and every bus as if this case

was confirmed to have been inspected before take off. passengers who were not o bus that crashed her the news and told us they are anxious about their travel plans today. >> i know that though are pretty secure. we have been traveling by greyhound so...how many years? >> about three years. maybe more. >> trying to get home and be safe and i don't want anything to happen. you know? >> greyhound said that this particular bus that crashed has seatbelts on board and passengers are not mandated to wear them but they are certainly encouraged to wear the seat bents. additional information on the driver is not being given to us at this time during the course of the investigation. friends and family who want to check on their loved ones who were on the bus this is a hot light set up, 1-800-972

for abc7 news. >> this is what the backup looked like on that stretch of we after the crash traffic crawled up the right hand plain because the l lanes were blocked by the wreckage and the clean up crews. it expected to last william into the afternoon as matt mentioned. we go to sue for the latest open traffic. >> it is not as bad as it was this morning. it was backed up for an hour and ten minutes to the scene of the accident. northbound 101 now is backed up but only 20 minutes' delay with a few cars getting by on the right. expect the h.o.v. slide over to highway 85 is shut down until this is totally cleared. we are throw it back to you, kristen. >> it could be 5:00 before it is cleared. authorities have not said if weather is a factor but we know it was a stormy morning.

meteorologist mike nicco has more with conditions in san jose at the time of crash. >> thank you. good morning, everyone, solid shield of wet weather across the bay area. we will zoom in to the intersection and you can see light rain has been falling since 3:00 at a third an imso there could have been pond on the roads. we had southeast wind at 12-14 miles per hour so it is a tail wind, not a cross wind. however, the pond on the roads, high dough planing, could be. the santa cruz mountains are under a flood advisory until 12:45. you can see the storm wiping down. as i look through the planner, i will show you sfo where we had a full rainbow. here you go at noon, pockets rain and at 1:00, scatter showers possibly by 2:00 and 3:00 with the worst being over. >> today, the crash is five years after 509 greyhound bus

>> daly city, dublin, los gatos and all the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> your twitter feed could be less active after experiencing a worldwide outage that backed many of the 300 million users. the issue started shortly after midnight our time and lasted almost ten hours before it was restored. twitter said it was a technical glitch in a recent code change that left many unable to log in online or on the mobile devices. twitter did not know or specify how many users were actually impacted but posted a message for all saying and i quote, "thank you for your patience." >> the weather now, more weather, a look from lake tahoe camera, south lake tahoe at heavenly, you can see some ice sickles, as the snow came down the storm has given them more fresh powder this morning so the skiers and snowboarders love it. this picture was posted by amy

with a last green. no yellow. no red. light-to-moderate rainfall here and, again, until 12:45 the possibility, with not a lot of clouds but scattered pockets of light rain. now, flight arrival delays in sfo are down to 69 minutes from an hour and 53 minutes. we still have issues in lake tahoe but it is the area here where the bulk is falling through midnight at 6-12" before 6,000' and 12-18" at the highest emvacations. now, with our closeup visible satellite this takes a picture from 22,000 miles up you can see a line of clearing developing so we go from umbrellas to sunglasses as we head throughout the afternoon. right now you can see drizzle still falling but the showers will taper in afternoon. another storm on friday night into saturday morning and the continued forecast is trending dry. now, hour-by-hour forecast, the

temperatures start with the highs in the upper 50s to low 60s in most neighborhoods and significantly cleveland colder tonight at ten or again degrees cooler with clouds and fog developing in the not bay and inland east bay seem and in the low-to-upper 40s hour by our, here we are at noon, you can see the shield opening and the yellows as we head all the way through the afternoon, and by 4:00 we start the evening commute and that is when we are seeing more of sunshine break out and you will need the sunglasses. as we head to 5:00 or 6:00 or 7:00, it looks quiet and there will be residual moisture but it will not be rain as we head overnight the clouds are opening here and there and that is when the fog will form and those cooler conditions will develop and the seven-day forecast shows i downgraded the storm from a "2" to "1" and the worst of it is over, and, nows as we head to wednesday and thursday, enjoy the dry weather, but friday storm is going to be a lot like
