broadcast center, this is abc7 news. >> now at 11:00, a super bowl team player has been caught up in a prostitution sting. it all happened at a south bay motel. tonight one of the denver broncos is being sent back to colorado. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm ama daetz. >> i'm dan ashley. authorities questioned ryan murphy at a san jose motel 6. murphy is a member of the practice squad and a graduate of oakland technical high school. >> and now lisa amin gulezian has our story. >> police tracked the woman from the motel 6 to a car that was waiting in this parking lot. they questioned two people and did not cite ryan murphy. it was part of a prostitution sting focusing on this motel 6. when members of the human

trafficking task force followed one woman to an awaiting car they moved in. >> there is a whole bunch of them congregated over here. and then within maybe 20 minutes to half an hour all of a sudden we had black vans and people in suits. >> the gas station employee saw it all. he says police surrounded the ford fusion. a source tells abc7 news that seated inside was the denver broncos practice squad safety ryan murphy and his brother. murphy was questioned and released. the woman was cited for prostitution and the brother was cited for trafficking. >> are you related to ryan murphy. >> though murphy left the scene this man stayed with the car. he claims he and murphy are related and are both from oakland. murphy arrived with the team on sunday and because of tonight's incident has been sent home. broncos' head coach gary kuebiak said although murphy was not cited we decided it was best for the team if we

continued our preparation for super bowl 50 without him. ryan is returning to denver, but his status as a practice player has not changed. fans say it is disappointing. >> it is not the best thing for this stuff to be happening. >> several prostitution stings have taken place. 10 men have been cited. in san jose, lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. now to breaking news out of san leandro tonight. the southbound lanes of 880 just reopened after being shutdown for hours because of a deadly crash involving several vehicles. it happened north of washington avenue about two and a half hours ago. officers had to cut one person out of the vehicle. they haven't said how many others were injured. stay with abc7 news for breaking updates and follow us on twitter at abc7 news bay area. new at 11:00, the driver

involved in an accident that sent a bicyclist to the hospital is under arrest under suspicion of drunk driving. sky 7hd was there where they closed off the street for the investigation. the female cyclist was dragged by the vehicle. she was pinned underneath. right now the cyclist is in critical condition. >> police identified a man accused of stabbing a chp officer in the neck. he was at fourth and brennin at 10:30 this morning when officers arrested him. the stabbing happened about an hour earlier when the officer confronted a man near a homeless encampment at i-80 and essex street. he underwent surgery for life-threatening injuries. he is listed at stable. he was booked on suspicion of attempted murder,ing aggravated murder and resisting arrest. stay with abc7 news. coming up in less than 10 minutes, the eye team's dan noyes will tell you about the pressure the super bowl is putting on the homeless in san francisco. in san jose, neighbors

fear more tree will fall at a park where a tree crushed a man to death. an arborist arrived to examine the fallen tree and assess others still standing. a large tree came crashing down here yesterday who neighbors say visited the park for years to pick lemon grass. >> they are confirming the two undergraduate students have bacterial meningitis. both are in the hospital. the health department is trying to identify the students at increased risks and vaccinate students this week. meningitis is spread through saliva and symptoms are similar to the flu. university officials will hold a news conference on this tomorrow. we will bring you more information as soon as we get. it. >> three children have saved a school in the north bay from closing. union school in petaluma has six students putting them one child short of the daily attendance required by the state. the one-room school covers grades two through five. a desperate plea was made for

more students and three more just enrolled saving the day. they are working on fundraising to put it on solid financial ground. >> the countdown is on for the biggest sporting event in the world. >> of course it is the super bowl. as more and more converge on the city rivals are doing trash talking. >> cornell? >> yeah, ama and dan. definitely a rivalry in the air. it is a friendly rivalry. two teams and one amazing host city. san francisco city hall is is dressed in gold as super bowl sunday approaches. fans are gearing up and celebrating everything football. >> all of these football fans lined up at the nfl experience for an autograph with players including bowman with the 49ers. this signature made 12-year-old michael's day.

country and all of the bay area, this is abc7 news. >> the super bowl and steady rains have put increased pressure on thousands of homeless people in san francisco. >> police are using a tactic that will keep them on the streets long after the game is over. >> dan noyes is here with an eye team investigation. >> dan and ama, city officials insist they are not trying to hide their homeless during the super bowl. but we have seen them clearing streets again and again. the police sweep begins well before dawn. >> when the time comes and you have to move -- >> homeless people who found shelter from the rains under san francisco's 101 freeway need to find a new spot. >> san francisco and police workers have been clearing camps from the areas like this

freeway on-ramp that heads south to the super bowl. streets that look like this now look like this. >> i can't move people. >> can i gather your stuff and throw it into a cart if you were lucky enough to throw it into a cart? >> kathy used to own a three-bedroom home, but divorce landed her on the streets. >> we wanted to ask in light of the game. we met on super bowl city. >> is there a special push? >> no this is a city of a lot of tolerance. but we do want to get people off the streets. i mean that is our ultimate and day-to-day goal. >> but homeless advocates say it is having the opposite affect. he got a hundred dollar citation. >> he wrote it up for me

because i was here on the sidewalk. >> he doesn't know how he'll pay. >> kelly cutler has been doing homeless out reach for 15 years. >> we are always encountering people with citations. >> i got about 15 tickets. they give me the tickets. >> according to the homeless coalition, citations are up 20% over last year. >> what happens is they can't pay them. they go to warrant if they are on the housing wait list they lose their place on the wait list. >> it keeps them homeless. >> and then you can't get back on the wait list. >> if they don't pay the citations they face higher fines or jail times. they say the citations and the sweeps are ways of keeping homeless people on the run. >> you decide you still want to be on the streets we will ask you that this area has to be used for our super bowl facilities so we can make the money for the general fund and provide the services we pay

rip currents. if you are from out of town you might not know this, but the waves can catch you off guard. keep that in mind. if you are going to the coast, the temperatures right now are getting chilly. upper 30s. napa and fairfield. we have plenty of 40s around the bay and around the coast as well. a live look from the abc7 news exploratorium camera, pier15, look at this view of super bowl city. here is a look at the light showers coming your way tomorrow afternoon. a few wet spots and then a warming trend this upcoming weekend. storm impact scale ranks the incoming storms. all winter we have been doing that. one is light and five is severe. most of the storms this winter have been one's and two's. the one coming in tomorrow is a one. less than a quarter inch for most areas and high surf by evening. those will be your main impacts. as you look at the time line here cloud cover is thick.

this system has slowed down. by 2:00 p.m. it starts to slide into the north bay and by 3:00 p.m. it is reaching san francisco. parts of the east bay. we will start to see wet roadways heading toward the santa cruz mountains. your evening rush may be at a crowell -- may be at a crawl considering 6:00 tomorrow evening your hour by hour forecast is showing you the showers and then by 9:00 p.m. an actual reduction in the coverage. then thursday morning you will see some wet spots for that commute as well then it winds down. we will take anything we can a few hundreds of an inch in the north bay. if you are going tomorrow, the first part is -- okay it will be cloudy and low 50s. then you notice the rain chance enters at 2:00 p.m. and it will not only be cool, but wet as well for the evening

hours. so if you are coming into san francisco keep in mind you will need a rain coat and umbrella to enjoy the festivities. the chill will be in the air, midto upper 30s for the coldest inland valleys. your kids will need a jacket or sweater. in the bay low to mid40s and then we head toward the afternoon hours and it is going to be slick in the north bay and eventually in the south bay as well. most areas in the low to upper 50s. by super bowl sunday it is super warm and sunny at levi stadium. low 70s in the upper 50s. accu-weather seven-day forecast. on our storm impact scale we have a one into thursday morning's system. dryer, warmer beginning on friday. the weekend is warm. super bowl sunday, we have low 70s there. and even mid70s by early next week. spring-like ama and dan. and it is right in time for super bowl sunday. >> thank you, sandhya. >> still ahead on abc7 news at 11:00, giving back in time for

super bowl 50 resulted in six hours. they rolled up their sleeves to build the play area in in south san jose. >> they have joined in the effort. children living in the complex helped design the playground. >> it should be completely finished next week and everyone connected with it say the day went wonderfully. we went this in oakland and had a terrific time. wonderful. on to sports. >> we are loaded with quarterbacks in our super bowl coverage. we have cam and peyton and the hall of famer steve young on colin kaepernick.
