>> now at 11:00, a rough ocean attempt. a coast guard and surfer and good samaritan tried to save a couple, but tonight we learned one person has died. good evening. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm ama daetz. it happened south of the pacifica municipal pier. >> cornell bernard is live with late details about what happened. cornell? >> reporter: dan and ama, the man who died is 60-year-old larry moore of pacifica. they say he was trying to rescue his wife who was swept into the water by a ?ieker wave. there are rn whatting signs -- there are warning signs everywhere and good samaritans jumped in to help. >> one word i heard was help. >> reporter: trevor griffith was watching the waves when he heard a woman cry for help. she was in the water struggling to stay afloat. >> i grabbed her and helped her get up the beach, but we

were sucked back in and thrown over. >> reporter: he finally got her to safety jie. she said she was walking and was swept out and her husband tried to go in after her. >> reporter: but the man was swept out by the strong rip current. >> the wave kept taking him back in. >> reporter: firefighters searched for the man from the beach. a coast guard chopper called in to scan the shore until the man is spotted. >> they were able to lower a rescue swimmer from the helicopter into the water and grab hold of the victim. >> reporter: both victims taken to the hospital. >> we had a lot of people pass away here unform natalie. >> reporter: warning signs everywhere about the surf danger. he demonstrated how easy it is to get slammed down by the crashing waves. >> when the water drains off the beach it trips you up and sucks you into the underwater hole. >> reporter: swimmers, surfers and beachgoers, beware. abc7 news. >> because of the monstrous
