>> good morning, it's oscar sunday, february 28th. i'm cornell barnard in for carolyn tyler. let's start with a quick look at the weather and here's meteorologist lisa argen. good morning >> good morning, to you. hi, everyone. we have all the cloud cover around the bay area and a few returns offshore. there's a weak weather system pushing into extreme northern california, and we are just seeing the clouds. with the clouds this morning it made for a pretty sunrise at about 6:43. right now we are mostly cloudy around the bay. lots of 50s. 54 half moon bay and mountain view with 55 san jose. 56 across the bay in oakland. and for the next couple of hours we will see mostly cloudy skies. the clouds will thin out from time to time. but even with the cloud cover,

we are going to be quite mild with temperatures in the upper 60s to near 70. so we will talk about the rest of the weekend, the week ahead and rain. that's all in a few minutes. cornell. >> thank you so much. we are now just hours away from hollywood's biggest night. you are looking live at the red carpet outside the dolby theater in los angeles. it's been a beehive of activity all weekend and the assignment -- the excitement is growing. matt keller was there and has the story. >> places, everyone. the oscars are almost here. some of the biggest names in the world will be walking down the red carpet, including lady gaga, jennifer lawrence, and best supporting actress nominee rachel mcadams. but it's not just pretend celebrities. a real actor, orlando jones, was here. fans are excited to be star watching. >> it will come like a wave. you have to wait for it. >> our friends from good morning america were on the job going through rehearsals. but it's all fun and game for these san jose residents. their employers sent them to

southern california for an oscar watch party. >> we actually get massages and are getting our hair and makeup done, and then we are going to the viewing party. >> sounds like fun. and i had to ask, who are you wearing? >> nordstrom rack. >> final decorations are being done and flowers arranged inside the theater. although we had to look through glass doors to see what was happening inside, in hollywood it's all about who you know. elizabeth eller and all the people are related or friends with an executive with the academy. and today they get to see the stage before everyone else. >> it's a rehearsal. you know, you are not expecting to see it exactly the way it's going to be, but you get to see all of the moving pieses coming together. >> the bleachers are set up for the fans but hollywood boulevard is blocked off to the public. unless you are seated here, the best view of the red carpet is at home on abc7. in hollywood, matt keller, abc7 news. >> thank you, matt.

police are looking for a driver who shot and killed a man on interstate 80 in richmond early yesterday morning. the shooting happened near hilltop drive. the 40-year-old man in this. -- in this s.u.v. died. his s.u.v. crashed in a ravine after he was shot. another car drove up alongside of him and opened fire. they say this was not a random shooting. the victim was targeted. there have been seven freeway shootings on the east bay since november and that has people on edge. >> seems to be an epidemic right now people think they can pack their guns in their cars and drive by whenever they are unhappy with somebody. >> we are taking to the street. >> the police have few leads. no suspects or a good description of the suspect's car. >> today is the last day of the california democratic convention in san jose. vice president joe biden fired up the room, delivering the keynote address last night. serge year quintana was there

concord checking in at 53 degrees. talk about the cooler start. the air mass has dried out considerably. a weak front moved through friday night so yesterday things really dried out. so the air mass cooled quickly and we woke up to cooler conclusions. anywhere from 2 to 12 degrees cooler earlier in san jose. but still running 6 degrees cooler than yesterday in mountain view. down at the beach in santa cruz. maybe not as warmed to due to the cloud cover. so with the clouds this morning we will mix them out a bit this afternoon. more mild temperatures not only today but tomorrow. high pressure continues to build in. it's going to be much, much warmer. maybe even 8 degrees warmer in some spots. so stay wide. you are noticing it is dry. maybe extreme northwest california getting a sprinkle. otherwise 70s fresno. warmer in southern california today. we are going to talk about not only the warm weather, but

almost like summertime temperatures in the upper 70s by 2:00 for the oscars, and really staying in the 70s by 4:00 p.m. going from the dry to the wet, here's what's happening on wednesday of this week. looks like this system wants to miss us. friday is dry, saturday is dry. look what happens. looks like we want to see more rain, definitely want to see more rain and some forecast models being consistent with this stem. we will have to hope and wait and see. 66 in san mateo, 69 san jose, 65 richmond. the accuweather seven-day forecast, morgan hill, fairfield, maybe a 70 today. warmer and sunnier tomorrow. a few extra clouds on tuesday. mild wednesday and a slight chance on thursday, and then the new element in the 7-day is another number 1 on our storm impact scale could visit us next weekend. >> and sunny and warm for the oscars in hollywood, right? >> of course.

a couple clouds from there but lisa argen said it will all work out. she'll have your forecast coming up in a few minutes. a polar bear at the zoo felt right at home in san francisco this weekend. san francisco zoo shared this video from international bowl lar bear day. it's ooloo, the oldest polar bear in captivity, enjoying her snow making machine yesterday. it made 10-ton of snow for her. she was rescued back in 1985. the goal of polar bear day is to bring awareness to global warning and the impact on arctic animals. that looks cool there. >> he liked that. >> yeah, but looked like it didn't last very long. we are taking you to the sierra nevada where it's 34 in truck tee, 33 at the tahoe valley airport. going for a high of 57 today. we are averaging around 90% of

you can see how gray it is here in the city. we wish we could have a storm system really clean out the atmosphere. today is not the day, though. 52 by the delta, 53 concord. upper 40s from santa rosa. 50 napa and novato, as well as livermore. so we are looking at some more clouds around for today. a little more than yesterday. we will call it partly to mostly cloudy. then that mix of sun and clouds allowing for just enough sun to allow temperatures once again to flirt with the upper 60s to near 70. so you think it's mild today, a ridge of high pressure continues to build in. it's going to get even warmer tomorrow and sunnier and then it all breaks down and we have the slight chance of rain by the end of the week. after that is when things look very promising. 64 in yosemite. we are looking at just that weak front to the north. 63 in monterey with upper 70s in los angeles. it's going to get warmer there, as well, before the changes encompass the entire state into

next weekend. so for the oscars today we are looking at 77 degrees at 2:00. that's pretty warm. staying in the 70s through 4:00. so really not much like february, but you know february has been pretty atypical, hasn't it? today with a high of 69 in san jose. it's above the average, which is 64. we talked about the ridge building in, keeping it sunnier, drier, warmer tomorrow. and pretty much just as warm tuesday and wednesday in the mid-70s. but we will see the drop on thursday. not necessarily seeing any rain here. things rebound then into 70-degree range. but this is what i want today show you. here's the system on wednesday and thursday. looks like it's going to miss most of us, but we could see maybe a few showers. friday we are dry. saturday we are dry. then not only does it look wet, it looks pretty wet into sunday. this is next weekend. and then we will see as this verifies. but it is looking like most of the forecast models coming into line with that. 67 palo alto, 68 in santa cruz.
