rally today calling for justice for alex nueto. he was shot 14 times in a park in 2014. officers said they believed he was pointing a gun at them. he was actually carrying a taser, which his family says was licensed and needed for his job. the family is suing the city and police for wrongful death. three san francisco sheriff's deputies are being charged tonight, accused of ordering inmates to fight each other against their will. prosecutors say the jailhouse fight club incidents occurred last march. the sheriff says so far she doesn't believe other deputies are involved. >> i will say this, what i saw more of was people not knowing what they were seeing, not understanding what was going on. and i think that to me is what happened. >> one of the deputies facing charges is no long we are the department. the other two are working in position where is they do not have contact with inmates. his appointment was no

surprise today. san jose officially named a new police chief. "abc7 news" was at city hall in san jose today as eddie garcia was sworn in. he took over after the departure of the police chief in january. he thanked his family and made a few jokes directed at his children. >> madison, just so you know, all of this has been a plan to make sure every boy knows what your dad does. >> boys, don't mess with the chief. he started working for the police department in 1992. snow packed by in the sierra and not what the water experts were hoping for, not nearly enough to bail us out of the drought. wayne freedman is live with the tale of the tape. wayne? >> reporter: good afternoon, dan. experts say the water behind me at fulsome lake is higher than

let me show you live doppler 7 hd. snow coming this weekend for the sierra nevada. tracking a few clouds. there were a few sprinkles around the ukiah area, trace amounts. it's a weak system that passed through. but we have another system that is on the way. on our storm impact scale, one is light, five is severe. the one that's coming in tomorrow night going into thursday morning, it's a light system of the quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain expected. as we look at the hour by hour timeline, tomorrow evening just clouds at 5:00 p.m. but notice the rain starts to move in between 7:00 and 11:00 p.m. it's going to be light to moderate rain. there's a stronger storm that's coming. it arrives this wmd. we'll take a look at the details of all of that and what that might bring coming up. dan, krissen? >> sandhya, thank you. we're learning more about a surfer who went missing off the coast. the sheriff's depth thinks the

man is 25-year-old michael dwyer of brisbane. his family reported him missing last night when he didn't return home. investigators say his car was found nearby. >> pg and e crews have just finishing that large pine tree. it took down some power lines and the highway was closed in both directions until a short while ago. the biggest single day of primary voting is well under way on this super tuesday. voters are heading to the polls in 12 states. donald trump and hillary clinton are expected to pick up a large number of delegates. here are some first results. hillary clinton is the winner in georgia, alabama, virginia, and tennessee. but bernie sanders projected to win in vermont. in the gop race, donald trump is projected to take georgia, alabama, massachusetts, and

tennessee. political analyst carla marinucci says tonight could solidify trump's campaign. >> donald trump has had a huge controversy the last couple of days with the klu klux klan issue. but it may not hurt him tonight. if that's the case, he could be unstoppable going forward to the next bunch of primaries on march 15. >> mr. trump was supported by men, voters without college degrees, lower income voters and very conservative voters. a san jose city councilman will challenge two fellow democrats for a congressional seat. he will run for the 17th congressional district seat, held by veteran mike honda. he has spent nine years on the san jose city council and most people expected him to return to his job in the tech industry. but he says voters need an alternative to the others already in the race. congressman mike honda and his perennial rival. san francisco supervisors

are hoping to put pressure on the national parks service to not change its policy. supervisors rallied with dog owners outside of city hall. they're considering a resolution to oppose a plan to limit dog areas in the golden gate national recreation area, which includes ocean beach. some current off-leash areas would be off limits to dogs. >> they've come out and said hey, maybe we're going to have more areas where you have to keep your dogs on leash. that is something that will be acceptable. but they did not do that. >> the national park service says the dog management plan is meant to protect wildlife and make the parks enjoyable for everyone. visitors won't have to pay fees at six locations. money from the county's general fund will be used to cover the lost revenue. officials are increasing

a powerful oscar moment. lady gaga's performance has women revealing their histories of sexual abuse. in the past 48 hours, two women have come forward, actress jamie king and jade roper from "the bachelor." two bay area women shared the stage with lady gaga. laura? >> reporter: students here at uc berkeley have been at the forefront of the fight against sexual assault on college campuses. on oscar night, some of them were center stage with lady gaga. ♪ it was one of the most memorable moments of the oscars, and for many, the most emotional. >> it was very surrooel. >> reporter: and she was there on stage beside lady gaga, with 50 other survivors of sexual assault. >> it was very emotional. we were all holding each other's

new memoir in july on how she adjusted to life after her 18-year captivity. the book is the second memoir she has written. the first book "a stolen life" described her abduction and captivity. in 1991 she was kidnapped from her neighborhood and held in the backyard of her captor's home. she gave birth to two daughters during her captivity. half a dozen bay area newspapers will become just two publications. four east bay papers, including the contra costa times, will become the east bay times. in silicon valley, san jose mercury news will become the america news. a driver hit and killed a mountain lion in sonoma county. these pictures are from the fire department there. here's the strange part. no driver was at the scene, but

live doppler 7 hd showing you clouds and now some sun from our golden gate bridge camera. temperatures have dropped down to the 60s in san francisco, oakland, san jose 68. morgan hill still 70 degrees. half moon bay 61. here's a live look from our lake tahoe camera. they will be seeing snow but not immediately. it's a chance of showers thursday. snow levels high and friday as well. by the weekend, they are looking at snow coming in. temperatures, low to mid 60s. 67 in livermore. and a live look here, it's a beautiful look there. rain arrives wednesday afternoon through thursday morning. wet and windy for your weekend and unsettled pattern next week. the first system coming in tomorrow night through thursday morning will bring generally a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain. a one on our storm impact scale. partly cloudy tomorrow morning.

we head towardsç tomorrow evenig and you notice rain moving in at 8:00 p.m. 10:00 p.m., it starts to slide into the east bay and san francisco. by midnight, it's still across the northern and central portion of the bay area. it will take a while before it reaches the south bay. and the rainfall intensity will lighten as it heads that way. by 4:00 a.m. thursday, you're still looking at some wet roadways for the start of the commute. 5:00 a.m., scattered light to moderate showers. and those showers continue at 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. but very limited in coverage by the afternoon, things wind down, only to get ready for the next system heading into friday. this first one is expected to bring anywhere between a quarter to three quarters of an inch of rain. and here is where the next system comes in. so friday night is when we're expecting showers ahead of the next storm. that rain returns and it really gets going on saturday and sunday. that's when we'll see stronger winds and heavier rainfall.

sunday, we may see some thunder. tomorrow morning, mid 40s to the low 50s. partly cloudy skies to start off. low temperatures in the mid 60s to low 70s. so we'll continue to see those numbers falling a few degrees on wednesday. still going to be mild, and then you look at the accuweather seven-day forecast. on our storm impact scale wednesday night into thursday, we have a one. friday night into saturday a two as it is going to turn wet and windy. sunday is a stormy day. we'll see the potential for thunderstorms, cooler weather, also a two on the storm it fact scale with a chance of showers monday and slight chance tuesday. even beyond the accuweather seven-day forecast, kristen and dan, looks like some juicy storms, perhaps tapping into the pineapple moisture near hawaii. breaking news in the east bay and walnut creek.
