complex and residents will decide how to secure their community after two seniors were assaulted. >> it's a story you'll see only on abc7 news. >> reporter: it is a dilemma. residents are willing to shell out $50,000 to install a gate but the city won't allow it, even in the wake of a growing crime problem, including the beating of a senior and threats of violence. this 70-year-old is adamant that mansion park needs an electric gate. super bowl weekend he was attacked by three young men that knocked him down and punched his face. it happened in the park outside of the community. the assailants threatened to return and injure others. >> it could control the entrance for people going in and out. you know? but only people that have a right to be here.

>> reporter: there have been burglaries stolen cars and mail theft, however the planning department says gates are not allowed under a general plan approved in 2011. the idea is to make neighborhoods open and accessible. >> to have someone just be able to randomly walk into my garage and steal things is apalling and frustrating and there has been no follow up on it in two and a half months. >> reporter: gates do exist in other neighborhoods installed before the change. originally it cited traffic, not crime concerns. >> we'll take a look at the individual neighborhoods and balance it against the connectivity issue. this may be a reason to consider gates or other means of preventing crime. >> reporter: in san jose david louie, abc7 news. the bay area is drying out

after the first significant rainfall we have seen in weeks. the storm brought rain, strong winds and thunder and lightning. laura? >> reporter: experts predicted this might happen. a lot of tree failures and now, mix in high winds and heavy rain. the first storm in two weeks put on quite a show around the bay area between the hail and the thunder and lightning. but the wind made it's mark leaving downed trees in its wake. in alamo two cars came down and down the road a birch tree fell across the driveway of this home narrowly missing the structure and in the oakland hills, a pine toppled over snapping off power lines and

movies, off duty, carrying my gun. white appeared the firing and won a ruling today and will be signed to administrative duties. the president of the police officers' association says it's our hope that the offensive comments that were at the center of the action are never repeated. >> the man accused of killing two people and wounding a third was in court today. and now new details. >> reporter: richard contraras bail was set at $5 million. we're learning the suspect didn't know the victims and that the shooting was probably fuelled by alcohol, drugs and a lot of disrespect.

richard cotrarases's attorney says there was no link and there could be unresolved identification issues but a source with knowledge of the probe says investigators believe they have a solid case. the prosecutor told the court he has a long history of carrying weapons in his car and committed a felony in each of the last three years, on monday, we spoke to two people at the area where it occurred. >> their suv the gunman car jacked when he made an escape. contraras was injured monday night. we learned costa and torres told investigators they cannot positively identify contraras'

mug shot because it was dark and happened quickly. sources tell us other credible witnesses did point him out as the killer but he is apparently not a validated gang member. >> there is nothing in the complaint alleging any kind of gang enhancement or charge. >> reporter: sources tell us he is known to hang out with gang members in richmond and those sources say he and two others drove up to twin peaks and were drinking and contraras was allegedly high on drugs. words were exchanged with the shooting victims. our sources say he pulled out a gun and shot the three. his two friends quickly drove off, leaving him at the scene. that is why our sources say he had to car jack fresno couple's car, to escape. fbi agents are going through

part of a racketeering investigation into chinatown crime boss raymond shrimp boy chow convicted last month. prosecutors say yee resorted to corruption to try to pay off a debt for a failed run for mayor in 2011 and 2014 campaign for secretary of state. now, in the attorney memos u.s. prosecutors are asking that yee be sentenced to eight years in prison with three years of release and a fine of $25,000 saying it would serve as a warning to other lawmakers tempted to break the law. but yee's attorneys argue he should get no more than five years and three months saying he was hooked by agents and he needs to care for his wife who is fighting cancer. yee will be sentenced in federal court in u.s. district court in san francisco next wednesday. dan and ama? >> thank you very much. another man picked up in the fbi investigation raymond shrimp boy chow is faces

a cliff in pacifica. sky 7 hd was overhead as crews demolished the building. >> chris nguyen is live now with the details, chris? >> reporter: it was a moment many people didn't want to miss. >> i called my husband, i can see it from the balcony. he goes run down, take pictures of it. >> reporter: neighbors came out to see the demolition of the 330 esplanade apartments. >> look at the ocean. how many times will have you an opportunity to wake up in the morning and have the pacific ocean just crashing at your feet? >> reporter: all that is left are piles of wood, plastic and

appliances. a battle with a building that lost to nature. >> they used to have 30-40 more feet of cliff. every year i've seen it go more and more. >> reporter: the building was red tagged six years ago because of the erosion of the cliffs. but today it was torn down. pacifica city officials say they granted the demolition permit of a raktor cleared the building of asbestos. the work is being paid for by the property owner. however, questions remain about what will happen next to two of the adjacent properties managed by a different owner who recently declared bankruptcy. the city does have approval to take emergency action necessary. 310 esplanade is also teetering on the edge. some are hopeful it won't be another six years. >> i tell my friends we're clinging to the edge of the

and temperatures now in the 50s and there are clouds gathering. light rain for most areas. we do have a high surf advisory through 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, large breakers, and watch out for the big waves. storm coming in is light rain for friday less than a quarter inch and will be breezy in spots. sprinkles around the area and most of the rain holds up. in the north bay, light to moderate. yellow indicating moderate pockets. then that is when the system crosses the central bay. east bay and san francisco and

chou awaiting sentencing after a jury sentenced him last month. and we have a live jail house interview. >> reporter: he agreed to answer all of my questions. this were no ground rules, his lawyer was in the room with us and we spoke uninterrupted for an hour. here is part of the interview. >> it is on record. he took money from an under cover agent. >> i did not take the money. i received the money yes. >> raymond shrimp boy chou faces prison after an investigation that netted 29 people including leland yee. an under cover fbi testified he
