broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> oh my goodness. there is some fancy stuff in here. >> super bowl 50 hotel price sticker shock. the new prices are going to be bad, but you will never guess what this hotel is charging. i'm eric thomas. the super bowl is set and broncos and panther fans are getting ready for the big game. sergio is live on the embarcadero with more on how fans might want to closely examine their options before booking a place to stay. sergio? >> eric, we went ahead and checked out a few different travel apps like expeaked yaw and travelocity and air b and b and craig's list. we knew we would find price spikes in san francisco and the bay area for super bowl weekend. but some of the prices we found were breathtaking.

according to expeaked -- expedia , it can be booked for $1,118 at the westin. even more shocking, the market street in valencia can be booked for more. >> she says that's too expensive. she is staying at the travel lodge and booked her room for $69 a night and kind enough to let us check it out. she works across the street and was surprised at the markup. >> wow, a thousand percent. come spend money in our city. >> when you compare prices it is even more expensive than the park 55.

and there is an eight-bedroom home and the person listing the property hasn't replied to our e-mail, but we followed the google map on the ad and came here. one neighbor was skeptical. >> the only thing i would say is it is very difficult to find an eight-bedroom and six-bathhouse anywhere in san francisco. >> now she is renting out her pacific heights home. >> it takes a lot of work to get your house ready for visitors. but if i can put my house ready and on the market for 10 grand it is worth it. >> she was planing to get out of san francisco and head to lake tahoe on super bowl beak -- weekend anyway. >> the bronco and panther fans say the average resale price of a ticket to the big game is just over $5300. we also checked stub hub and the cheapest ticket is $3800

and that's in the upper end zone and it only goes up from there. sports anchor mike shumann will have highlights from the nfc and afc championship games coming up. >> a live look now from our abc7 roof cam from the embarcadero. tomorrow morning commuters can expect the traffic nightmare that can last up to three weeks. all of the road closures surrounding the super bowl city at justin herman plaza are in place. it is across market and the financial district. traffic was at a stand still around the area. >> it is an inconvenience, but it will be cool. >> it will be crazy. hopefully employers will support and allow their employees to work remotely and it will be tough for a little while. >> starting on tuesday, howard street will be closed around the center for the nfl experience. the detours run through february 12th. super bowl city will be open

and family are scouring the area looking for a 28-year-old man who disappeared on friday. they believe he was murdered, but they have yet to find his body. abc7 news reporter is live in san jose where the victim and his alleged killer works. >> they found evidence of an empty building and that's where a murder took place. it is an unusual case and the body no where to be found. that's where kyle was last seen working at gp sports in san jose. his accused killer was his co-worker, steven from loss altos. san jose police arrested him for murder. >> we wish the suspect would just tell us where he is. he is not. anyone who could come and help us. >> dozens of people including strangers con vernalled on lexing -- converged on the

more than five decades. she fought important city issues from important housing and education. just two years ago she helped build a solar home. jackson was considered a pilar on the bay view district and has a street named after her. she died from complications of cancer. she was 82 years old. the santa cruz wharf has been closed because of a burst watermain. it provides water to warped businesses. here is video from the santa cruz camera before sunset. you can see the beach is empty. extreme surf conditions is preventing an immediate repair. city officials are working to restore water service until a permanent fix can be made later this week. the wharf will remain closed until further notice. still to come on abc7 news at 11:00, new video of how precarious a situation is for homeowners in pacifica as a cliff continues to fall into the ocean. also, the big dig out. we are live in new york city

and businesses on sharon way and palmetto avenue. some of the problems emerged 25 years ago. pacifica declares a state of emergency requesting state and federal aid to deal with el nino -related problems. the nature con coif -- conserve ven see is asking for any footage showing erosion and flooding. it shows the hillside crumbling away. scientists will use the i'm mens to document and map out damage. they hope it will predict what it holds for climate change. be prepared. residents of one san jose neighborhood have tips to deal with the affects of el nino enhanced storms. they hosted a disaster preparedness affair. they feature dangers from earthquakes and it sits 13 feet below sea level. a big storm could submerge it again.

>> you can sign up when the rain starts and you have to sign up 30 days before. it is some of our heaviest rains on an annual basis. we want to make sure they are pre -- prepared and insured. >> now that the el nino-driven blizzard is on the east coast they are attempting to get back to normal digging out from the historic storm. it is how cities are preparing to prepare for the upcoming workweek. what are the conditions like there now? >> i can tell you it is the calm after the storm. snow piles continue up here in the northeast cities like here in new york and across the mid-atlantic. of course the main concern now for the cities and towns affected by the snowfall is trying to make sure transportation and streets are open in time for the monday morning rush.

>> tonight millions of americans are digging out from all of that snow. a bird's eye view from this drone flying high above baltimore providing a snap shot of the monstrosity of snow crippling the major northeast cities. western pennsylvania is feeling the affects of the winter wallop as they scramble to reopen the turnpike near pittsburgh where hundred of vehicles were left strappedded. left stranded. the major issue is flooding. chunks of ice and feet of water line the streets. as many homes were submerged under water. tragedy also striking after a mom and young son are killed by carbon monoxide. >> and i try and i try and my nephew tried. the paramedics tried. >> in maryland a celebration after a couple was forced to make a special delivery of this healthy seven-pound baby named hannah after they were

buried inside. and in new york a ghost town at one of the city's busiest transportation hubs. penn station is almost empty. cancellations seen all over the board. >> i do not remember ever looking them tee. in fact i swrus took a -- i just took a picture because i want to remember how empty it is. >> 14,000 flights were canceled as a result of this epic blizzard of 2016. here in new york city the schools will be open on monday morning, but there are plenty of schools across the northeast that will be closed. in new york, abc7 news. we'll send it back to you. >> many say extreme conditions bring out the best in people. a group of church goers from south dakota held an impromptu mass this weekend for all of those stranded. take a look at this photograph taken this morning on the upper west side in new york city. it was posted on instagram

with the caption "sun rising on the upper west side." let the digging begin. >> drew is here with our weather. >> and compared to the east coast we will have a nice, quiet week ahead. the storm door will temporarily shut the next couple days. live doppler 7hd and we are dealing with partly to mostly cloudy skies. you notice just to the north of ukiah we have a front that is over achieving. it is keeping light shower activity together and some is trying to make its way into the north bay. live doppler 7hd says it is not out of the question that the northern portions of sonoma and napa county wake up to an isolated sprinkle, but that's about it. that's all we'll see in terms of sprinkles the next 24 hours. a live look from the abc camera shows a partly cloudy sky right now over the city of san francisco and the forecast will call for that isolated sprinkle on monday morning and that's confined to the north bay. it is the week ahead for the

bay area. more sunshine on the way. mild temperatures and a 180 from what we had last week. our next storm is not going to arrive and we get a break from the wet weather. we are out at 50 in fairfield and 48 in san jose. novato at 48. 5:00 in the morning we will have morning fog and you can see a light isolated sprinkle. by 9:00 that chance diminishes. we have fog in a lot of places. by monday afternoon we will see a good deal of sunshine and comfortable temperatures in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. take a look at the storm chances for the week ahead. you want to get the car washed? do it is next four days. monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday in most areas. then on friday here comes our next storm. then it looks like the north bay will have the chance of wet weather. and then saturday and sunday is when everyone in the region will have chances to see the sprinkles fall.

a similar story in the sierra. 2003 have a quiet weather pattern. partly cloudy skies. tuesday and wednesday is a mixture of sunshine and clouds. thursday, easy travel. if you are thinking of making it a long weekend next weekend , thursday, no difficulty getting to the sierra. back at home overnight there is a mixture of stars and clouds. a chance of a sprinkle first thing monday morning. monday afternoon we will see a fair amount of sunshine. 61 in oakland and 63 the high in san jose and 62 san huh co raw and 61 -- santa rosa. there is morning fog and otherwise tuesday sun and clouds and wednesday it is sunny and it is nice and we are on the mild side and on thursday it is beautiful and friday there is a chance of a shower in the north bay and then saturday and sunday, eric, that's when everyone can have a chance of wet weather. right now it looks like that storm will be a one on the storm impact scale. >> drew, thank you very much. still to come on abc7 news

this is one terrifying fall. it is the female skier of the year taking a sudden spill and tumbling down a shear cliff face in alaska. teton research posted this saying it is important to be careful no matter what kind of skier you are. the skier came away unscathed. clearly it could have been much, much worse. look at this cute little guy. he is a scared sloth clinging for dear life to a light in ecuador. police found him trying to cross the highway. they took him to the vet and determined he is just fine. the sloth is back in his normal habitat. the forest without streets to cross. to see these photos again check out our abc7 news

>> afc championship game, a game for the ages especially for the bronco fans. great defense and it came down to the final drive in our afc super bowl participants. 17th meeting between manning and brady. manning leads the afc title game 2-1. and he set the tone. 21-yard frozen rope and he had two first half picks all season and two today. vaughn miller had six points right here. he helps out his defense. 12 yards down the sideline. he was 176 yard. two td's and 17-9 broncos. rob gronkowski and cramping all day. a minute and 34 left in the game. brady finds gronk. 17 secondses left. everyone knows where it is going. he finds gronk for six. 20-18 and he needs the two-point conversion to send it to over time.

>> good evening. i'm eric thomas. in tonight's headlines the bronco and panther fans are coming to the bay area for super bowl 50 and may be shocked at the hotel room prices. this $69 a night hotel is advertising the rooms for more than $1100 a night on super bowl weekend. one san francisco home is listed for $ict is,000 for the week -- for $60,000 for the weekend. investigators in san jose are searching for a man they believe was murdered by a co-worker. he disappeared on friday at

his job. they arrested him on murder charges based on evidence found in a truck similar to this one. the snowstorm is blamed for 15 deaths. most major airlines will resume service to and from the east coast tomorrow. washington, d.c. and federal government workers will be out of the office tomorrow. the offices closed as the city continues to dig out. happening now in southern california a manhunt for these three men who broke out of a maximum security jail in orange county. abc news reporter lauren lister shows us their well-planned escape. >> tonight investigators revealing the first images from that brazen jail break where authorities say three inmates escaped a mabz mum security jail. authorities releasing this grainy rooftop surveillance video from southern california. the flashes of light believed to be the inmates. the us marshals are joining the search.

>> two of them were in custody for murder and one for mayhem and kid p thatting. k idnapping. >> the pictures are showing the inmates escaped their dorm-style cell by cutting holes in this grate and climbing through the plumbing and then breaking through the other secured areas. that's how they made it through the unsecured part of the roof. >> it is believed they used a make ship rope to aid in their escape. they were last seen at 5:00 a.m. they weren't discovered missing for 16 hours setting off a manhunt late friday night. the focus is now on places where the fugitives have family and friends. the family is in disbelief. >> i feel he was manipulated or tricked into doing this. >> investigators say the plan was sophisticated and well thought out. the fbi and the us marshals are now offering a $50,000 reward to find the missing men. abc news, santa ana, california.

>> new video from isis shows the nine extremists who carried off the terrorist terror attacks. we will not show the video because it is extremely graphic. they are shown beheading bound prisoners. all nine militants died in the paris attacks or the aftermath. the video was filmed before the men snuck back into europe. it left 130 people dead and hundred injured. presidential hopefuls reacted to another prominent name. michael bloomburg making a run for the white house. bloomburg is laying the groundwork for a possible run as an independent if democrat hillary clinton falters. bloomburg served as mayor for 12 years. he switched his party affiliation after first being elected as a republican. bloomburg has ties to clinton and donald trump. >> he's a good friend of mine and i will do the best i can to make sure i get the

nomination and we'll go from there. >> i would love it because i love the competition. i would love bloomburg to come in. >> the iowa caucuses are eight days away. scary moments tonight for two bay area men after an engine problem over the caribbean forced their flight to make an emergency landing. the trouble started moments after the delta airlines flight 307 took off from saint thomas in the u.s. virgin islands bound for atlanta. instead it landed in puerto rico. abc news spoke with both san francisco men via skype. >> five minutes after takeoff there was a loud bang on the left side of the engine. i couldn't see what happened exactly. >> you can see a bright flash coming from the wing. >> one of them tweeted this picture after the boeing 757 landed safely in san juan. they resumed their journey aboard another plane.

there is more accu cations cations -- accusations of match fixing. a few large bets were placed on the obscure match. the site told the "new york times" no such betting behavior has happened around any other match. the doubles match lasted 20 minutes. this comes a week after a report of a repeated match fixing by 16 players. >> top executives are leaving and they confirm they have left the san francisco company. there are reports of board member being announced this week. one will be a high profile media personality. an oscar producer says chris rock is rewriting his monologue after the lack of diversity controversy. he had the opening done a week ago, but they threw it it out. rock will not shy away from

gatos. >> you are about to meet a young man who has not let a disability limit him. he lost his sight due to a beating by former friends. here is an abc7 star. >> bello and his canine come pan yawn oslo are a familiar sight in the hallways of holy names university and in the small office he occupies as writer and residence. writing is the vehicle he uses to crusade on the behalf of the disabled. >> i would like to really be able to be a voice for all of the disabled people who don't have the ability to voice their thoughts and opinions. >> bello was born in guatemala and grew up in a latino neighborhood of san jose. he wasn't always blind. that happened in 2007 when a group of childhood friends he was estranged from assaulted him. >> i got kicked in the head so many times there was nerve damage from it. >> for nearly two years after

the attack he withdrew to a very dark place. in his memoir he said it took the love of his family and writing to pull him out. he not only became an activist for people with disabilities, but a strong voice in the bay area's lgbt community. in fact, he was one of the grand marshals for the 2015 gay pride parade. the first blind person to have that honor. he is happy to use the exposure to try to inspire gay and lesbian people. >> when you set your mind to be the best you can be you will inspire people guy bello also practices the brazilian martial art that is difficult enough foresighted people. and he is a spokesperson for guide dogs for the blind. the organization that trained and provided his companion, oslo. >> when i am walking around he is reading what i would need. >> and what he wants.
