and a latch of light shower activity down through south city and half moon bay. but we head eastward, it's quiet for you in the east bay but that will be changing. you will have light rain and the winds picking up ahead of the system. around watsonville looking at a few showers, gilroy, highway 101 and into the mountains, as well. we widen the view and this is what we are expecting today a couple jet streaks and energy offshore that will not only bring us rain, heavy winds, possible flooding, all come in at the same time this he evening. temperatures in the low 60s right now. 59 mountain view. so we've had the breezy winds and on our storm impact scale, which we rank the storms from a 1 to 5, this is a 3. the third time we've seen a 3 all season long, which indicates anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of rain in the lower elevations, two to four in the hills and gusts to over 50 mills. here's the wind advisory right

craft advisory at harbor. we found some boats were adding extra bumper buoys and ceiling up everything last night. there are massive waves, but the powerful swells continue to erode coastal homes and properties, compromise bid earlier storms this season. >> we've had more rain and wind, higher swells than the past two or three years. and not having access to the crab this year during the winter has definitely compounded that. >> the coast guard and local fire departments are asking all coastal residents to tie anything down that could take off in the wind, including surf boards and kayaks because sometimes if those get dragged out into the ocean, they can

covered in snow in the sierra, too. you are looking at kingville. this weekend the highest elevations could see up to three feet of snow. because of this weekend's storm, san francisco is opening up two emergency pop-up shelters that can hold up to 200 homeless men and women. first shelter is at the county fair building, a hall of flowers on 9th avenue. it is open at noon and cannot hold pets. the second is on grove street and opens at 2:00 p.m. and pets are allowed there. they can provide transportation to those who need a ride there. >> sandbags will be handed out on cesar chavez street today from 8:2. and you can track the weather information and receive push

commission has commented in the media the fight could have been avoided if those particular inmates hadn't been allowed to mingle. the sheriff took offense and made her own statement. >> it's a lie, it's dishonest. >> she wrote her ownler. i was clear in my statement officers that if the officers new if the inmates on 4a didn't get along with each other, then it wouldn't make sense to have them let let out at the same time. sheriff, me think you dost protest too much. sheriff said cordell is wrong. >> we do not separate base on race or ethnicity because it is illegal to do that. >> cardell is asking for an

through the 9:00 hour, hook how the winds crank up on the coast. look at the colors. here's yellow. 30-mile-an-hour winds this afternoon. look at after the front comes through in the evening hours. the winds continue up to 40, 50 miles per hour and quickly after the front pass things begin to pass down. the strongest wind gusts anywhere from 4:00 to 6:00 here in san francisco highlighted in the red. but notice even in the afternoon hours we are still looking at some pretty breezy conditions. we have a flash flood watch for the burn area in lake county. the possibility of debris flows from this evening to tomorrow. 6:00 today notice the showers, by 120:00 in the morning look what happens to the north bay across the bay area. through 11:00 we have moderate rain and then it just continues to pick up. 2:00 ahead of the front, 3:00, 4:00, we have moderate to heavy rain. then look what happens right here as the front comes through. and with this the winds had be

>> we are starting this half-hour with a quick look at the weather and a live look outside at the golden gate bridge where we've seen drizzle falling this morning a powerful el nino storm is expected to arrive in the bay area today, the biggest one of the year so far. here's lisa argen on when we can expect it will arrive. good morning. >> good morning, cornell. we will combine the winds, the very heavy rain, possible flooding. all coming in this afternoon. and then keeping up a really high disengine it pays throughout the evening hours, a well. it will be a lot of rain and a lot of wind. but right now the rain is up in the north bay and really off the coast. just from bodega bay to guerneville we have some light rain. further south, san francisco, maybe a few areas of light rain on and off, as well as south san francisco. we are dry in the east bay and

from monterey to salinas and gilroy, just a little preaccept for you. these two elements are what is going to come together. the jet streak and a vigorous cold front that's going to dump a lot of rain and wind over the bay. upper 50s and low 60s out ahead of the system. this is a three on the storm impact scale. anywhere from 1 to 2 inches of rain lower elevations, 2 to 4 for the hills and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. so we are going to time out the heaviest rain and talk about thunderstorms tomorrow and high snow levels. the snow accumulates in feet. cornell. >> thank you so much. the strong el nino fueled storm arrives in the bay area, boaters are warned about thinking about going into the water. it's not just rain and massive waves, forecasted gale-force winds could be the biggest issue. one boater said how it impacts

light shower activity from san leandro through oakland, down around highway 13, as well. and hayward perhaps picking up a little bit of light precip. further south on and off league showers into cap toll law. we widen the view and this is what we are anticipating tonight. the front and jet stream coming together, bringing some of the strongest winds and heaviest rain we've seen all season long. that's why on the form impact scale we rated this one a three. that means 1 to 2 inches of rain in the lower elevations, 2 to 4 inches, maybe more than that for the hills and wind gusts in excess of 50 miles an hour. right any winds out of the south, anywhere from 5 to 15 miles an hour. 61 san jose. good morning, oakland. 62 for you. 57 half moon bay. you see the clouds from this vantage point here. doesn't look bad in san francisco. things will get worse throughout the day.

59 fairfield, 60 livermore. we will see a couple periods of intense rain across the bay area today. so the strongest storm of the year, moderate rain tomorrow and a possibility of thunderstorms. this takes us through midday monday. the wind gusts you can see as we go through the next couple of hours, these are the gusts. up to 40 miles an hour by noontime. upper 30s around oakland and livermore. but look what happens as the front gets closer. 50 miles per hour wind gusts, the yellows and reds over the bay. with so we are talking about the gusty winds, the very heavy rain with the frontal passage. and then innings this quiet down pretty quickly. right here the wind gusts in san francisco. you see really at a moderate pace right on through 4:00 and increasing from 6:00 to 8:00 with the frontal passage. here's the timing of the rain. you notice we have the lighter rain throughout the 10:00 hour. but after 10:00, from about 11:00 to 2:00, we are looking at

more moderate rain filling in throughout the bay. and here is the front coming in by 5:00, 6:00. marching across the bay and then innings this quickly quiet down and the i understand with will be lightening up as well. a flash flood watch for the burn area of upper lake, clear lake and middle took. this is through 6:00 tomorrow. in terms of rainfall intensity in san francisco, look how it picks up after 2:00. we see another spike at 4:00. here's the front. and then after 8:00 things quiet down. the next system tomorrow night, it's a 2 on the storm impact scale. anywhere from a half to inch and a half of rain. this one will involve the possibility of thunderstorms. you can see some sunshine here during the day, but the main impact cubs gone will be later on sunday, by about 11:00. there's the front. and as we put the rain totals together throughout the next two days, tonight an inch and a half, pretty much for everyone. as we go through monday midday we have three inches from novato, 3 1/2 san carlos.
