>> good morning. i'm chris nguyen, carolyn has the day off. here's a look from the golden gate bridge camera. you can see no cars out on the roadway right now. let's send it over to meteorologist lisa argen. she has a live look at live doppler hd. hi, lisa. >> good morning, chris. we aren't done yet with our storm systems, in fact, we have a vigorous system on the way this evening. right now you see a line of do you know poors off the coast. we go in closer and you see off the coast of san francisco and raining up in marin county, up by point reyes, mavericks, half moon bay looking at wet weather.

the east bay 580 near dublin and livermore showers. further to the south and west, between hollister, and some moisture there. the north bay, a rain-no mix up in lake county. heelsburg and we have this system on the way. we have the possibility of thunderstorms and a wind advisory throughout the day today. so this is round two. we will time it out coming up. chris. >>. >> that. we've seen a number of storm related problems this evening. a big mess in lafayette caused major frustration for residents trying to return to their homes. alyssa harrington is live in lafayette with more. alyssa. >> chris, the powerlines are still in the middle of the street, behind them a tree that

was knocked over during yesterday's powerful storm. police did put out some cones, but other than that there are no crews here to clean up this big mess. here's a look at the scene shortly after this happened. residents climb over tree branches to get back inside their homes. this is in lafayette near quail ridge court. high winds knocked a tree into powerlines around 8:45 last night. there are a lot of homes up here. i checked pg&e's outage maps. about 63 households are still without power. utility crews are supposed to be on the way to restore power. tree also needs to be removed. there's a break in the weather right now, but as you can imagine, today there is going to be a lot of storm cleanup throughout the bay area. live in lafayette, alyssa harrington, abc7 news. >> alyssa, thank you very much. time right now is 5:02. and throughout the bay area

downed trees caused major problems last night. abc7 news reporter alyssa shows us how bad it was in contra costa county. >> a 40-foot eucalyptus tree fell across two lanes of traffic. the driver of the s.u.v. tried to avoid it, but couldn't. >> when they slowed and turned to the left, they hit the tree and were struck from behind by a separate vehicle. >> neither driver was hurt, but the car had a lot of damage. in miranda, the rain and heavy wind brought down this massive tree. it took out powerlines and leaving 80 families in the park. >> jack, this is mimi. i'm out in front. house. >> but they are prepared. they are communicating through walkie-talkies and getting updates from one another. with the tree blocking the only home out of the neighborhood, getting information would otherwise be nearly impossible. >> how does it look to you?

>> well, i haven't been out because the wires were clear across my bushes and my driveway and the firemen were here and they said don't come out of the house. >> we have cameras over the house and the fire going, and we are staying warm. >> pg&e called in extra crews to work on the downed lives. parents figured out a way to manage the unpredictable situation. >> they started parking on the streets and walking through because that's the only way to get out and people are going out and getting their kids and stuff like that. >> homeowners in miranda had their power restored early this morning. in walnut creek, abc7 news. >> take a look at this huge tree that fell in front of the san ramon police department. it happened last night and blocked the entire entryway to the building. you can see crews cutting off some of the branches to help with the removal. several place cars were parked outside. of the building, when it fell, luckily no one was hurt. this map shows dozen of power

outages throughout the bay area. at the height of the storm 53,000 customers were in the dark. right now about 4800 remain without power. the orange dots on your screen show the areas with the most outages. pg&e has more than 200 crews spread out across the region to handle the outages. the city of san francisco is fighting water with more water. yesterday abc 7 news was at mission where the first time they set up the temporary plastic need barriers filled with water. this is an area prone to flooding and the hope is they will protect the buildings. if it works the city could order more for the next storm. bay area coastal communities got rain and gale-force winds. abc7 news reporter sergio quintana has details from half moon bay. >> sheets of rain and wind gusts took down trees in half moon bay. a snapped tension line in one neighborhood and then the winds kicked up even more. up to 48 miles per hour in some

places. it's caused power outages and triggered other emergencies. a large part of the harbor went dark, including an indian restaurant that had to finish the day by nash light. they took shelter at the local seafood house where there was still power. >> i don't like the wind at all. i don't like the wind. in fact, one of our branches broke, which made me sad, we are doing fine. we have done a lot of work on the house the last year to make sure it was safe anyway. >> the two flags blowing in the wind are a couple warnings for boaters. the first is a small craft weather advisory and the second is a gail force wind warning. on the pier a windsock flapped, tarps were snapping, and this man had to lean into the wind to stayup right. along the coast the wind really kicked up around sunset. >> i probably noticed the change around 3:00 or 4:00. traffic was at a crawl at one point in the afternoon.

and shopper's were who will lopped by the wind while they walked out of the summer market. some printed with their umbrellas to keep away the rain. >> el nino storms have eaten away at the cliff side where these apartments are. stiltish you'd an order to tear them down. a different property owner demolished a building next door. the city is taking action on 320 esplanade because the owner of this building has declared bankruptcy and can't afford to tear it down himself. the dep legs is set to start on tuesday. in western sonoma county a large redwood tree destroyed a home, narrowly missing a woman inside. the homeowner was with her two dogs when she saw the tree falling and quickly ran outside. we are told she is staying with friends this morning. here's a live right now at sfo where the rain and winds delayed more than 320 flights and san

killed 780 others yesterday. that were 60 days at the oakland airport and 14at mineta san jose. there could be more problems today so be sure to check with your airline before heading out the door. happening nothing there are chain controls from interstate 80 to 7 miles east of truckee. highway 50 is also affected. you can see why. the caltrans camera from near boreal shows us plenty of snowpack. drivers of taking it slow. here's some footage sent to us yesterday. there was 10 inches of fresh prouder and 20 more seconded overnight. if you see weather happening where you live take a picture and post it on social media and you may see it on our newscast or online. lisa, we've been seeing so many. those pictures. a lot of damage out there. >> and we still have a flash flood watch that's going to go into effect at 2:00 p.m., a wind

>> welcome back. you will see the green indicateth rain right now. lisa is tracking it all and will be here with the full accuweather forecast coming up. police believe a man who attacked and raped a female cal student early yesterday morning may be connected to three other assaults. it happened yet onetna street near dwight way. police said the man grabbed her from behind and took her off the sidewalk where he sexually assaulted her. this picture shows a man wanted for three assaults. he also attacked from behind just like the attacker yesterday morning. >> in san ramon police are investigating a break-in at an islamic center. it happened early yesterday morning. the burglar busted through a glass door using a rock and then stole the donation bins with hundreds of dollars inside.

islamic leaders said they have a good relationship with the community. they hope it's just someone looking for money. >> the rhetoric that's in the media and politics today with the presidential campaigns, yeah, you are definitely concerned. we hope it's nothing more than just some sort of -- some incident of a burglary. >> the building has security video that investigators will take a look at. petaluma police are searching for thieves who busted fluid a gun store's front door. it happened yesterday morning at the independence armory on lakeview street. the owner of the store told the press democrat the police took $12,000 worth of guns, most semiautomatic handguns and a rifle. they are looking for a light green 1990s honda accord. a speeded driver caused a crash in the east bay that tore this car to pieces. abc7 news was there just after noon yesterday when the witnesses say the person lost

control and slammed into several trees. they were the only person inside and died instantly. >> yesterday san jose got a fair share of rain during this storm system. katie shows us that part of the bay area. >> with windshield wipers at full speed, it's still hard to see through the driving rain. we caught up with the driver of this car after the chp escorted him safely off of 680. he spun out, hit another car, and ended up taking the wrong way in the median. >> it was a very scary moment but i had reflexes of my life at one point. >> one of several wrecks up and down the slick roadways of the south bay. >> we got downed trees and downed powerlines and a lot of crashes, a lot of flooding. >> another driver had the misfortune. being on the stevens creek on-ramp as this branch came down crashing from above. >> just goes to show you don't know what you will run into. >> another large branch came down and the sidewalk flooded in

front of valley fair mall. you didn't have to be behind the wheel to be in harm's way a tree fell on their porch, blocking the front door. they called 911. >> they came here moments later and rescued us. >> firefighters cleared the path but someone will have to come out and take away what's left. >> no one was hurt in the car or the house so that's a good reminder to always be careful out there. abc7 news. back to the east bay where high winds knocked over a large tree yesterday afternoon. abc7 news was on meraga tree near lafayette elementary. the tree blocked the road. it took a couple hours for crews to clear it out of the way. take a look at this scene in oakland at coolidge where crews responded to a downed trees. this was one of many in oakland. here's another one.

this one briefly blocked the interstate 580 west ramp at chatum. weather-wise, the impact this is going to be throughout the bay area, what number on the storm impact scale? >> two. we have a two right now. and the timing will be similar to yesterday later on in the everything other. that's when the need advisory goes up, 6:00 tonight. but as we check out the storm impact scale, this is a 2. we rank them from 1 to 5 and a 2 is a moderate storm. we will have later today anywhere from a half-inch to an inch and a half of rain, lightning certainly a possibility in this unstable atmosphere, and winds gusting to 20 and 40 miles per hour. this actually wind profile takes us through monday morning. so your monday morning commute will be quite dicey out there as the system lingers. we are talking about once again rain totals that are going to be on the impressive side. maybe not quite as impressive as the five, six inches from ben

lomen. but we are looking over an inch of rain in some sports. here you see some. the heavier downpours just offshore right now. these are moving from the west to the east. san francisco about to get wet. and over into livermore, 580. good morning in dublin. south of us, san ramon east of livermore and the higher elevations there, and further south we look at a little bit of rain-snow mix in the santa cruz mountains. hollister, you are wet. up to the north bay in marin county you have the showers from here. we are looking at a little bit of snow. so the wind advisory, once again it will be quite gusty. this will arrive anywhere from 4:00 this afternoon to 4:00 tomorrow morning. gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour. once again, we could have some power outages as another vigorous system heads our way.

as we head outside we are in the 50s. it's cooler behind that system. 48 morgan hill, 55 oakland. and the golden gate bridge pretty quiet out there. that's good news. but we could see the downpours at anytime this morning, this afternoon. we get a few peaks of sun this afternoon. 50 livermore. i talk about the unstable air and the strong cold front on the way. so showers, chance of a thunderstorm. flash flooding is possible from 2:00. and 6:00 this average through tomorrow morning. rain lingers into your monday morning commute. with this we do have a high surf advisory until 10:00 on tuesday from sonoma county all the way down to monterey bay. the wave heights tonight are supposed to go up from 17 to 19 feet. we aren't there yet, but dangerous condition there. taking you through the next couple of hours, notice the spotty nature of the showers. that will be the case right on through the morning hours. looks like we have a lull here and there. but not really. the sunshine will work to destabilize the atmosphere.

by 3:00 in the afternoon look at this line of rain. this is the cold front. so 6:00 it's pushing into the north bay. look what happens by 8:00. strong winds and heavy downpours right through 10:00 in san jose. and behind it another wave into your monday morning commute. it's still wet and showery. so the wind gusts, take a look at the colors now. not so much the numbers here, but as we go through the next couple of hours, we have the winds on the coast. but by 5:00, 6:00, with that front, once again, those gusty winds pushing to the south and east, allowing for a pretty wild evening again. rainfall totals through noon tomorrow, anywhere from three quarters of an inch to over an inch in livermore and san jose. winter storm warning taking us through monday afternoon. once again, two to three feet from kirkwood to donner, and temperatures today will be in the low 60s. afternoon showers, possible thunderstorm and the accuweather seven-day forecast a 2 today. showers linger. a 1 tomorrow. our only break looks to be

>> this is abc7 news. >> good morning. thanks for waking up with us. i'm chris nguyen. we are starting this half-hour with a first look at the forecast. here's lisa argen. she's tracking the conditions where you live. good morning, he'sa. >> good morning, chris. we have rain to talk about and the rain had continue to increase later open this afternoon, as well as the wind and a nash need warning. in san francisco you are looking at heavier cells from south city to sack mattio. we will talk about moderate rain for the most part up into marin county. over just reaching el~cerrito and oakland right now. milbrae, 280, san mateo it's wet. and further south just about to pescadero. in the east bay you are quiet. you see some rain moving into

i-80 there and berkeley. so further south notice there's showers offshore, and they are moving directly from the west to the east. highway 101 up through marin wood. and also santa rosa and middletown. this is a 2 on our storm impact scale. this will be moving in later on today with gusty winds, a wind advisory and a flash flood watch. and a winter storm warning through tomorrow w he will time it out in a few minutes. chris. >> lisa, thank you. a woman died after a car she was in drove into a flooded area near olivehurst which is north of sacramento. the woman and the man were in the car. they drove threw a flood area under ab under pass when the car became submerged. the car went around a caltrans truck that was trying to shut down that highway. the water was about 6 to 8 feet deep. >> all the water runs down to the lowest points. the pumps that normally keep is clear are pumping, but the ditch they pump into is full and the

water is coming back over it, right back down on to the highway. >> authorities say the woman was under water for at least 15 minutes. the driver was able to get out of the car. crews pulled him to safety and took him to the hospital. in alamo the wind knocked down powerlines and trapped residents in a neighborhood last night. pg&e crews arrived to secure the power and the energized fences in the front house of a home near danville boulevard. no word of any injuries to anyone in the home. >> be careful if you are planning a trip to the north bay this summer. sonoma county is ground zero for lyme disease that come from a tick. when they bite a person they transmit the bacteria that transmits the lyme disease. there were 41 cases from 2013 to

we are waking up to a live look from our golden gate bridge camera. the roads are slick so be sure to take it easy if you are headed out this morning. lisa will break down the forecast and let us know when the rain will return in a little bit. now uber wants to take you to your favorite ski resort. the ride sharing service has launched a new program called uber ski. it will offer skiers and borders rides in vehicles equipped with ski racks. it will be the same as the regular uber plus a $5 surcharge. the drivers have been trained to load up the equipment without damage. you will see the flags are blowing here but another wind advisory, a flash flood watch, thunderstorms. we have it all going on again today. so we will talk about the timing of it. it lasts through your monday morning and there's more throughout the week ahead. that's coming up. >>. >> that, lisa.

could definitely see flooding problems, and thunderstorms are a possibility, as well. this is getting the week going because there is more to come. in fact, right on through the end of the work week. here's a look at live doppler 7hd. we have been looking a the a line of showers moving over the peninsula and mill valley. right now it's over the heart of the bay. you see the richmond son rafael bill quite wet. we go closer to oakland and emeryville, you see the shower activity around 8830 and alameda up through berkeley. further to the south the line continues all the way down through the santa cruz mountains. that's where we saw some bonus rain yesterday. up to the north bay from san rafael to san quentin, right over into the east bay. hercules looking at wet weather this evening so be careful. up to the north bay it's colder. 2 to 11 degrees colder this morning than yesterday. so we are looking at this cold air in the form of snow in lake

county. so the wind advisory, it gets going later on today from 4:00 in the afternoon through 4:00 monday morning. and the gusts will continue to increase throughout the day. and there's just a narrow time when the cold front marches through when we will see once again the gusty winds. but the heavy downpours could come at anytime with some showers and thunderstorms. 54 half moon bay. san francisco checking in in the hid 50s. cooler behind the vigorous front that left us overnight last night. and temperatures have dropped into the upper 40s for rant rosa napa. 52 concord and a live look from the sutro tower camera. you see the camera shaking. gusty winds toward livermore and mountain view. as the sun comes up and the atmosphere gets a little more unstable we could see a thunderstorm. but there are some out there in the valley this morning. flooding is possible due to yesterday's rain and more to come. we are looking at the rain showers right on through your monday commute.

so the national weather service has issued a flash flood watch from 6:00 tonight until 4:00 tomorrow morning for the entire san francisco bay area. once again here we go again with not only that, but very dangerous conditions along the coast. high surf advisory with the wave heights and the swells coming up upwards of 19 feet. as we go through the morning hours, notice the spotty nature of the showers. some of them coming down pretty good at times. but then a break throughout the morning hours and the afternoon. we will see a few showers in the afternoon but this is the front. it's to the north of us. by dinnertime in the north bay it marches through the bay area into the 8:00 hour, right across the heart of the bay. and then there's another piece of energy throughout the evening hours right on through when you are sleeping into monday morning. so it it will be another wild evening with some gusty winds and right there in the orange you will see the wind gusts from 4:00 in the afternoon to 10:00 at night up to 50 miles per hour in san francisco. rainfall amounts through monday
