>> it's saturday, january 23rd. thanks for joining us, i'm chris nguyen. let's start with a first look at the forecast. here's meteorologist lisa argen tracking live doppler hd. >> hi, chris. good morning. we do have some showers out there. the wide perspective shows this twirl in the atmosphere. an area of low pressure heading to the north. we have an impulse that is headed through the bay area, keeping the showers lingering throughout the morning. we may see some scattered showers into the north bay. south of mount st. helena, east of highway 101 near napa and out toward point reyes, the coast. and very isolated further south

from the san mateo coast to perhaps up in the hills east of san jose. these showers will take us through the morning hours. the early afternoon hours are mild right now. 51 santa rosa layera and saratoga. we will talk about the second half of your weekend which is trending dryer. that's in a few moments away. chris. >> thank you. sit of pacifica has declared a state of emergency because of damage some recent storms. two were told it's no longer safe to live in their homes. we have the story. >> the destruction by the king tides is forcing the city of pacifica to declare a state of emergency. they are battering the homes. >> it hit the house against the glass door. >> pacifica is asking for state and federal assistance after the

seawall along beach boulevard collapsed yesterday. >> it's like little mini earthquakes throughout the day and the night. >> the bluffs at the pacific skies mobile home park fell into the ocean. >> every time the waves of hitting it with the wing tide, it's make it fall to the ground. >> previously the apartments on the erowsing cliffs were condemned. now the city said the neighboring apartment could be next. allen has been taking pictures of the king tides swaling pacifica. he shuttered the window of his oceanside homes. >> the water gets blown into the house and it has a lot of stones in it. it's the stones hitting the glass that cause it had to break. >> the storms are expected to continue battering pacifica. the city will get a full assessment at their next meeting on monday. abc news. the santa cruz mountains are being seeing storm damage. street and utility crews are work to go clear rockslides, as

today closers extend from the mid-atlantic to the to new york city region. >> developing news in san ramon. a 16-year-old boy was killed after apparently being hit by a car on the freeway. it happened around 10:30 last night. investigator say the teen jumped from the car he was riding in on northbound interstate 680. they are not sure why he jumped out of the vehicle. officials say debris at the scene suggests the boy was struck by another car, a white hyundai sedan. they are investigating it as a hit-and-run because the other driver did not stop. >> a 79-year-old map is in jail accused of hitting a bicyclist in a hit-and-run crash in san jose. the man was arrested thursday. they believe he hit the victim with his pickup truck on santa clara street last friday and then took off. the two

a cph claim to an end at the upper deck of the bay bridge during thursday morning's commute. take a look at the driver. he leaves his car and runs from the officer. the motor the cyclist runs into action and put the car in park. the driver hit several cars during the chase. he was arrested for not paying the bridge toll and was a eventually arrested. the body of a missing surfer has been recovered. large wave hit the 60-year-old wednesday as he surfed at road yes beach. others spotted him face down in the water. they tried cpr and pulling him to shore but he was washed out by another large wave. in oakland, the try to keep the raiders here one more season gets underway. that's when there will be a meeting mind closed doors for a lease extension for the raiders. the executive director said the two sides have agreed to begin discussions.

day for san francisco. >> corruption is a crime against all of us. when government is for sale, we all suffer. >> former human rights commissioner and a staffer are accused of taking $2 million from an undercover agent. political analyst and former member of the board of education, keith jackson, is accused of taking bribes. he's also being charged with grand theft. investigators say he falsely promise today place a woman's child in a better school in exchange for money. >> this type of criminal activity erodes public confidence, undermines the strength of our democracy and if left uncheck, threatens our government. he was also named in a federal rack tier case. according to court documents he accuses city leaders, including ed lee, for using bribe money in their campaigns in 2012. in a statement the mayor condemns the alleged criminal activity. he said there is no place in san francisco for this corruption, especially in city

it's a 1 on the storm impact scale. and on a scale of 1 to 5, one being the lightest and 5 being severe. then you know how to plan your day. today we are looking at the system with a 1 and anywhere from a couple hundredths to .2-inch of rain. the surf is high and a coastal flood advisory. you notice the activity is widely scattered. live doppler hhd, you see the showers from santa rosa. there's the sweep. and further south along the post, half moon bay. cloverdale, highway 101 and around yountville some activity. the snow level continues to be quite low. we are looking at that in the sierra, as well. from san francisco, half moon bay, there will be a few showers and watsonville. way further south and gilroy and mt. hamilton picking up a few light showers n the mountains we

have a winter storm warning fourth the west slope and a weather advisory. a winter whether advisory through 4:00. speaking of snow, what about this storm in the northeast? we are to talk about this. over 17 inches has fallen in washington, d.c. with about 10 more inches to go. you see along the coast it's rain. they are looking at some flooding around new jersey and snow. and it's going to continue throughout the day. so really doesn't look like it abase until tomorrow. an additional 10 to 12 inches are possible here. really crazy. in fact look over two feet, a record in central park. back home scattered showers, a slight chance of showers. a pattern starts late tomorrow into the week ahead. a coastal flood advisory from 8:00 to 1:00 this afternoon, the high tide is at 10:30. and we could see possible flooding in those areas around sausalito, nil valley and

certainly the surf is something to contend with today. through 5:00, really big waves. the westerly swell anywhere from 10 to 16 feet. the big rip currents and sneaker waves. outside we go with conditions cloudy. numbers in the 50s. 55 mountain view, 54 in half moon bay. and from this vantage point you can see the golden gate bridge. nobody is there, but looking at some fog closer to the coast. 52 santa rosa. 51 by the delta with 54 toward concord and livermore. so throughout the next couple of hours you will notice the activity still with us. not just in the north bay but from the peninsula, east bay, fremont. and 280. look what happens by 10:00. still shower activity. some of the light rain, the mist and drizzle into the afternoon hours. and it's really going to take throughout the rest of the day until we dry out. so if you want to time that bike ride or jog, you are either in it this afternoon with the showers sort of hold off until

>> thanks for joining us. hi, lisa. >> we have a 1 on the storm impact scale that's bringing scattered showers of the most of the activity heading to the north but still wintry in the sierra nevada. here in the bay area we are talking about scattered showers and tracking them. the sweep on top of mount st. helena. you see they are moving west to east, mainly in the north bay. so anywhere from, say, clear lake back westward through cloverdale, highway 101 in the coast. and right now san rafael is clear but you will be getting showers. mist and drizzle further south. the golden gate bridge, 580, 680

virginia, snowplows are working overtime. there have been thousands of crashes on the roadways. several people have died. >> i slid several times this morning in my dump truck. >> emergency crews have been working around the clock to save even our four-legged friends. in virginia, the large st. bernard named mile low fell through the ice in this freezing lake. firefighters jumped into action, rescued the dog and got him warmed up. >> mile low is doing okay this morning. it's really piling up on the sidewalks. chris, i will spare you this. i can tell you we were checking power outages up and down the east coast here. hundreds of thousands of people have been left in the dark. people have been told to stay off the streets in d.c. because this blizzard is only going to get worse. reporting live in washington. abc7 news. >> chris. >> thank you so you machine.

5:33 is our time. tradition carries on despite the snowstorm in d.c. the tomb of the up known at arlington national cemetery, it's a duty to stand guard 24 hours a day to remember unknown sollers from the wars. they will shovel the storm to continue the watch through the snowstorm even though arlington national cemetery will remain closed through the weekend. along the new jersey shores, crews built the giant sand dunes for the coastal areas hit four years ago during super storm sandy. hundreds of first responders are on standby just in case the conditions get worse. at home caltran is stepping up efforts to make the bay bridge leak proof. they are working with a private bridge repair company to reinforce the new eastern span. crews are doing things like key

placing some areas. the trial for the man accused of killing sierra lamar nearly four years ago is set to proceed in april. yesterday a santa clara county superior judge denied a motion to dismiss the grand jury indictment license angela torres in a death penalty case. the morgan hill teenager disappeared while walking to a bus stop. they found lamar's hair and dna inside his car. there was dna also detected on his clothing. the child was never found. trial to schedule to begin on april 25th. thousands are people are expected to attend the walk for life west coast rally in san francisco. the niece of dr. martin luther king, jr. will lead the opening prayer at the civic center plaza. it's the 12th annual event. they will make their way on market street toward the ferry building and end up at the embarcadero. the rally starts at 12:30 this

afternoon. juniorist and marin county native jason rezalan is back in the u.s. rezalan's wife was also on a flight to welcome him. he was freed in a prisoner swap with iran. rezalan had been recovering at a u.s. military hospital in germany. he's expected to stay in d.c. for couple of days. >> a school shooting in canada has left the country in shock. at least five people were killed when someone opened fire inside a school in north he were saskatchewan. two more people were critically injured. >> this is every parent's worst nightmare. when i spoke with community leaders, they obviously expressed sympathy and the community is reeling. and all of us across the country, our hearts are going

weather to deal with. this is the storm impact scale we use. we rate every storm that comes in on a scale of 1 to 5. 1 being the lightest, and 5 severe. we've had two 3's and plenty of number 2's but 1 is where we are at today. we are looking at showers continuing throughout the rest of the day. an additional .05 to .2. and you see the scattered showers. this is what it's going to be, the result of a weak system pushing through the bay area today. cloverdale, you are wet along the coast, the higher elevations. and san rafael looking at showers. the showers moving from west to east. look at san francisco also across into the east bay, highway 24. 580 and 680 some wet weather for you. as we head further south and east you see the higher elevations around mt. hamilton,

lightly scattered showers of the there will be more throughout the day today. winter form warning fork the west slope and continuing until 4:00 with the sierra nevada with pretty good snow and gusty winds. as we take you to the east coast, they have picked up over a foot and a half in washington, d.c. look at all the states impacted here. we are look at rain moving into new jersey, and not much in new england but we are talking about richmond and new york city, where they are perhaps going to break a record of over two feet of snow. this all winds down later on today. but the snow has been falling anywhere from 1 to 2 inches, maybe three inches an hour. and you will notice over 17 inches not only in d.c., but also down through richmond, virginia. back home just scattered showers today. a slight chance of showers throughout the day tomorrow. but our atmosphere will be trending dryer. we will wake up to the morning low cloudiness and fogg throughout the next several days. high pressure is going to build

in, bringing us a dryer pattern later on in the day and the work week ahead. but we are still tracking rain by the end of the upcoming work week. so a coastal flood advisory from 8:00 to 1:00 this afternoon. this is in conjunction with high tide at about 10:30. so we are looking at possible flooding all along the low-lying areas here inside the bay, as well. keep that in mind. the likelihood. and also the beach hazard statement with a high surf advisory. this is going down all the way to san diego. the waves have really been intense from northern california along the central coast and the current wave heights anywhere from 10 to 16 feet around bodega bay. dangerous out there for sure. as we look outside, it looks mellow with temperatures in the 50s. the cool spot morgan hill 50 degrees. 54 half moon bay with the fog at the coast. 56 in oakland. and from emeryville, a great start. it will be mist city and drizzly with perhaps showers. 52 liver nor.
