i've never actually felt so much love in my life. >> an outpouring of love for family mourning the loss of a husband, father, and police officer, known for helping others. hello, i'm eric thomas. people filled the vallejo church in honor of this man, gus vegas, police officer killed inside his home. a whole lot of community support for the family? >> reporter: officer investigate gas was a long-time member of this church in vallejo and i got a chan to speak with his wife. she wants to thank everybody for their support during this difficult time. a funeral has been scheduled for

friday. just last sunday, richmond police officer gus vegas was sitting in the front row at his church, the hill in vallejo. today, an overflow crowd honors him. >> for the pastor, the lost is personal. he has been friends with the family more than 25 years. >> my family, his family, we raised our kids together. we've gone on vacation together. i don't think we have words to be able to describe the shock and just how deep the hurt is. >> reporter: officer vegas was shot and killed at his home on thursday. friends say he dedicated his life to his police work, protecting others, but he was also so much more than that. he and his wife, sandra, were foster parents. vegas was slurp loved and respects and leaves hip ten --

behind ten kids. >> it's important to support sandra and the family. >> reporter: vegas' wife says they're tremendously thankful for the outpouring of support. >> i miss my husband and i love him, and he will be missed. he was a great, great, great, great police officer. >> reporter: a memorial service is planned for friday. the police officers union has set up a fund to help with the costs at the mechanics bank in vallejo, as soon as abc7~news. >> san jose police find a man dead inside a car near pioneer high school. we were at the scene as officers investigated. they say the car crashed into a pole and the driver had been shot. he was discovered just before 4:00 a.m. the case is being investigated as a homicide as police try to identify a suspect. two people died in a traffic collision on highway 1 near bow bodega bait 1:00 this morning. a car was spreading when it

crashed into a tree and burst in flames, this crash killed a man and his passenger is expected to be okay. the car's roof was crumbled by the impact. police say both people inside the carr from san francisco. the crash happened at 1:00 this morning. flames burned 16 people out of their home in san francisco. abc7~news was in the north panhandle neighborhood as crews bordered up shattered winds. young see the scorched destroy of the building. the assistant fire chief says muni and power lines in the area contributed to difficulty in fighting the fire. a child was hurt, suffering a cut from black, david robinson took this video as flames damaged two building. neighbors were concerned the fire could spread. >> i only see flames between

houses on the roof. it was pretty scary. i was about four doors down. i was hoping the fire didn't spread. >> the fire was first reported 8:30 last night and took crews an hour to contain it. fremont police are investigating after someone shot a crossbow at a truck. the driver was heading to work on milmont drive when he heard something hit the truck. he discovered a crossbow arrow sticking out of the vehicle. it happened just after 2:00 p.m. on wednesday. police say there were no witnesses and there are no suspects at this time. no autopsy will be performed on supreme court justice antonin schoolie. officials tell abc news the daye the cause was natural and the 79-year-old died of a heart attack. people have been leaving flower out the supreme court in his memory. lawmakers are already arguing over who should name his

francis' mass in mexico. the traveled to one of the poorest and most dangerous parts of the country, condemning the drug trade's, quote, dealers of death. love is in the air this valentine's day. abc7 news was in san francisco's castro district where a special proposal happened at this mural on 18th street at the casa indian eatery. the mural features who men. one who helped plan the artwork, wanted to surprise his partner with a proposal. the artist says the mural has an important message about race and same-sex marriage. >> it's covering different type of prejudice as well. it's like putting it out there and being, like, love is love. it's basically that to me as long as that message was in there love conquers anything. >> george said yes and the couple celebrated with friends.

take a look at this video from new zealand, showing a cliff crashing down into the sea following a 5.7 magnitude earthquake. the epicenter was a little more than ten miles east of christ church, a driveway security camera captured some of the shaking. the earthquake comes five years after one that destroyed much of the city, killing 185 people. so far there have been no reports of serious damage or injuries from the quake. to developing news. much of the northeastern u.s. woke up to record cold today, and they're now bracing for snow tomorrow. the national weather service says the temperature new york's central park on sunday was minus

a world war ii vet as has reunited with his long lost love after 70 year, norwood thomas and joyce morris met in 1944. she was 17 years old, living in london, he was a 21-year-old paratroop are for the u.s. army. their brief romance end when thomas went to normandy. after the war he returned to the u.s. and invited morris to join him but there was misunderstanding and both went their separate ways. last year his son found morris online and they reconnected on skype. >> what would you if i could give you a squeeze?

>> it would be lovely. >> a crowd funding campaign raised money to fly thomas from virginia to australia. they're together in time for the day, valentine's day. in the spirit of valentine's day, a high school senior in utah brought a smile to every girl's face in his school by buying each of them flowers, all 800 of them. he works as a grocery store and saved money to buy the flower. he asked for permission from the school's principal to deliver them. >> around 800 flours out there. i don't think a girl should be left out on valentine's day. >> the flowers cost $500. hayden started the tradition his freshman year and says he's not doing it to get dates. he already has a girlfriend. she says the thinks his valentine's tradition is sweet. in or of black history month we're using our bay area instagram feed to celebrate the people making a difference where

dipping their toes in the chilly ocean water, but the evening ahead, a nice night on the way. high clouds and temperatures are going to be very slow to fall overnight. by 11:00, lot of spots are still hovering in 50s and in fact that's where a lot of places are going to bottom out overnight. overnight lows at 55 in san francisco, 50, san jose, drop to 53 in oakland 50, napa, 47 in antioch. such a mild morning on the way, that's going to help to excel temperatures above records. 80 in fairfield, high of 74 in downtown san francisco. so records for monday, napa, forecasted high of 80, one degree shy of the record of 81. san francisco, oakland, and san jose, very close to record territory but just shy by one or two degrees, and looks like livermore is a forecasted high of 77, will tie the record set last year. records are lower on tuesday.
