severe. we have another storm come thing weekend. it will be one, a south bay event with less than a quarter inch of rain. dan? >> sandy, thanks a lot. look at this, an unbelievably close call in oakland today. the driver of this suv said he had to swerve off the road as a massive tree fell in front of him on shepherd canyon road. you can see the tree is blocking the entire road. crews say there's still no eta on when it will be cleared. amazingly and thankfully no one in the suv was hurt. a race against nature is under way in santa cruz. that's where engineers blame pounding waves with speeding up erosion on west cliff drive. yous began work to shore up a sinkhole. they're going to use large boulders to fill that hole. a family watched today,

helpless, as crews demolished their dream home in san francisco. inspectors ordered the house torn down because the hillside beneath it is sliding down the west slope of mt. davidson because of the rain. alyssa harrington is live. a very sad sight to see. >> reporter: it's hard to believe this used to be a $2 million house. it's been entirely knocked down. crews had to use cables to get work done, because part of a sidewalk is crumbling, as well. this could be the tip of the iceberg. five other residents have to get their homes checked out, too. >> it's a bit frightening to wake up one day and see that your house next door is condemned and sliding down the hill. >> reporter: steve ader first noticed the crack on his neighbor's house monday. just days later -- demolition crews tear it down. building inspectors say it's

unsafe and now some neighboring homes could be, too. >> of course, we're very worried because there's some movement on our property. >> reporter: up the road, the gas meter was removed from this house. contractors say the patio is next. the director of the department of building inspection points out other properties they're worried about. delivered. residents must hire engineers to check for hazards. >> i don't know what's causing it, but it's a major problem. >> reporter: right now, nobody knows the root of the problem. neighbors want answers. they suspect big construction projects could have damaged a water line. the water department says there are no leaks. but a sistern has not been

checked and holds 70,000 gallons. >> if anything went wrong with that, it could cause it to move. >> reporter: the home owner who just bought the place wants to rebuild. something i am told is possible, but only after a thorough investigation and when the hill is stabilize. that cistern is designed to withstand a major earthquake, but the water department is sending someone out to check the levels. alyssa harrington, "abc7 news." >> thank you very much. you can see a mudslide is causing more trouble in oakland. building inspectors have yellow tagged a second home along oak hill road. residentks only get their belongings but cannot stay. breaking news. the fbi is searching right now for guns stolen from federal agents. it happened in a residential

neighborhood today. three hand guns were taken from an fbi vehicle that was locked and with an alarm activated. also stolen was an fbi badge and credentials. kate steinle was killed by a gun stolen from a federal ranger's car in downtown san francisco. here's a live look over super bowl city. nice shot we have there. check this out. construction on the water front venue is moving briskly tonight. super bowl city will open to fans and spectators saturday, tomorrow. today, we got a sneak peek for what's in store for fans and the nfl fan experience. for a $35 fee fans can see championship rings for every super bowl that's been held. 49 previous super bowls. interactive exhibits will entertain folks of all ages and wilson will show fans how footballs are made. >> you can land an event like

super bowl 50, you're talking about america's sport. you're talking about 50 years being able to talk about the history of what this sport has meant to the entire country. >> at super bowl city, stages will host some of the big name concerts held throughout the week and there will be exhibits from sponsors. this venue is free. the south bay cities may not have nfl sanctioned events other than the game itself, but that's not stopping them from putting out the welcome mat. opening ceremonies are under way now. >> reporter: yes, they are. you can see they have comfortable adirondack chairs, food trucks, sculptures and live jazz. but don't leave out santa clara, they have lots of attractions, as well. >> it's a secret that a lot of

moment is moving along pretty well. the taillights going north, it's moving fairly well. coming up, "abc7 news" reporter wayne freedman looks at the impact of super bowl closures on your friday commute. shifting gears now. new developments today in the latest political scandal to rock san francisco. two former city officials and a long-time city hall insider appeared in court to face corruption charges. vic lee is live at the hall of skrus 'tis. -- justice. >> reporter: this case stems from charges filed last week by san francisco district attorney george gascone. most of the evidence comes from the long and covert fbi investigation into possible corruption at san francisco's city hall. the three defendants appeared in court, one after another. former human rights commissioner. zula jones, a commission

staffer, escorted by lawyer john keker. and former school board president keith jackson, who has pleaded guilty to separate federal racketeering charges. in that case, jackson was arrested in 2014, along with others. in this new state case, the three are charged with soliciting bribes and money laundering in return for political favors. they were caught in a wide net spread by fbi agents as they look for corruption among san francisco public officials. and secretly taped conversations, they discussed accepting $20,000 in illegal campaign contributions from mayor ed lee, from an undercover fbi agent posing as a businessman. attorney keker characterizes the undercover agent this way. >> lied and lied and lied. acted like a big shot, tried to

get other people to act like a big shot. >> reporter: jackson is now represented by a public defender. he says his lawyers have a challenging case since the charges against his client so back four long years. >> that's very difficult, because you have to find witnesses, you have to reconstruct what happened and it puts the defense at a disadvantage. >> reporter: the judge agreed to requests to postpone the arraignments until late february. vic lee, "abc7 news." cat lovers heard shocking details emerge today in an animal cruelty case in san jose. at least one case was sexually assaulted. officers say they found a dead cat in the suspect's car. the crimes took place during the summer and early fall of last year. >> he left the door open and she got out, never to be seen. was found thrown away in a dumper the like a piece of trash.

>> prosecutors accused robert farmer of stealing and killing several cats. he returned to jail today without entering a plea. his attorney did not speak to reporters. this is frightening, a 15-year-old boy had teeth blasted out of his mouth when his e-cigarette exploded. the explosion sent burning shards flying out of his mouth with cuts to his lips and tongue. firefighters don't know what substance he was really smoking. grace cathedral was packed today as folks said goodbye to an iconic fashion designer. among those attending the funeral were former mayor willie brown and lieutenant governor gavin newsom. he was remembered as a giving person who donated to several

"abc7 news" was at pier 7 to see the fireworks being loaded. all of it sits on two barges near the bay bridge. the fireworks show is set for 7:45 p.m. tomorrow night. we hope the weather cooperates. >> absolutely. let's show this. >> this will cooperate. this is something else that will light up, the bay bridge lights. some of you have noticed them fleckering across the western span. they were tested leading up to tomorrow's relighting ceremony. it's been almost a year since the original lights fell victim to the corrosive ocean air.

president obama will host the team. he called the warriors in june after they won the world championship. so now they get the invite and wonder if president obama will go one on one with steph curry. some local college students are battling to make the hyper loop a reality. space x's two-day hyper loop pod competition kicked off this morning at texas a&m university. 120 college teams are taking part, including three different teams from uc berkeley and a team from stanford. the winner gets $150,000 in prize money. later this year, space x will invite that team to test its design on a mile-long track constructed in southern california. proud of my uc berkeley team. love it when the meteorologist dresses to match the weather out

bay, south bay, 8:00 we'll still see the rain. the rain will continue, just scattered showers. 3:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, then mostly cloudy saturday for super bowl city, no need to worry, it is going to be drying out just in time. 11:00 a.m., 50s with peaks of sun. low 50s in the evening. so good time for a jacket or sweater. on our storm impact scale, it's a light storm, less than a quarter inch of rain. but notice the wind kicks up. it's not until after the storm is passed, which is why we're going for a one for now. south bay is getting wet, a pink there, mt. hamilton could see a mix of rain and snow. this system is coming from the south at 7:00, 8:00 a.m., so your sunday morning plans will include some parts of the bay
