>> good morning, i'm carolyn tyler. thanks for joining us on this sunday, january 31st. let's start with a quick look at the weather with meteorologist lisa argen. >> hey, carolyn, good morning to you. we have an interesting weather system on the way. you can see it is pushing into the southern half of the state, right here. and we aren't all going to see the rain but we will be impacted by this, these are the cold air cumulus clouds that are going to send some gusty winds our way. we have a wind advisory. you notice the green on the screen. this is not all rain. i think the rain is south of san mateo and 12830. go south and you see no in higher elevations.

this system will be pushing south. morning showers for some of you, and the wind advisory gets going this afternoon at 4:00 and lasts until 4:00 in the morning on monday. winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour, perhaps higher. airport delays, but sunshine throughout the day as well. >> in developing news we are expect to go hear at any moment two dangerous escapees from southern california are back in an orange county jail. the duo taken into custody near golden state park during a statewide manhunt. melanie radioed row said a sharp-eyed woman aided in the arrest. 8 days after three inmates described as extremely dangerous used a makeshift rope to repel down a jail, all three are now back in custody. >> i told you we were going to capture these individuals. >> san francisco police captured

hossein nayeri and jonathan tieu saturday morning after a citizen recognized the white van they stole following their escaped. the take-down at stanyan and waller street near gold state bark. >> stop, lay down, hit the ground. get on the ground. he did. larry watched it. >> they captured him and got the other one in the truck. >> they found tieu hiding inside the van. >> when we conduct add search of the van we found 380 rounds inside, an ammunition round. >> the trio were spotted earlier in the week. a man said they stayed here and checking out one day morning. one day later one surrendered to police. it's unclear why nayeri

fanfare. we had many of our cameras pointed at last night's beautiful fireworks show. here is now a live look from the visa everywhere cam over super bowl city. it's quiet right now, but there will be huge crowds later on. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana took in the sights and sounds. >> the first night of super bowl city festivities started off with a bang. that show in the sky was the opening act for a show on stage by bay area chris isaac. the first headliner of the week-long party leading up to super bowl 50 next weekend. ♪ >> there were some fans who were disappointed at a lack of access to the main stage of the show. for safety reasons the fire marshal shut down entries to a large area right in front of the stage, leaving it pretty sparsely populated. most people had to watch on big

screens nearby. down along the embarcadero some of the brightest political stars gathered for a show of their own. three, two, one! [cheers and applause] >> they relit the light project on the bay bridge. the project was donated to the state of california. >> on behalf of a grateful state, we are honored to be here. thank you all very much. >> the strings of light will now be a permanent part of the bay bridge. for super bowl fans, this is the first opportunity to take in this massive spectacle. >> this is what i had planned, to check it out, hang out and get excited. >> all the fans said they were excited to see super bowl city but would are more excited if they had tickets to the super bowl. >> the super bowl teams are coming into town today. peyton manning and the denver

broncos are scheduled to get here first, landing approximately 2:30 at the san jose international. and then the carolina panthers roll in. the panthers are the choice to win super bowl 50. vegas has them as a 6-point favorite and the margin could grow larger as game day gets closer. and more closers to tell you about. this is a live look from the city of santa clara webcam. it shows tasmin drive at great america outside levi's stadium. it will close down until tuesday, february 9th. lightrail service will continue until the evening commute on friday. bart has ambassadors letting riders know the spear street exit from the embarcadero station is closed. that's the exit that puts you right at market and spear. the spear street exit will be open during the morning commute on weekdays. the closer runs through next

sunday. muni also has extra ambassadors on hand directing riders. yesterday muni put up some new signs, you see there, to help visitors find their way to the super bowl events in san francisco. riders going to the nfl experience should get off at the powell street station. those going to super bowl city, at the embarcadero. if you want goat up-close and personal to the nfl trophy, the week long event kicked off at the moscone center. you see san francisco 49 running back roger craig carrying in the super bowl's top prize. craig says he hopes niners and raiders fan appreciate the week-long celebration. >> this is fun. it's a fun time. and it's great for all the people in the bay area. hope they embrace it well. >> the nfl experience has a lot more that's hands on. you can try your leg in a

game-winning field goal attempt. try out the quarterback challenge. tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for kids. today's events at super bowl city include performances by the marcus shelby trio and oakland interfaith gospel. that's free, by the way. in the south bay the fan energy zones run through super bowl sunday. that features interaction motion capture games. and a super community concert and fireworks show is set for today at mission college in santa clara. it includes a concert by heart, and a food alley. that event starts at 3:00 this afternoon. as crowds descended on super bowl city yesterday, san francisco police were busy trying to keep a group of protesters from entering. abc7 news reporter janet o has the story.

>> reporter: about 200 protesters swept the streets, determined to take their message to super bowl city. >> we are protesting because we are representing black and brown lives because our lives matter. >> protesters say they won't rest the until changes are made, starting with the firing of san francisco's top cop. this all started when a young black man was killed in a heated cop fronttation with officers last month. >> nobody goes through. >> police quickly attempt spelled into a line stopping protesters in their track the after what seemed like a long standstill, they were casually escort today super bowl city. they took pictures, enjoyed the festivities, but still held on to their signs. at one point the group made their way on the stage but quickly got off. it was by all accounts a peaceful event that didn't seem to bother nearby super bowl fans. >> we aren't here to tear things up or confront the super bowl or the people here but we are hear

>> in denver a large motorcycle show to schedule ford today was cancelled after one person was killed in a shooting. 10,000 people were inside the complex when members of two motorcycle clubs got into a fight. police say there were shootings and stabbings. they believe there was more than one gunmen. seven people went to the hospital and that's where one died. police have not made any arrests, but are talking to a person of interest the this morning santa clara police are warning this teenager is armed and dangerous and a suspected killer. 18-year-old jonah castro is believed to have to shot and killed a man in his car friday afternoon. castro is described at 5'3", 115 pounds with brown ice and black hair. if you see him, you are urged to

call 911. this morning campbell employs are searching for a man and woman accused of stealing two cars, including a police cruiser. the man on the left and christian hernandez ran the stolen s.u.v. into a patrol car of the officers were trying toa rest them for a series of burglary and car thefts. marie owe got away after stealing a police car and dragging a police officer behind it for several feet. that officer is going to be okay. police recovered the cruiser about five miles away in san jose. the fbi has warned law enforcement to keep an eye out for someone trying to sneak into super bowl 50 using a stolen agent's id. it was taken from a car early friday morning in venire shaw. they also took three handguns. there's a $5,000 reward for information lead to be an arrest. fans coming to the bay area for the super bowl are finding

some super prices when they look for a price to stay. abc7 news anchor reggie looks at what people are willing to pay to see their team play. >> try to book a hotel room in the bay area for the super bowl, and you might be shocked at the price. that is if you can even find a place to stay. >> i would venture to say that the week leading up to super bowl the hotels in san francisco will be running 95 to 100% full >> thomas is the general manager of the fairmont hotel on knob hill. he sidelines across the bay area are expensive. many hotels are charging as much as 6 times their normal rate. >> we are starting off at $1,500 for the regular rooms. suites go and there's a four day minimum. >> the price reflects the demand. >> there is not the norm and nobody i have spoken to say we going to go out of the market and price gouge. >> many visitors are looking at

rooms at air bnb. more than 6,000 listings are available across the area with the super bowl weekend. with the number of searches up 125% over average. >> we've got places that rent for $150 a night the on home away that you can stay in and you can book today. we've got place that is rent for $10,000 a night for that weekend. >> home away is the world's largest marketplace for renting homes. >> you think about the combination of the 50th super bowl, in the bay area, at a brand new stadium. beyoncé and cold play with the music. i don't think the stars would align for a more epic event than that. >> that's translating into epic demand for home rentals. >> this is our formal living room. >> especially in the south bay. >> i don't have to rent it out, but it's well worth it for someone if they are going to really do it right and do the super bowl right. this is the place to stay. >> she's hoping to rent her four bedroom home near levi's stadium for $20,000 a night with a

four-night minute you mum. she's already getting calls. and if she does rent the house, she knows what she'll do with the money. >> our daughter is getting married in may. to a wonderful young man, and we would love to help rent the house to help pay for the wedding. >> she said she'll also donate some to charity and spend some on a super bowl week get away in hawaii. abc7 news. it's all about supply and demand, right? >> yeah. and we are getting a little bit of rain this morning in the south bay. so that's interesting. it's going to stay that way. and it's really going to sink to the south the rest of the day. it will stay south of meet of us. but as we take a look at live doppler 7hd you see the darker green and the yellow lighting up into the san joaquin valley. the energy from this system is off the coast. it's an area of low pressure that will bring gusty winds and push the rain to the south. the speckling of the crowds, this is what is going to push

across the bay later on today, and that has allowed for the wind advisory to be posted by the national weather service. this right here, the light green, not likely bringing any rain. but as we go further south you can see a little darker from about 280, wood side, palo alto, and certainly getting rain toward cupertino. most likely around mountain view and san jose. we shift a little further south and east and you can see some of the higher elevation snow around mt. hamilton. so this will be with us throughout the next couple of hours and probably dissipate by about 7:00, 8:00. in the mountains it's a winter weather advisory until 4:00 on monday with the snow continuing to pileup here. so we're looking at up to, say, about 8 inches or so at lake level and a foot above 7,000 feet. in particular about 7 inches here, kirkwood. 4 in. tahoe city and incline about 3 inches. quiet north of the golden gate. 49 mountain view. 45 morgan hill, 50 in san

francisco. and a look downtown where we are looking at dry conditions. 44 in santa rosa, 46 novato, 49 concord, livermore good morning, and the bay lights here. so with that area of low pressure we could even see a few isolated thunderstorms in the higher elevations of the east bay. turning breezy this afternoon and the chance of a thunderstorm certainly more likely monterey, san benito county. here's the wind adviseories for the areas along the coast. they could be gusting up to 50 miles per hour. 2:00, check it out. 39 miles per hour half moon bay, 29 for oakland. but by later on in the evening, 6:00, look at the 30* miles per hour winds for napa and nearly 60 miles for oakland and it continues into the evening hours. monday morning still quite breezy. the rest of the rain notice the

how loose the straps were. >> the snowsuit added the extra room. in the event of a crash there's so much morris space for his head to ride up and his head to ride up and have a head injury. >> you can excuse the same test for bigger kid to see how much room their puffy coat puts between them and the harness. >> always make sure your child is properly harnessed all the tile. you should not be able to pinch any fabric and the strap should be at armpit level. >> for a baby she recommends securing her first into her seat and then putting a blanket on top of the harness. and bigger kids teach them a cool trick for wearing their harness over for riding in the car. >> it's like a blanket. >> caretakers should go periodically for a car seat checkup event. they are offered by some local police departments for the chp.

peninsula provides free repairs for low income homeowners. richardson's rife passed away. he struggled to maintain his home on his own. >> a great bunch of people that come here and do volunteer work. and i'm pleased with it. i wish the whole world was filled up with people like that. >> his house should be ready for him to move back in next friday, just in time to host a super bowl party. legendary dodgers broadcast er vince scully announced he plans to call his final game on television here in san francisco. the dodgers close the regular season against the giants october 2nd. the 88-year-old is in his 67th season with the team. he does not plan to travel outside of california to call games this year. a lack of dungeonnous crab did not stop them from throwing a festival and celebrating the crab in half moon bay.

it was the seafood festival yesterday. organizers changed the name from the half moon bay crab festival in november after state officials suspended crab fishing because of toxic algae blooms. >> it hasn't been a good season. i think for the rest of the community this is a really good event. it shows we care about the ocean and etching that's going on with it right now. >> so instead of crab, there was wine. local beer, food demonstrations on sustainable seafood, local artists and a lot for kids to do. >> yep, chinese new year festivities have started in san francisco. a mini procession marched do to down grant avenue to celebrate the coming here of the monkey. these kids are from westportal elementary school. they marched along with stilt walkers, drummers and more. they got to see lion dancing.

in. >> welcome back. we are starting this half-hour with a look at our weather with meet lease arc. >> good morning. this looks much more impressive than it is. we are getting light rain over mountain view and san jose as the system continues to push to the south. an area of low pressure will push over the area bringing gusty winds later this afternoon. we have a wind advisory by 4:00. where it's raining is the south bay from mountain view to san jose.

deserve the voters' trust. you can see it right here on abc7. and a public show of support. president obama will visit a mosque in baltimore this week. the president plans to hold talks on wednesday with muslim leaders at the islamic society of baltimore. according to the white house, president obama will reiterate the importance of staying true to the nation's core values. he said including speaking out against bigotry and protecting religious freedom. a reminder you have until midnight tonight to enroll in covered california. officials have extended the healthcare enrollment deadline because of a last-minute rush. you need to go through an agent or counselor at the covered california service center. then you have until february 6th to enroll. >> it turns out diversity is alive and well in hollywood. last night screen actor guild

that's the way the ball bounces. i'm mike shumann. see you again tonight at 5:00. have a great day. >> all right. so everyone wants to know about, you know, the weather now that people are coming into town for a super bowl 50. >> right. hopefully they were prepared. february in san francisco, you know, come on. but we will bring some nice weather. in fact, it's going to get better and better in terms of sunny conditions and milder days as we head towards next weekend. right now live doppler 7hd showing a storm system that's affecting the southern half of the state. also along the central coast and the fringe, really the tail end is pushing through the south bay throughout the morning hours. the area of lop heading over the bay area, bringing gusty, northwesterly winds through the afternoon and through the overnight hours. others we zoom in looking at light rain in the south bay from san jose to hamilton. this will continue around

campbell. as the sun comes up at 7:00, 8:00, it should all push to the south. but alaska it i have weather from monterey, further into say salinas, and looking at san louis -- it will be a rainy afternoon. a surf advisory. a winter weather advisory through tomorrow. we are looking at plenty of snow. even at lake level. the conditions are cold enough now, it's snowing. 8 inches there, over a foot at about 7,000 feet. anywhere from 6-inch to 7 inches from donner to 3, 4 inches blue canyon. guy net the north bay. the wind will pick up late in the day. 49 mountain view. 48 half moon bay. 50 oakland, san francisco. and question are looking at a quiet start here in san francisco. so more sunshine for you today. 44 santa rosa. 46 in novato. you have a little bit of a clear sky. and with the cloud cover, a

little warmer in parts of the south bay. but you've got a little bit of rain. could see some rain toward livermore this morning. but probably sleep through it. by the time you get up and get going, it should be pretty sunny out there. so turning breezy this afternoon. a chance of a thunderstorm in the higher elevations. here's where the wind advisory is highlighted. 4:00 this afternoon to 4:00 monday morning you see all along the coast and around the bay. winds could gust as high as 50 miles per hour. so as an area of low pressure gets in touch and a little bit too close to the area of high pressure, those pressure gradients tight spend that's how we get the wind. at 2:00, 43 miles per hour gusts at point reyes. look at oakland and san jose. about 25 miles per hour wind gusts. by 5:00 we are 50 miles an hour at the coast. it keeps going all night long. possibility maybe a few power outages. look how quickly that system pushes out. left with breezy winds, partly cloudy skies and a decent day today, although it will be on the cool side.
