avenue. the road is blocked in both directions near hoffman. could take four hours to clear. the chp recommends using sr 29 instead. in sonoma county, caltrans shut down state routes 12 and 121 because of flooding. you can see why. this is the area of shellville. caltrans estimates they'll be able to reopen at about 11:00 tonight. the storm knocked out power to a neighborhood in berkeley, and problems there continue tonight. abc7 news reporter wayne freedman is live along panoramic way with the story. wayne? >> reporter: good evening, dan. behind me, panoramic way, it's been closed all night. now, you can see traffic going in and out. pg and e letting residents go in, still, 129 homes without power but that is better than what we saw earlier today. in berkeley this morning a stringing mess, lots of yellow

another live look at sky 7 hd where that greyhound bus crashed, killing two passengers. and we talked with the son of one of the two women killed in that terrible crash. melanie woodrow asked how he heard what happened and we want to share his comments here. >> he asked me about that bag with my roommate, passed away bag in it so when the moment that the coroners asked me about that bag, i knew. it was my mother. you don't expect anything bad will happen to us.

urging the mayor to renegotiate. >> we can still ask. >> reporter: supervisor jane kim and two colleagues want to change the rules of the game to require the nfl super bowl host committee to reimburse san francisco for all expenses connected with the celebration. >> there are hidden costs, that deal created in the mayor's office. >> reporter: the supervisor, john avalos was one of the main critics of the america's cup, which ended up leaving taxpayers on the hook for $11 million. right now, the city puts the super bowl costs at $5 million. mostly from muni and police overtime. >> we're facing a $ten millage budget deficit. >> reporter: the mayor's spokesperson says the arrangement is fiscally responsible. >> we know san francisco, residents and businesses are going to benefit. we know we're going to generate

more sales, hotel and business tax. >> reporter: but what about the street artists? they'll have to leave. >> they've been kicked out of their spots without compensation and representation. >> reporter: he urges the nfl to give each artist $200 a day. the emergency measure will be introduced next week. a political hail mary. in san francisco, carolyn tyler, abc7 news. so with the super bowl just weeks away, the fbi and homeland security have issued a memo outlining potential security issues. vic lee has that story. >> working with every agency in others to make sure everybody is safe. >> reporter: mayor ed lee says the city pulled out the stops to make super bowl 50 safe. to help local law enforcement, the fbi and homeland security issued a hehemo -- memo,

in the first trading day since friday, stocks ended with mixed results. the dow gained 28 points, bringing it back above 16,000. the nasdaq dropped 11 points. >> netflix stock gained today after announcing 4th quarter results with profits higher than

expected. >> that is not the only good news that led to the business watch. netflix also revealed the subscriber list topped $75 million. >> apple is a slightly more diverse company, numbers show the company staffed in 65% male. the number of asian employees rose from 15% to 18%. beginning today, you can file tax return electrically with the irs. more taxpayers are opting for this method. the number of returns filed electrically rose 2.4% last year compared to the year before. california's minimum wage rose by $one at the start of the year. statewide, it's $10 an hour. >> here are arguments for and against raising it higher next, and... you'll get a look at the impact of today's el nino

crews used a crane to clear out parts of a tree. sky 7 hd was overhead, two cars parked nearly. they appeared to be okay. a tree came crashing down in north beach, officials say it snagged muni wires and interrupted services to the 41 union lines. >> those are just two examples of the damage by today's storm. >> and now, what happened on the peninsula. >> accidents on highway 101 were causing major delays. firefighters and chp responded to a crash just north of 380. among the passengers a little boy. the car crashed into the bushes, he was in a car seat. firefighters made sure he was not hurt. >> people need to realize the

roadways are still wet. still wet, they need to slow down and drive carefully. >> if accidents were a problem, fallen trees here managed to shut down a number of roads and knocked out power. >> this is a monterey pine tree. they're nearing the end of the natural life cycle. and with the stress of the drought for several years, it's just a victim and toppled over. >> reporter: the homeowner was inside, but not hurt. the fallen tree did little damage and neighbors were worried about a second tree falling, this one, larger. >> i should probably get a further, deeper evaluation. we don't see a danger at the moment. >> reporter: a section of ralston avenue was closed to traffic. the gusty winds forced several trees down. once the storm passed, public works made sure the sewer

drainage system was clear. in belmont, abc7 news. the coast guard just announced it's suspending it's search for the 12 marines missing since helicopters crashed in hawaii. the search has been going on for five days. the marines were on two helicopters, conducting night time training missions on thursday. a witness reported seeing a fireball, debris from the choppers and four live rafts have been found, but no remains. union police are investigating a deadly confrontation between two officers. a woman called 911 saying a man was banging on her window with a garden tool. responding officers say the man charged them, so they shot. the shooting was recording but the individual yes has not been released. >> the mayor of carmel by the

sea accused pg and e of not improving it's pipeline map since two high profile explosions. the deadly san bruno past and another in 2014. a vacant home was destroyed in that incident. carmel's police chief says pg and e's poor record keeping puts lives at risk. >> carmel happened and it's concerning. are they taking this seriously? you have to say no. >> pg and e responded tonight saying it continued to have reports for record information and safety measures. california voters will get to decide whether to raise the state's minimum wage a dollar

per year until it hits $15 an hour. supporters presented thousands of signed petitions trying to make sure that that option gets on the ballot. >> reporter: the campaign to raise the minimum wage was put to a vote. 600,000 signatures. lut napt governor is leading the charge. >> here we are in california, one of the most vibrant economies on planet earth. with more people living below the poverty line. >> here in san francisco, the minimum wage is set to increase until hitting $15. they say with the steps towards leveling an increasing unlevel playing field. >> who can live on $21,000 a

year? nobody can. >> stores like borderland books that were making a small profit. >> by 2018 we'll be losing $25,000 a year. >> big companies? >> they say we're going to do more with less. so they're not going to hire workers. >> reporter: the head of the san francisco republican party says higher labor costs could encourage more businesses to replace worker was machines. >> we're going to have, in my opinion, more unemployment. >> reporter: supporters say raising wages will put spending money into pockets. >> so when folks can afford school supplies, repairs on cars, medical communities, the community is lifted up by people spending in the neighborhood. >> if certified, it would raise minimum wage a dollar a year with increases for cost of living after that. and there is sad news to pass along.

an east bay man thought to be the oldest man in the country has died. he was born in 1898, he passed away at age 117. this is video from his 115th birthday bash in 2013. he may have been the world's oldest man. he was born in louisiana in the late 19th century, a time when african americans in the south were not typically issued birth certificates. the fda approved a hearing aid that can be installed with out surgery. >> how the founder was able to turn laser light into sound waves. and next... >> how 7 on your side's michael finney helped this man get
