returning to our top story, donald trump and hillary clinton relishing their super tuesday success stories. trump trounced his fellow rivals claiming all but a few victories. ted cruz won a couple of races including his home state of texas. marco rubio picked up minnesota, his first victory, and bernie sanders is still in the running holding off clinton for the win in several states. hillary clinton follows up her big super tuesday wins with a rally and concert here in new york. among those performing katy perry and elton john.

>> clinton's team still sounding cautious despite her victories last night. >> reporter: good morning, reena and kendis. a big win for hillary clinton. she celebrated in miami, florida, not in a super tuesday state. she's clearly looking ahead. her speech to a fired up crowd made little mention of bernie sanders. she focused on the gop, namely donald trump, and took a knock at his campaign slogan, saying we shouldn't make america great again, we should make america whole. >> this country belongs to all of us, not just those at the top. not just to people who look one way, worship one way or even think one way. we have to make america whole. we have to fill in. fill in what's been hollowed out. >> usa!

>> reporter: now despite clinton's leads, sources inside the campaign tell me they're not ready to say the primary is over. they're confident where they stand and they think come mid-march she'll be too far ahead for bernie sanders to have any realistic chance of winning the nomination. bernie sanders is vowing to stay in through the summer. reena and kendis? >> i found it interesting was they were wondering would bernie sanders be able to make up the vote with the black vote. and in the south very important in some of those key states. it turns out hillary clinton won blacks five to one when compared to bernie sanders and hispanics 2-1. >> the other thing that's striking, this is the first time in the primary process that hillary clinton won the white vote, which she had not in the previous races against bernie sanders, so she is really solidifying her situation. >> it's a fun campaign. >> it is. it will be a long one, as well. coming up in our next half hour, finally feeling the weight of gravity. astronaut scott kelly landing back on earth overnight after spending over a year at the

the trump camp tells us they're extremely happy and the things that stood out to them, the number of first time voters and crossover voter who's voted for donald trump on super tuesday. the significance of the fact that he had this at his headquarters in florida cannot be lost on anyone. florida is marco rubio's home state. they vote two weeks from today and right now trump has a commanding lead over marco rubio. trump also referencing his significant ties to the state of florida, the fact he had this event, his campaign headquarters at the mira lago club, which he owns. though this was a big night for donald trump, he's got his sights set on the next couple of weeks. >> hillary clinton was propelled to victory by democrats looking for political experience. >> clinton secured big wins in all the southern states up for grabs and she picked up the lion's share of the delegates over bernie sanders. and chipped away at his support among the younger group, the 30 to 44 age group. clinton looked past sanders to the general election and a likely match-up with donald trump. >> instead of building walls, we're going to break down

barriers and build -- build ladders of opportunity and empowerment. >> and clinton also lashed out at the gop, accusing the party of turning its back on working and middle class americans. >> let's get more insight on this incredible night at the polls from the key state of texas. >> our own abc's marci gonzalez is live for us at this early morning hour in austin, texas. marci, a big night, no doubt, as we mentioned, for hillary clinton in texas as well as other southern states. but this really wasn't a complete slam-dunk. >> reporter: no, it really wasn't. it was a fairly good night for bernie sanders. he won, as expected, in his home state of vermont, and he's also projected to pick up three more wins in oklahoma, colorado, also one other state, sanders points out, though, these are not winner-take-all contests.

so even in the states where he didn't win, he is still going to pick up some delegates. he's moving forward with momentum and also doing really well with fund-raising. in february, he raised about $42 million. that's twice as much as the clinton campaign in january. kendis and reena? >> that's incredible, marci, he has been raising a lot of money. but what is his campaign saying there tonight? >> reporter: they are undeterred by clinton's success last night saying they're moving forward, they're taking this campaign all the way to the convention. >> and talking about hillary clinton once again, i believe she was in florida last night for her victory speech, it is a big day ahead for her. what's next? >> reporter: right. so as you mentioned, she is looking ahead to these next big primaries. she was in florida last night. they have their primary coming up on march 15th. but tomorrow a busy day. she's heading your way with two events in new york city. >> all right. abc's marci gonzalez live for us in austin, texas, at this early morning hour. marci, thank you. some very interesting

findings, by the way, we should point out from the exit polls. a good gauge of how voters are feeling. when asked should the next president come from outside the political establishment, 50% of republicans said yes. only 15% of democrats agree with that. >> and on the flipside, when you ask, should the next president have experience, 81% of the dems in blue there said yes and 39% of republicans in red. they said they want someone with political experience. keep it right here for more super tuesday election coverage and analysis. we'll check in with marco rubio's campaign. that's later this half hour. we're going to move onto the politically charged battle over the supreme court nominee. despite a meeting with the president on tuesday, republican leaders don't appear to have changed their minds. they are standing by their commitment to not consider a new justice until after the election in november. democratic leader harry reid joked that the group spent a lot of time talking about basketball.

and another high-profile showdown, this one between the fbi and apple, playing out during hearings on capitol hill. fbi director james comey and apple clashing over whether the computer giant should comply with the judge's order to hack into one of the san bernardino shooter's iphones. >> the fbi is asking apple to weaken the security of our products. hackers and cybercriminals could use this to wreak havoc on our privacy and personal safety. >> there's already a door on that iphone. essentially we're asking apple take the vicious guard dog away. let us pick the lock. >> the director admitted it was a mistake when the fbi asked the county which owned the phone to reset the password for farook's icloud account. had the password not been reset, the phone may have made a fresh backup available to investigators. the nation's largest electric company says it's coming under increase cyber

returning to our top story, blowout wins for donald trump and hillary clinton. the front-runners swept the south, picking up a big share of delegates. bernie sanders won in four states. ted cruz clinched his home state and oklahoma. and after a week of firing off bruising insults at trump, marco rubio picked up his first victory in minnesota. >> as for marco rubio, he's holding a campaign event today in michigan. rubio and the other republicans are preparing for tomorrow's debate which will take place in detroit. >> the florida senator is expected to continue hammering away at the front-runner donald trump, of course, just as he did last night in miami. abc's linsey davis was there. >> reporter: good morning, reena and kendis. marco rubio manages to get his first win. he's now 1 for 15. but you certainly couldn't tell tonight.

he was energetic. he was upbeat. the crowd equally so. one of the first words out of his mouth, donald trump. he called him a con artist. he said, look, state by state, the polls show that donald trump's numbers are going down and ours are going up. he said, pundits want to call me an underdog. i'll accept that, because we are a country of underdogs and we will win. very optimistic looking forward to the florida primary, which is just two weeks away. 99 delegates at stake. a winner-take-all state. he says i know how to win in florida. interestingly the polls show donald trump is actually favored to win here. reena and kendis? >> that's the striking thing. if he loses on march 15th in florida, many are saying that they don't see how he can have a path to go forward. >> there was actually a very conservative influential group in florida today saying they are

likely going to endorse ted cruz. how much of a blow could that be to his campaign? there are people talking he could be put in for the next race for florida governor possibly. so there's already buzz about that but how long can he stay in? people waiting to find out. >> one of the things rick klein who we're going to have in one of the half hours was mentioning that it really was an awful night for marco rubio. for one thing, in texas, he might not have won a single delegate. the same story possible in tennessee and oklahoma. they're still counting but if he didn't make that 20% threshold, he might not have picked up a single delegate in those states. that's really a big deal. >> exit polls showing what republicans want is someone with a fresh set of eyes, more of an outsider, not a washington insider, someone who's been entrenched in the political system like marco rubio, perhaps. >> in the meantime, i should point out that "the new york daily news," speaking about trump, the headline this morning
