>> reporter: sit the place to be and very crowded here. a lot of these fans have just arrived in town from elsewhere in time for an abbreviated super bowl week. that's the greeting that football fans got as they picked up their wbags, as super bowl city was the first stop on the agenda for these fans. >> we're staying in downtown san francisco, planning to get down to super bowl city, the nfl experience. >> reporter: but make no mistake, the focus was clearly on the big game. >> i'm so excited to be here in san francisco. charlotte is so excited that we're here at the super bowl. >> now we're at here going to see the second super bowl the panthers have been in and bringing home the victory. >> reporter: this fan says not so fast, she has a special reason believing denver will win. >> you want the truth? it's about to be my 50th birthday, so super bowl 50, i'm

see people practicing right now. we just learned something this afternoon, dan. >> that's right. not so top secret anymore. bruno mars will join the headliner cold play with the previously announced beyonce. of course, as you look live here, as they practice, it's going to be a huge event as super bowl half time has become. >> definitely some hints of surprise musical guests from the bay area. we don't know who they will be, but it's a lot of excitement. >> roughly 500 volunteers are part of this effort, who will now be paid by the nfl. they'll help move the stage, they only have a few moments to do that. so they're part of this rehearsal process, as well. the nfl is all about merchandising. check out the nfl shop at the center.

>> as much as we need to go back to our families and bring us some good paraphernalia. >> i'm holds about $600 in my hand. i haven't checked out yet. >> lots of items, including special artwork. the shop will stay open until one hour before gametime sunday. super bowl city may be behind us, but the east bay will not be left out of all the super bowl either. >> celebrations there include the opening of a new store in oakland, featuring a hometown hero. >> laura anthony is live on broadway where you found a lot of seattle seahawks fans today. >> that's right, dan. the party has made its way here to oakland. there is a concert here tonight as the paramount theater. and earlier today just up the broad on broadway, a store opening featuring an nfl star from right here in oakland.

it's no coincidence that the opening of marshawn lynch's first beast mode brick and mortar store comes on super bowl weekend in he is hometown of oakland. and he was mobbed as people warranted to get close to the nfl star and pick up his signature clothing. >> we're here to see the opening of the store of one of the greatest football players in history. >> reporter: lynch himself didn't have much to say. but his mother did. >> he's just like a big, giant teddy bear. >> reporter: especially her son's commitment to give some of the proceeds to charity. >> just really a positive thing for oakland. this is what we need, all of our stores are closing. but to have marshawn come back, open up a store in the heart of downtown oakland is amazing.

>> reporter: rehearsals were under way for tonight's super bowl gospel celebration. the event brings together nfl stars with christian and contemporary gospel musicians, again, with some of the proceeds going to charity. in oakland, laura anthony, "abc7 news." for everything you need to know about super bowl events, traffic alerts and more, down lode the "abc7 news" app and enable push alerts to get updates. now some breaking news in taiwan where a race to save lives is under way following an earthquake that caused at least four buildings to collapse just a few hours ago. you can see on this map here that we'll show you, the 6.4 earthquake hit southern taiwan. today's quake struck just after 12:00 noon our time. so far rescuers have pulled 123 people from rubble like you see in these images which have been broadcast on taiwanese television.

hundreds more might be trapped. several after shocks have followed the quake. experts believe this will not trigger a tsunami. back tier, a woman in fairfield who was attacked and robbed in a parking lot died of her injuries. it happened wednesday afternoon. the victim has been identified as 63-year-old cheryl ann sherwood. she was hit this the head with a baseball bat as she walked to her car. officers arrested this man, williams david king after the attack. they say he also attacked a woman with a hammer on tuesday. there's now a $10,000 reward to catch the man who shot and killed a b.a.r.t. passenger on january 9 on a train at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. security photos show the suspect, but there is no video of the incident, because many cameras are decoys, they do not work. riders and lawmakers were outraged and now b.a.r.t. has begun installing cameras on all train cars.

the work will cost more than $1.4 million. in san francisco, a solution appears to have become a problem. wayne freedman tweeted out this picture of it. it's an outdoor toilet. it's part of recent renovations. there is now a lawsuit over this concept of relief. >> reporter: it appears to be a triumph of function over form. >> i can't believe it is one. >> reporter: it is one. >> you're saying this was once a urinal. >> reporter: no, it is now. lit be. >> how? >> reporter: that is a question at 20th and church, where today the city's newest and most controversial urinal came under scrutiny and fire. >> words have meaning. this is not a urinal. >> reporter: what is it? >> it's a hole directly to the sewer. >> reporter: today, attorney kevin schneider filed suit,

held their final practice before sunday. roger goodell held his annual super bowl press conference. among the topics, the first question was asked about the raiders and the chargers in their stadium situation. the commissioner assured the nfl is going to support oakland in hopes of keeping the raiders in the bay area. he also officially announced that the raiders and the texan also play a regular season game in november in mexico city. we're going to find out tomorrow if greg kenny stabeler will be inconducted into the hall of fame. he was revealed that he had the brain condition cte. we talked with one of his daughters today. she told us what her father shared with her about his symptoms. >> he shared recently that he was having headaches, issues sleeping, buzzing in the ear, and there was one instance where

he had issues knowing what to do at a stop sign. >> he was nicknamed the snake, the nfl mvp in 1974 and went to the super bowl and won in 1977. one more note. talk about a hall of fame quarterback joe namuth he's going to denate his brain for research when he dies. back to you. >> we're going the move on to other news now. twitter is using new technology to found accounts supporting terrorism. the company said it has suspended more than 125,000 accounts since the middle of last june. the people that are promoting terrorist acts mainly related to the islamic state group. in a blog post, it says we

condemn the use of twitter terrorism. linked in dropped more than 43% today after a revenue forecast came in well short of expectations. several brokerages downgraded the stock from buy to hold. linked in lost $11 billion in market value. the nasdaq nosedived today, falling 3%. the freefall came after the government announced 151,000 new jobs were created, about 40,000 lower than expected. here are the bay area companies that took a big hit. in pa sfka, another sinkhole

popped up. today, the city manager says everything west of highway 1 could be at risk. people who live in pacifica are feeling very nervous. amy hollyfield is on the story. >> reporter: the sea wall is taking a beating this winter, with waves that surprises even long-time residents. >> in the eight to nine years that we've been here, these are some of the largest waves we've seen break over the sea wall. >> reporter: and the steady barrage of waves, the second sinkhole in thee weeks broke open yesterday on the sea wall outside of terry jackson's apartment, where she's dealing with her own problems. her landscaped yard was wiped out by waves. >> we enjoyed many a fire pit night out there, but it's now just broken pieces of lumber. >> reporter: the city has asked

the state for emergency money, but monday will now ask the city council for emergency funds, as well. >> the city will have to spend some of their own money. >> reporter: engineers are working on a plan for the first sinkhole, but pacifica also needs to look at the big picture. she estimates that everything west of highway 1 is at risk. >> more than half of our businesses are located here. all of our hotels is located here, and about 5,000 people live in that coastal zone. so we need a longer term plan. >> reporter: a section of beach boulevard is closed, with the city manager saying these roads could soon be at risk if this continues. amy hollyfield, "abc7 news." taking a look around us, it's gorgeous right now, warmer, too. >> meteorologist sandhya patel is here with a spectacular super

super bowl sunday forecast. >> it's going to be super duper good. beautiful behind you with bright skies. we are seeing a few high clouds passing through, but that's what is giving us the beautiful hues here, as the sun is getting ready to set. upper 50s in oakland. downtown oakland made it to 70 today. san jose, 61. and is this stunning or what? as we look across the bay, here is a look at your temperatures. 61 in santa rosa. upper 50s in napa. and i'm going to step aside so you can see part of super bowl city. from pier 15, a sea of blue there, springlike for super bowl sunday. let's look at the forecast for tomorrow. if you are going, it is going to be spectacular. 58 degrees, high clouds continue

to stream in. low 60s by 2:00 p.m. at levi stadium, it is going to be a warm, sunny one. the forecast still holds for the big game. 73 degrees, dropping to 57. so just make sure you have your sun screen. uv index will be moderate to high. and around this time of the year you can burn here in the bay area. the week ahead for san jose, as you take a look at the temperature trend, 69 tomorrow. temperatures will continue to come up for super bowl sunday. records are likely. mid 70s next week, and the average high really is 61 degrees. so we'll hover well above average for the next seven days. here are the records for san francisco, oakland, and san jose airport. mid to upper 70s. some of these areas will be getting close as we head towards monday and even tuesday. low to upper 70s in some areas.
